《Bonfire of Souls》About the characters - IV

Prince Frederick

The last rival and last obstacle. If I can make people ambivalent about him, unsure whether he is a hero, anti-hero or villain character, then I think that would mean I have portrayed him as I wanted to.

He is a highly idealistic, highly motivated person. It's not so much that he doesn't consider other people's point of view, which would make him a poor leader, it's that he prefers to bend those that he find value into his own worldview as subordinate to his own radical meritocracy ideology. He doesn't love to win, but he cannot tolerate losing, however even when he loses, he doesn't get caught up in hatred or resentment for his opponent, instead working on ways of turning the tables.

He is ruthless and possess both qualities of a wise king, as well as a great tyrant. Although he might be idealistic, he takes a practical approach to things and doesn't mind operating in a good-enough basis rather than seeking the best possible result all the time. He is very egotistical and does not hesitate to trample people who he think aren't worthy of his attention.

He represents the human drive to impose one's will on others, along with taking responsibility for what happens, the ability to sometimes say “Leave it to me!” and shoulder the burden of both success and failure.

Prince Richard

Poor Richard, he ended getting killed off-screen. Maybe if I get an opportunity to show the past I might try to give him some lines?

There isn't much to say about him. If all of the other candidates had something in the way of talent going for them, then Richard would be the average guy. The guy that resents his position and tries to be more than he should and ends up crushed.

Prince Phillip

The other guy who got killed by Frederick off-screen. Although, he has some more character going for him, he also ended up as a foil.

He is that great guy you know, talented, charismatic, deals well with people, yet doesn't take advantage of them. You would love if he had at least some skeleton in his closet so he doesn't get to be mister perfect, but he just doesn't have any. He's that guy that feels comfortable everywhere and makes friends everywhere, from the ballroom of some noble through a rundown revolutionary's hideout to a philosophy conference, he seems to do well with all kinds of people.

Although perhaps he lacked the cunning necessary to not get himself poisoned.

He represents people's nature as social beings, as well as the unfortunate possibility of having that exploited by less than chivalrous people.
