《Blue mage》Chapter 20: The once and future team

Soon after Luke had given his speech and everyone, including Elizabeth, had agreed to join him. What that meant was that Elizabeth was getting a team. At first, she was against it given that every time she had it was garbage and they either died or betrayed her. It should be said that whenever she led, they only betrayed her. But Luke had convinced her that it would be for the best. It was so hard to argue with him.
The next day Elizabeth met her team in the training yard. She was the last one to get there because she was up all night making weapons for her new team. If she was going to do this, she was going to do it right. She walked over to the people gathered where her new team was going to be, and she had to emit she was impressed. Each one of them looked the part of a veteran fighter even though it had only been less than 3 months since they have gotten the system.
As she approached her team a large man started to wave her over, “I’m guessing that you’re our new leader?” He looks her up and down and Elizabeth gets nervous that he was going to say something like ‘You don’t look like much’ or ‘I should be the leader’. Thankfully the man nodded and when she got closer stuck his hand out and smiled, “Glad to be aboard.” Elizabeth was shocked for a second before snapping out of it and shaking his hand. “Glad to be here…” Elizabeth trailed off as she didn’t know his name. “Names Thomas.” The burly man said with a large smile.
Elizabeth immediately felt more at ease after that exchange. Two of the times she had led a team one of the members got offended that she was a woman and/or an Inventor and then convinced the whole team that she was useless, and they should sell her for the extra cash. Thomas just felt like someone who wanted to help people. It was clear that he was trying to help her get a good first impression with everyone else and she appreciated it. She didn’t have much charisma and someone like Thomas could have easily usurped her role as a leader if he tried. He must have a lot of trust in Luke as she hadn’t done anything to deserver that kind of faith.

Elizabeth then looked around at the rest of the team, “Hello my name is Elizabeth,” before she could continue everyone who was a part of her team smiled and said, “Hi Elizabeth.” Before they burst out laughing with one of the archers falling over. Elizabeth’s face grew red as she realized that by showing up late, they had planned this. It wasn’t that bad though as it looked like the team was already bonding.
Shaking her head, she cleared her throat and the laughing stopped and they focused back on her, “If you would like you sound off your names and class that would be amazing if you did.” Thomas had started by saying his class was a fighter along with Rachel and Robert. Then there was Jeremy who was an archer along with Kelly. Lastly was the two mages Michael and Jesse, with Jesse having healing magic.
After they had all greeted each other Elizabeth cleared her throat and gathered their attention. “As a getting to know you gift I brought some of my newer inventions." Elizabeth then pulled off the backpack she was wearing and pulled out a couple of things. The first thing she brought out was two bows that would fire arrows at a much greater velocity, next was a shield that would emit a blast of sound at whatever hit it, two swords that could vibrate the blade to extreme degrees, and lastly to pairs of gloves that worked like a lesser version of her Earthquake boots.
Thomas grabbed the shield while Robert and Rachel grabbed the swords. Kelly and Jeremy grabbed the bows while Jesse and Michael grabbed the Thunder gloves. Elizabeth was pleased with the distribution. After each one of them tested out their new weapons Elizabeth intervened, “Now that you’ve tested out your new weapons, I say we see how we work as a team. With only two captains left I thought It would be nice if we took one out. I’m sure the other squad is thinking the same thing so let’s make sure we get one first.” Elizabeth nodded her head at the end of her little speech. The team looks at her for a second before looking at each other as if judging if this was a good idea. Elizabeth started again. “I know you might think it’s too hard but you are all at least level 21 with the skills to match. We can do it, come on.”

The squad decided that it might be a good idea and got geared up to hunt down a captain. About an hour later they were walking out the front gate of Llyn ready to hunt a captain. They had first split up with a list of camping items and supplies while Elizabeth went to get the location of a captain. She had learned there had been a trace of one about 200 miles out from Llyn from the Rangers, a group of archers who dedicated themselves to the mapping of this new continent and the location of powerful monster to give a heads up to towns they got near too.
After they got far enough from Llyn Kelly directed them towards the captain. With their enhanced speed and stamina, it would only take them about 10 to 12 hours to reach the captain but they wanted to be fresh for the fight so they would stop for the night after 8 hours of running. The next day bright and early the team found the trace of the captain. Kelly picked up on the direction the captain went and with the team followed it.
After about 2 hours they came across the captain lounging around with no minions which was weird, but they weren’t going to let this moment pass. Kelly and Jeremy slipped into the forest around the captain while Thomas, Rachel, and Robert slowly walked towards the captain. Michael and Jesse both kept their distance while Elizabeth didn’t really know what to do. Normally she was a front liner, but it didn’t seem like they needed her. She couldn’t do backline as she didn’t have any long-range attacks and the same with middle range. Shrugging mentally Elizabeth ran and caught up with the frontliners.
The captain, a lean monkey about 10 feet tall, was just lounging around eating peaches. It looked at Elizabeth’s team and just snickered. “What the fuck is that the monkey king” came out of the woods in Jeremy’s voice, “This might be a hard fight, guys. Watch out for it not dying!”
The monkey stood up to its full height and grabbed a staff Elizabeth didn’t see and charged.

Mycology
Declan was but a teenager when he was invited to Gaia. It wasn't some popular VRMMO like the ones his friend keeps recommending, nor was it a 'game' in the traditional sense. Gaia was the stopgap to Indiri, a living breathing world, the final creation of a dead genius. Invited to this world by Eve, the overseer and an AI light-years greater than any that came before her, Declan was given a choice. To join or not to join? Well, why the hell not? Hello, this is a pretty basic VR story which I started writing out of boredom, don't expect anything too great here, it's a somewhat unique setting but with mostly slice of life comedy shenanigans with no real 'plot' since I can't reliably include stakes in a world where respawning is a thing. I'll try to upload at least once every other week but real life stuff may get in the way occasionally. **WARNING** Protagonist comes with an inbuilt wizard hat. Also, any mentions of chapter titles shall be met with falling rocks TPK. **ACTUAL WARNING** Story may or may not read like the fever dream of an eclectic sasquatch with internet connection. Do be warned, that this story has extremely slow pacing by design. Join the Discord!! https://discord.gg/p2gxqs4 Laugh at my empty Patreon!!
