《Saga of the Celestial Warriors - The Journey》EXPLORING THE FOREST OF SHADOWS - PART II

Hilbert, Gödel, and Matilda were exhausted after the battle and had walked for a day and a half without interruption. They made a funeral pyre so that the creatures of chaos could not profane Fenriz's body.

The potions had healed their wounds, but their hearts were broken after the death of their precious ally. Timo was being carried by Matilda, the potions healed his injuries, but his spinal column had been deformed when he fell from the tree. He couldn't walk and was in excruciating agony. Gödel had made a potion with analgesic plants to relieve his pain.

Morgan was flying overhead. They see the lake and Gödel goes to the hiding place opening a secret door, in the shape of a large rounded stone, which led to a hut that was inside a cave.

Inside the hut, Matilda, who had a cloak covering her upper part, slowly placed Eckhart on a bed of straw on the floor and then lay down on the other, which was on the opposite side. Covering herself with the cloak, Matilda turned sideways to the wall and fell asleep immediately.

Gödel lit some special candles around the cabin and then closed that secret door, then he arranged the straw next to him and also fell asleep with tears in his eyes. Hilbert looked at his companions with regret.

Timo was rested, but he was very sedated due to the medication, for he had slept when he was being carried and woke up when he was placed on the straw bed. Hilbert apparently kept himself from sleeping.

“Hilbert,” says Eckhart, his voice weak and sedated. “Get some sleep! I will be watching the door and if something invades this place I will warn you.”

Hilbert nods settle in a corner, and sleeps.

Eckhart tried to move his legs, but they responded very little, and nothing but pain arose with this effort. He decided to turn his attention back to the cabin door and stood there for hours. Timo thought about the battle and also about his fiancée who lived in Whitecastle.

He took his bow in his hands and held it tight as tears began to stream from his eyes. The situation in which he found himself terrified him. He thought he would be a burden on the journey. At that moment, he tried to look for an arrow that might be nearby. He wanted to pierce his chest, but Timo abandoned the idea when he remembered the words Hilbert had spoken to the creature at the clearing "Selfishness would be abandoning the people who need me…" that phrase echoed in his mind like roaring thunder.

'I need to stay strong and watch that damned door!!'

His eyes were heavy and he eventually fell asleep as his tears dried. Everyone was sleeping and the forest outside was calm.

It was already midnight when Gödel was the first to wake up. The ranger didn't feel any evil aura outside, but he decided to patrol the surroundings to be sure there was no sign of any threat whatsoever.

Gödel sat next to the waterfall that faced the lake down the rocks. There was a wall of trees surrounding that place, which was very discreet. In the distance, Gödel could see Hilbert approaching and then sitting next to him.

“Excuse me for those punches, Hilbert. The only one to blame for Fenriz's death is that bastard.” Gödel smiles at his friend and puts a hand on his shoulder.

“Any of the three of us would have done the same thing, don't you think? To sacrifice our own lives in order to save our friends’ asses. But we would have done anything to save Fenriz.” Hilbert smiles and looks at Gödel.

“I'm sure we would!” Gödel smiles back.

“Besides, those punches helped me sleep! It was a sleep without nightmares! I think when I have trouble sleeping again; I will challenge you to a fight without weapons or armor!” Hilbert winks at his friend and slaps him on the back.

“Really? You only fight with this pompous armor. I think that without it you can't take a punch! When we fought, when we were children, you always got screwed!” Gödel starts laughing at Hilbert's face.

“But you always lost in the end, despite being stronger!” Hilbert laughed with a mocking face.

“You played dirty!” Gödel responds with a slightly irritated face.

“That, my friend, is called using your head! I am not to blame if your brain is the size of a chestnut!” says Hilbert, closing his eyes and shrugging.

“Fenriz always interrupted our training. It took him a while to realize that we were training and not fighting!” Gödel looks up to the sky.

“But when we were fighting he came to lick us, it always worked! He was indeed a brother to us.” says Hilbert longingly in his voice and looking at the moons.

“It is true!” Gödel speaks with bright eyes and gazing the moons.

While there, the two heard a noise below and hide to observe the situation.

Hilbert and Gödel were amazed. The look of surprise on their faces was one of total shock when he looked down. They start to whisper.

“By the gods! Hilbert, this is not a normal thing, is it?” Gödel was in shock.

“I've never seen anything this big in my life! I don't think it's normal for humans, maybe for orcs!” Hilbert makes a face of astonishment.

“Is she half-orc?” asks Gödel astonished.

“Don’t be ridiculous. Her skin is white and her face and teeth are very harmonious. Have you seen half-orcs before? ” asks Hilbert, unable to take his eyes from the scene down below.

“Yup. I’m just messing with your smart ass.” Gödel gives a crooked smile.

Matilda was bathing in the waterfall below, she hadn't noticed their presence. Her body was very muscular with all defined muscles, but he was very feminine, with wide hips and a thin waist. The armor she wore concealed all the beauty of his sculptural body.

What was impacting the two inconveniences up there was the size of Matilda's huge breasts. Despite their enormous size, they were upright, firm and beautiful. The girl was bathing in utmost innocence.

“I think we better get out of here or Matilda will squeeze us with those huge… arms!” Gödel looks at Hilbert who was mesmerized. Gödel flicks Hilbert's nose and wakes him up from the shocking view.

“Let's get out of here!” says Hilbert with fear.

The two friends sneak out of that place and leave Matilda alone. Upon reaching the cave entrance, the two friends feel the danger sensation leaving their bodies.

“How does someone approach without drawing attention to your senses? You fool! I've never seen this before!” Hilbert speaks nervously.

“Is it my fault now? I was paying attention to our conversation and she represents no danger to us! I had patrolled the entire area before! You who would be there looking like a depraved shit if I hadn't given you that flick. I really should have punched your face!” Gödel starts to get angry.

“Why didn't you? Charlotte will not forgive me if she knows about that. It would be better to be knocked out by your blow!” Hilbert speaks with dismay and crestfallen.

“We were knocked out for something else for sure. Anyway, I already hit that royal face of yours more than I wanted to. I think I will be satisfied for a year! Hey Hilbert, be quiet; Matilda is approaching us.” Gödel replies, crossing his arms and looking at the lake. Hilbert tries to disguise his reaction too.

Matilda was covered with a sheet she had found in the cabin, and on top, she was wearing Eckhart's cloak. She approaches Hilbert and Gödel were trying to cover up the recklessness and lack of appropriate manners.

“Sorry for my condition, I needed to shower. I think it renewed my spirit.” says the renewed and innocent Matilda.

Gödel and Hilbert were flushed and in a suspicious silence.

“What happened? Why are you acting so weird?” Asks the young woman with an expression of innocence.

“We were arguing about an enemy, weren't we, Gödel?” Hilbert curls his mouth in the hope that his friend will understand the sign.

“I don’t remember this!” Gödel says without understanding the sign and with his hand on his chin.

“The one over there, “huge”, that we found the other day. Don't you remember, you moron?” Hilbert started to sweat cold looking at Gödel and then at Matilda that looked confused.

“Ah, yes I do! But which one?” Gödel was confused and Hilbert wanted to slap his friend's face so bad that he even made a fist.

“I'm going inside the hideout because I need to repair my armor!”

Matilda smiles and then leaves for the hiding place. Hilbert seemed relieved and Gödel was thinking of the enemy Hilbert was talking about.

“Was it the one with the head of a lion that was able to fly?” Gödel looks sleepy and looks at Hilbert who was furious. “Hey, why the angry face?”

Hilbert sighs and speaks calmly;

“Forget it, Gödel! We shall prepare a plan to find these elves.” Hilbert starts scratching his head.

“You mentioned a bottle with a potion before!” Gödel says looking at his friend.

“Now your amazing memory is back!” Said Hilbert in a sarcastic manner. “The problem is that I can't detect magic aura anywhere in this forest.”

“Don’t be such a jerk! I got now what you meant before, but your stupid face distracted me,” says Gödel scanning the horizons. “Beyond this area, there is no more mapping. We need to choose a direction. And Timo is not feeling well. He fell with his back on a sharp rock that deformed his armor and hit his spine. The healing potion might have healed his spine out of place. Don’t you know a spell for healing?” Gödel looked around.

“I do, but the spell I know has less effect than the potion. He needs a physician. I will send Morgan with a message! Although that would raise suspicions and take some time. It would be dangerous to be here for long, but we can't leave him that way!” Hilbert was worried about his friend and was starting to scratch his head again.

“It would be a week if that physician came from Whitecastle on horseback.” Gödel puts his hand on his chin thoughtfully. “Could Morgan carry him?” Gödel asks.

“Yes, but I think it could make his condition worse. I need some time to think. Let's go inside the hideout and discuss this later, Gödel!” says Hilbert entering the hiding place and Gödel follows him.

Inside the hut in the cave, Timo was sleeping and Matilda was wearing the bottom of the armor with the sheet and a mantle covering the top of her unique body. She was trying to fit in the few fragments she had found at the battle site. Then she takes a metallic liquid out of her pouch and starts to stick the pieces together. When the liquid touched the metal it made the pieces come together.

“How does it work, Matilda?” asks Gödel.

“This is a magic potion developed by blacksmith dwarves! It only glues the armor but does not repair it. I would need a forge, a hammer, steel, and a bellows to do this properly. But it would be useless for this set of armor.” Matilda replies, focusing on collecting the pieces of armor.

“Got it. I'm going to catch some fish so we can eat! We haven't eaten in two days.” Gödel grabs a basket and leaves.

Timo awakens from his sleep and watches Matilda repairing his armor and Hilbert sitting in a chair thoughtfully. The young man just looks at the two.

After a while, Gödel returns to the hut saying that he was roasting several fish on branches outside and that he would bring them inside as soon as they were ready and leaves again.

“Hilbert! Who or what is Arkhatov?” Eckhart sadly looked at the prince.

“I know it is my enemy, for some reason. Probably the entity the cultists worship.” Hilbert looked at Timo as if he had awakened from a flood of thoughts.

“That being mentioned that name if I'm not mistaken. So, the cultists are servants of this unknown being?” asks Matilda finishing the armor mosaic.

“Maybe the elves know something more specific,” says Hilbert.

“I can't feel my legs anymore.” says the young man with tears in his eyes.

Matilda is surprised by the sadness and is also saddened by the misfortune.

“I'm going to send Morgan tonight to get a physician! Even if she has to capture someone!” Hilbert looked at the young man smiling, but in fact, tried to disguise the pity he felt. “Matilda will stay with you. Do not worry! After that, I ask you to leave the forest on the same paths. The enemies are after me, you'll be fine!"

“You can count on me! I will wait for the physician with you, Eckhart!” says Matilda smiling.

“I want you to promise me one thing!”

Eckhart looked at the roof of the cabin and wiped away his tears. “Go ahead without me!”

Matilda and Hilbert look at each other with regret.

“Matilda will be good reinforcement. These enemies are very powerful! And Morgan can help you spare your aura. Morgan and Matilda were instrumental in defeating that dreadful creature. If you travel in two, you will be more vulnerable. You need to get to the end of the journey! Do it for me, I need to keep a clear conscience.” Silence took over and Timo breaks it with determination in his stare. “Promise me, please!!”

“I promise!” Says Hilbert after a while staring at his friend.

Matilda was shocked by the answer, did not think that Hilbert would leave one of his companions alone.

“We will leave provisions and water for you for a week and a half, as a guarantee. I will leave firewood and we will build a bathtub for you to bathe. Thank you, Timo! You saved my life that day. If we find the elves earlier and everything goes well, I’ll come back here to see if you’ve improved. We'll be back here to pick you up. Rest now, I'll go outside and tell Gödel to prepare your medication and also see how dinner is going. Rest easy, I owe my life to you!” Hilbert gets up and goes to the door.

“Thank you, Hilbert!” Timo was smiling, his face had changed completely after Hilbert's response.

Hilbert walks out the door and Matilda accompanies him.

Gödel had built a fire outside and several fish were roasting on branches with a potion o smokeless fire set on the ground. It looked like some liquid of high temperature.

“Take dinner to Eckhart and prepare his medication, my friend. I'll take care of roasting the other fish.”

Hilbert speaks these words to Gödel who takes several roasted fish and enters the hiding place. The prince begins to stick the fish in the sticks and puts it around the ground.

“Are you sure this is the right thing to do, Hilbert?” asks the intrigued Matilda.

“It's not right. I would never leave him here alone and injured! But I couldn't break his spirit anymore. Did you see the face he made when I made my promise? He wanted to feel useful, even in that state. If I denied his request I would be denying his willpower. I would be breaking his spirit even more!” Hilbert looked at Matilda's surprised face.

“I understand, I think I would ask the same thing,” Matilda replies with a smile and starts helping Hilbert with the fish.

“So would I!” Hilbert smiles at the strong warrior.

The night remains calm and without signs of enemies.

The four companions were excited, eating roasted fish and counting fables, some funny and some scary.

Timo was in a better mood. After dinner, the companions start making preparations so that the hidden hut is better adapted to the needs of their convalesced companion.

Matilda cuts a thick tree with a stroke of her ax and then cuts a fraction of it, about the size of Timo's body. Then that piece of trunk breaks, in a precise stroke of her axe, in approximately half of its totality. With precise cuts of his sword, Hilbert begins to make the core of the trunk start to be removed.

Hilbert was careful not to leave holes in the wood. Gödel was cleaning up the traces of what was being done, for he wanted to leave the place in disguise. Gradually, everything returned to its normal state. Matilda takes the heavy tub inside and lodges it in the corner opposite to Timo's bed. They fill that bathtub with water from the lake.

Gödel puts herbs and other antiseptic plants in the water. The other part of the trunk was shaped in much the same way. Matilda filled the heavy log, which was now a reservoir of water, and placed it near the door to the cabin. Gödel prepares several vials with medications and candles with a special type of resin.

After a while, Gödel comes back again and again with edible vegetables, fruits, and mushrooms, which he leaves in the baskets that were in the hut. Timo watched that scene with admiration and joy on his face, he was no longer feeling a burden and despite not having helped to make the preparations, his three companions insisted on asking the young man for suggestions.

After everything was done, Timo starts to applaud his teammates.

“You should start a business together! I think you all would be rich! Although Hilbert doesn't have to worry about gold it would work out. At least, until the Queen learns of your embezzlement at the royal treasury!” jokes the smiling Timo who starts laughing with everyone.

“It's true Timo; I think you gave the solution to my financial life!” Says Hilbert with joy in his countenance.

“Hilbert likes stewardship, Timo. He would just watch as Matilda and I do all the hard work.” everyone laughed except for Hilbert, who looked irritably at Gödel.

“If I won a coin for every dumb comment you say, Gödel, I would already be the richest man among all kingdoms.” Says Hilbert. This time everyone laughs except for Gödel that was looking at Hilbert angrily.

“You are like brothers arguing!” Timo was laughing at his companions.

“It is true!” Matilda replies laughing to Timo.

“I will miss you. Take care on your journey, and come back here or else I will not forgive you in the other world!” says Timo smiling and waving.

“We'll be back! May Gaia light our way!” says Hilbert confidently.

“I prepared special candles for the cabin. They stay on for up to two weeks. I also prepared some arrows for you.”

Gödel places the arrows in Eckhart's quiver and leaves them beside his companion.

“You won't have to worry about using them because even the creatures that live in the forest cannot detect this place, but I thought it best to do them. That bastard disappeared with my swords. He must have thrown them out of the forest. Being unarmed does suck.” Gödel sighs despondently.

“Thanks, Gödel! I really feel better knowing that I will not be unarmed,” says Timo.

“It was an honor to be able to fight by your side, Timo Eckhart!” Matilda bows her head. Gödel does the same bow.

“Remember our promise, my friend!” says Hilbert.

“I'll remember. Thank you all!” says Timo sleepily. The medicine was beginning to take effect.

Timo was beginning to fall asleep. Everyone was getting ready to leave. The mosaic that Matilda assembled with the pieces of her shattered armor covered only the front of her chest.

It was enough for her to fight. They leave the cave and Gödel moves the stone to seal it. After that, he puts his finger on the moss on the rock and makes two points.

“This is the signal that my brigade's patrolmen use to inform that there is someone who needs help here in this cabin. This place is visited by other patrolmen, if we do not return in time he may be rescued,” says Gödel.

“Won't that tell the enemies he's in there?” Matilda asks.

“This door contains several signs and you did not notice them, nor do the creatures that inhabit this place perceive this hiding place. Don't worry, Matilda.” Gödel replies.

“The worst part comes now.” Hilbert makes a disgusted face.

Gödel sprinkles a dark liquid from a vial that he took out of his bag, also by the entrance to the hideout. The liquid had a foul essence.

Gödel sprinkles it over his body and then Hilbert and Matilda’s.

“What a horrible smell! What is it?” Matilda asks, covering her nose.

“Ignorance is bliss.” Hilbert answers with his head down.

“Ready! Now we completely camouflage our presence.” Said Gödel and he puts the vial back in his raw leather bag. “We will remain cautious, for I think it would be better to continue west. I go ahead, but not much. Focus on not making too much noise.” Gödel takes his course and then the other two accompany him.

Morgan was flying over the trees slowly. It landed on some branches, always taking care of the rear and sides. The four head west for a few hours as dawn approached, bringing relief to the companions' hearts.

Gödel was cautious using all his senses and Hilbert avoided using Morgan's vision as much as possible. The prince needed to hide his aura as much as he could. He was thinking about the possibility that his tracking, in addition to Napoleon's betrayal, was the fault of the emission of his spiritual energy.

Ahead, Gödel sees in the trees a nest of giant spiders. Morgan steps down next to Hilbert. It was a huge giant spider and a few little ones that were in a thick web. There were several bodies attached to the webs in which they were wrapped.

Despite the distance, the spider did not notice the presence of the patrolmen; Gödel approaches the other two in a whisper.

“Those corpses were taken recently! Watch out how full those cocoons of web are. For the size and shape, I can tell they are of humanoid beings, humans indeed. These spiders are very careful with their web, for they do not leave old bodies trapped. We don't have to worry about those spiders that have already guaranteed their meal, but it shows that we are not alone in the surroundings.” Gödel whispers.

“Probably Arkhatov's lackeys,” whispers Hilbert.

“The web disguises the scent of these damned cultists, but I could see traces of humans and troll footsteps. I think there was a confrontation here. Notice how the trees have broken branches. The larger spider must have taken the opportunity to catch some of those bastards. The Giant Spiders and the Trolls live peacefully together, it is very rare a confrontation between these species. Spiders get too far to bother Trolls that have a very tough hide for spiders to penetrate. The tracks go southwest. I think we better continue heading west.” Gödel lays his head on the floor.

“From the vibrations on earth, I can sense that the battle is still going on, they must be half a mile away. The troll must have surprised them. And by the smell of the salt air that I felt; I think they came from the north by sea.” Gödel gets up again. Matilda was visibly impressed by Gödel's perception.

“Probably on that damn traitor's boat! How many must be facing the troll?” asks Hilbert whispering.

“I think there are ten individuals!” Gödel replies, still whispering.

“If they were able to defeat this creature they wouldn't have run, would they?” Matilda asks in whispers.

“It depends a lot on the situation, Matilda. As the day approaches, I will ask Morgan to watch the battle,” says Hilbert, with orange eyes.

Morgan flies over to the confrontation area. After a while Hilbert's eyes return to normal. Morgan returns to the prince and the others.

“They indeed are the cultists and they have just been slaughtered!” whispers Hilbert. “Let's head west then, before the troll comes back this way.”

They return to their former formation and continue further west. Two hours have passed since the last stop. Gödel approaches again.

“To the north, I could sense two different scents. It is the smell of cultists and Goblins. Given the intensity of the goblin smell, I think it must be a horde. They must be thirty feet away from here, to the north." Whispers Gödel pointing out the direction of the battle.

“Now I'm sure they are coming from the sea! If the Goblins are defeated we will have enemies in our wake. If we come across another opponent we would be surrounded. How many cultists you guess?” asks Hilbert.

“The pungent smell of the Goblins is disorienting my nose. I can't be exact... I think there are fifty cultists for five hundred Goblins.” Gödel replies.

“The ratio is one to ten. I think the Goblins can be defeated, depending on the strength of the cultists. We will wait for the battle to end and then we will attack the tired winners. Morgan will watch the fight; therefore we will be able to extract more information about their power and training. Most of the cultists are disorganized and chaotic on the battlefield.” Hilbert says thoughtfully, then looks at Matilda and asks:

“Have you faced the cultists before?”

“Only once! I was patrolling the area close to the beach, with some companions from my brigade. They were a group of ten people, there was a powerful wizard among them, but they were defeated.” Matilda replies with determination.

Hilbert nods to Matilda and his eyes turn orange again. Morgan leaves for the battle site. The eagle observes the confrontation that is telepathically transmitted to Hilbert.

A horde of approximately five hundred Goblins attacked approximately forty cultists who were alive and twelve more of them were killed on the ground.

Cultists are known to wear purple robes or armor with unknown writings. Hilbert realized that the color of the robes and armor resembled the color of the aura of the evil creatures that hunted him. Their armor was very asymmetrical.

The battle went on fiercely. There was a very big man among the cultists who carried a huge sword and was defeating many enemies. A wizard used magic and was making several targeted attacks with his crystal ball. The other cultists were not very powerful, but there was an archer who was on top of a tree looking out for enemies who approached the wizard.

Hilbert speaks to his companions with orange eyes still looking at the direction of the battle that fiercely continued.

“At this rate, the Goblins will be defeated! Although more than half of the cultists were killed by now, three of them can give us a hard time.” Hilbert's eyes return to normal.

“I have a plan for this battle!” Hilbert speaks seriously, frowning. Matilda and Gödel listen carefully. “At the end of the battle, those three and a few more will probably be alive. Gödel, you will be in charge of distracting the archer that is on the tree. Your agility and speed will be enough to dodge the arrows. Get his attention and eliminate him as soon as you can. If you get close to the wizard he will focus on you, this will make it possible for us to fight without distractions. Matilda takes care of the big guy with the huge sword; he is very slow although he is very strong. I will take care of the wizard, as my shield is resistant to the elemental magic that the wizard is using. It has a crystal ball and I can feel that a sinister aura emanates from that object. Morgan will provide us with her aura emanating the magical element of the wind. This will increase our speed. As soon as their battle is over, you enter the scene, Gödel. Now we are going to approach the battle site.” Says Hilbert unsheathing his sword from his waist.

The four leave for the battle site and watch as the last goblins were wiped out by the big man. Only four cultists were left standing.

Many goblins were slaughtered and shattered to pieces. At that moment, Gödel started to run with a lot of speed, emanating the elemental aura of the wind, which had multiplied its fierce speed.

Gödel runs quickly towards the cultist who was on the big guy's side, the two, out of sheer reflex, launched an attack that Gödel avoids by taking an acrobatic leap and approaches the wizard, who was behind the two. The archer was aiming his shots at Gödel who is approaching the tree and climbing up with his sharp nails quickly in a spiral trajectory.

The archer had Gödel at close range and when shooting the arrow that Gödel managed to hold it with one hand and stuck it in the eye of the enemy that fell to certain death.

The wizard turned to launch a spell on Gödel but is distracted by the appearance of Matilda and Hilbert who were facing, the other two. Matilda was making very powerful attacks against the huge opponent who was in front of her.

When striking a blow with his huge sword, the enemy leaves his guard open and has his head cut in half by Matilda who emanated the aura of the wind. Hilbert had pierced the other enemy's chest with a very fast attack and was aiming his shield at the wizard who unleashed a powerful burst of lightning.

Hilbert was holding back that fulminating attack, while the wizard's crystal ball boosted the power of lightning. The aura that emanated from that crystal ball was purple. The intensity increased so much that the wizard created a huge force field around him that fired rays at whoever approached, leaving Matilda and Gödel unable to approach due to the electrical discharges.

When Matilda and Gödel approached the wizard, they had to dodge the lighting blasts that protected the wizard. Hilbert, step by step, was taken back due to the strength of this spell. The aura of the crystal ball greatly increased the strength of that powerful enchantment.

The wizard starts laughing and fires a few mocking defiant comments.

“Is that all your strength? I thought you would be better for all the stories they told me about your deeds.” The wizard looked confidently at the scene. Hilbert's eyes turn orange and his companions' aura fades.

“We did not come this far to impress the likes of you. We are only here to eliminate you quickly.”

Hilbert provokes as his aura shine with the element of light. His eyes were still orange and defending the attack magical attack with his shield.

Suddenly, Hilbert jumps and the wizard accompanies him with his magical attack. Hilbert's aura faded. While Hilbert blocked in the air, Morgan with her absurdly fast speed, and with her body spinning at an enormous speed and covered with the aura of light that was provided by the prince, goes off to attack the crystal ball and ends up hitting the wizard creating a wave of shock that breaks the sound barrier.

The eagle's attack shatters the crystal ball and disfigures half of the wizard's body, which falls lifeless. This shock wave, created by Morgan, pushes the three companions, that with all their strength try to hold on. Some trees were cut down while Morgan fired miles ahead.

After a while, everything calms down. The enemies were defeated. Morgan flew over the area again while Matilda, Hilbert, and Gödel were recovering from the shock wave. A small fragment of the ball floats and enters the wizard's head that rises emanating a purple aura from his eyes.

The three companions prepare for what could come. The wizard spoke in a deformed voice.

“I can see that your skills are growing prince White! Soon you will be even more worthy of the destiny that awaits you.” says the wizard as blood gushed from his left side.

“Arkhatov!? Why do you need my body, you bastard?” Hilbert asks with great anger.

“It is very clever of you for this assumption. Our paths shall cross again and all your last doubts will be solved when we meet again.” says the wizard who stopped emanating the purple aura and fell dead to the ground.

Communication with Arkhatov had been interrupted. After a few moments of silence, Matilda manifests herself.

“Hilbert, Gödel, we had better get out of here! The battle left many traces. We may discuss these morbid statements made by the corpse later.” Matilda says looking seriously at her companions.

“Let's get back to the formation and continue our search heading west!” says Hilbert. The others nod and follow Hilbert, leaving the site of the deadly battle.

After a few more hours, on the same route, they were taking, before encountering the cultists, Hilbert senses a different aura.

The prince draws the potion flask and throws the liquid forward hitting some trees and the ground.

Everything was starting to turn blue and sparkling, that was the sign of the elves' magical power. In front of them, there was a dense fog that covered the trees.

“This fog is not normal,” Gödel says, looking closely at the fog just ahead.

“It probably hides the elves' abode!” says Matilda. Hilbert looked thoughtful.

“This fog is an enchantment! It should probably serve to prevent enemies or other creatures from approaching them. The problem is that we don't know the effects of that.” Hilbert says still thoughtful.

“We must be close then! What shall we do?” Matilda asks looking at Gödel and then at Hilbert.

“Gödel! Can you detect some kind of toxic substance in this fog?” asks Hilbert still contemplating the dense fog.

“Smell of moisture, nothing toxic or acidic, just a dense fog. Ahead, I can only detect the smell of many dead bodies of cultists.” Gödel replies as he sniffed and touched the mist.

“Is there any smell of blood?” Asks Hilbert, as he was trying to look through the foggy wall that stood before them.

“There is none but from the corpses,” replies Gödel.

“What must have killed them?” Matilda asks, still confused by the situation.

“I suppose it is some kind of magic that confuses the mind.” Says Hilbert, and after a pause, he keeps talking. “Now I remember! I heard about this spell when Habbermann handed me the items I ordered. He said that it, the mist, could be fatal for those who do not have a strong heart, spirit, and mind. He told an old tale about the existence of this mysterious fog.” Hilbert stared at his companions.

“Twilight is approaching in a few hours and I don't think we can go back. There are no guarantees that we will make it out alive if we continue, but there are fewer guarantees if we return or stay here,” says Hilbert thoughtfully.

“Let's move on! If we stay together, we can support each other.” Matilda speaks.

“I don't think it's a good idea! If something can mess with our minds, I think we could target each other,” says Hilbert, and looks at Morgan. “We need to take a distance from each other and get into this fog! I'm going to ask Morgan to take a dip in that fog, so I can see what's inside,” says Hilbert, with orange eyes as Morgan flies towards the fog.

Hilbert could not see inside the fog through Morgan's eyes, and she did not return. Hilbert's eyes were back to normal. “I can no longer see through Morgan's eyes.”

“Did something or someone kill her?” asks Gödel with fear of the answer.

“I still feel her presence far away, but the telepathy is blocked,” replies Hilbert.

“How shall we proceed, Hilbert?” Matilda asks while looking at the thoughtful prince.

“Get ready! Let's go into the fog. Do not let your senses be deceived.” says Hilbert looking confidently at his companions.

“No emergency plans coming from your big brain, huh? I think we have no alternative.” Gödel sighs despondently, but soon he gets motivated and mends: “Let's go ahead then!”

“Agreed!” Matilda says this word firmly.

The three companions enter the fog, with some good distance apart from each other. Gradually they were disappearing into the fog.

In the hiding place where Timo rested, he had fallen asleep due to the effects of the medication. He was having dreams and nightmares due to the fever that was taking over his body.

In his nightmare, he watched in terror as a giant black wolf approached. Timo was a child and was alone in the woods. Suddenly the wolf attacked. The little boy had closed his eyes. In his dreams he hears a mysterious voice that speaks calmly to him:

“Open your eyes, human child! This wolf has brought you fear throughout your life, but it was not attacking you. It was only protecting you!” the voice disappears and the little boy watched the scene in front of him. In this scene, the huge wolf was snapping up a huge snake that was about to attack Timo.

This scene was frozen. Timo now in his normal form was beginning to remember Fenriz and his struggle against the being that crippled him.

“That other wolf was your companion in that battle and he died worthily to save his beloved ones! Both of you, beast and man, fought together and in harmony.” says the voice as the battle scene took place in Timo's dream.

“Wake up now! Your peers need you!” says to the voice that seemed distant.

Eckhart wakes up sweating a lot. Beside him was a figure covered with a golden cloak and golden hood.

“Who are you? How did you find me?” asks Eckhart looking at that mysterious being.

“I'm just a traveler.” answers the hidden being. “I could see a disturbance in the energy flow that permeates this world. It took me to this place. The dimension of dreams was heavily influenced by Chaos and I could watch a little vortex of that energy when I was teleporting. I could sense this flow in the dram dimension!” the being lowers his head and sits on a chair.

“You should have more questions I suppose."

“I don't think you are an enemy. Why are you here? What is your purpose?” asks Eckhart still sweating in fever.

“Good observation for your physical state! I recently found out that I need to find someone. When I left for my search for clarification, that person was not yet born. Chaos is affecting the natural order of this world in a more influential way, because of its champion. So I decided to return home.” says the being, apparently looking at Timo and continues. “When I met another human child, wearing armor like yours, I could read his mind and everything became clearer. That person I'm looking for is Hilbert Ygdrazz White."

“What do you want with him? Who are you, and why don't you reveal yourself?” says Timo pointing his bow at the being.

“I want to help you!” says the being with his arms crossed. “It is true! If I revealed myself I think I would have more credibility.” the being discovers his golden hood.

“I am Elwin Alael, prince of the elven kingdom of the Shadow Forest.” The male elf stared with his face uncovered. He had long golden hair and pointed ears, deep blue eyes, and pale skin with a golden metallic sheen.

“You are an elf!” exclaims the amazed Timo. “We have been looking for you!”

“I know! I could read your mind when we were in the dimension of dreams!” says Elwin looking around the hiding place.

Then look at Timo and speak again. “Hilbert cannot meet my father!” states Elwin while looking at Timo.

“Why not? Hilbert has already departed for his search, and I think he will find your folk soon!” Eckhart was amazed by this last statement by Elwin.

“Because my father will take his life! He thinks this is enough to prevent the Black Wizard from returning,” says Elwin, when he looked at the amazed countenance of the convalesced young man.

“Shit! I need to warn them!” says Timo in desperation trying in vain to get up.

“Calm down, Timo Eckhart! After a long time wandering around your world, I realized something important, which my people often ignore!” responds Elwin with a raised finger.

Timo stopped to listen to those words trying to calm down. Elwin continues.

“That the arrogance of my people blinds them! They would sacrifice this human child, as they think it would cause the agents of Chaos to quiet down for a while. When I traveled through all of the human and not human kingdoms, I realized that each form of life, however small, plays a role in this world. Elves contemplate death as a rare phenomenon and that blinds them. The flow of Chaos that is permeating this reality is very strong and each death, whether for the purposes of Arkhatov or not, will only strengthen this accursed force. The prince's death will only result in a major disturbance of the natural order of things and the agents of Chaos will become stronger.” Says Elwin calmly.

“What can we do then?”

“I need your help! I will create a distraction and you will rescue them from their prison confinements. My father is preparing a ritual that intends to disintegrate every part of your friend's body! Then we shall head towards the southern star realm, Southstar.” says the being while contemplating the young man laughing at his statement.

“A bedridden would be very helpful, don't you think?” says Eckhart staring in anger at the elf.

“Your body can be repaired!” says Elwin looking deeply into Timo's eyes as the young man's face showed surprised.

“The matter in your body is just deranged from its original form. This can be fixed, but it will hurt a lot! I cannot do this using only the power of the celestial aura, as the procedure will help you to strengthen your spirit. The pain will purge your soul, and you will get through the enchanted mists without much trouble! If I detain that spell, it will denounce that I brought a human with me, and my father would realize my intentions."

“I don't care about the pain! I have nothing more to lose. I need to save my friends!” says Timo while watching Elwin approach with a metallic aura surrounding the elf's body.

“After adjusting your deformities, we will depart to the Elven Palace of Shadows. After that, I will tell you in more detail how we will proceed,” says Elwin, as his hand went through Timo's flesh as if it were going through the air.

As he put his hand on the young man’s spine, a huge pain comes over Eckhart, who is howling in agony.

Gradually, Elwin was straightening Eckhart's spine. At the end of the bizarre procedure, Timo was totally cured and exhausted. The pain was gone from his body and he was beginning to regain his senses in his legs.

“Get some rest, as we are going to cross the enchanted mists! I will clarify how we will rescue your friends along the way,” says Elwin.

After Eckhart's rest, he was beginning to feel better, and they set out to meet the brave brigadiers, who deepened in the bewitched fog.

Meanwhile, in the dense fog, Hilbert could not see well and although he felt Morgan's presence, the eagle seemed very distant.

The prince walked slowly, waiting to find something or someone. As Hilbert progressed through the fog, it seemed that the trees had disappeared. Only the dense fog was visible from now on. The fog was beginning to disappear too, and to Hilbert’s surprise, he was no longer in the forest, but in the Whitecastle palace. In the throne room, he could watch his father, King Hansen, looking at him. That scene could not be real and Hilbert approaches with caution.

The figure of the king begins to speak:

“My son, I missed you so much!” says the king in a voice of tenderness and longing. The king gets up to approach Hilbert with open arms.

Hilbert looked cautiously at that scene. Hilbert knew this was some kind of illusion.

“Go away!” says Hilbert taking a few steps back. “You are not my father, just an illusion!” says Hilbert while the king stopped looking disappointed. King Hansen started to cry.

“Forgive me, my son. I should have been more cautious about my health. I couldn't see you growing up! I miss you and little Marjorie so much.” says the king sitting on the floor.

It was the king's habit to sit, in that informal way, when he was alone with his children. Hilbert watched that nostalgic scene.

“Even if you were my real father, no one was guilty of your death!” Hilbert speaks with regret in his voice.

“It was a betrayal, Hilbert!” says the king looking at the throne. “My death was the fault of my carelessness.” the king began to dry the tears.

“What?” Hilbert seemed surprised by the statement he just heard.

“Your mother slowly poisoned me with a rare type of poison that left no trace.” Hilbert looked confused and irritated by the king's words.

“It's not possible! She would never do such a thing!” Hilbert was beginning to feel a deep sadness. “You appear out of nowhere and use my father's form to slander my mother's honor! How dare you?” Hilbert wanted to cry.

“I do not know how I appeared before you my son, but I can show you the whole truth.” says the king as the scene changed to the royal kitchen.

There was his mother and Jørgen Ir with Chef Pierre. The Queen was beginning to start a conversation.

“It will bankrupt the kingdom! We must do this for the sake of my children. I ask that you trust my decision.” says Queen Helena putting a blue liquid in the soup.

“Hansen is a good friend, but unfortunately he is affecting the decisions that involve the future of our people. Its policy towards immigrants and the most unfortunate is not sustainable in the long run,” says Jørgen Ir, lowering his head.

“I will serve him that last dish and then ask him to collect your payment Pierre,” says Queen Helena, while Pierre bowed.

Hilbert looked at that scene while his heart was filling with fury. The prince started screaming and then falls to his knees in tears. The scene changed to the throne room.

“Sorry to show you this, son!” says the king in a choked voice.

“That's a lie and you're not my father! Don’t call me like that!” Hilbert was very upset and gets up drying his tears.

The king goes to Hilbert and hugs him. The feeling of the embrace was the same as that of his father. Hilbert hugs him back.

“I know I'm not alive anymore, but I love you, my son! I ask you to be strong and avenge my death!” the king walks away drying his tears and sits on the throne. Hilbert lowers his head and after a while looks at the king coldly.

“Thanks for the hug, I felt a sensation that I haven't felt in a long time. But even if my father was killed in such a coward way, he would never ask for revenge!” says Hilbert confidently.

The throne room scene was beginning to fade and Hilbert was in the forest again. The fog was beginning to disappear and a clear road was before him.

Gödel passed through the fog following his nose but was unable to orient himself. Gradually he detects a familiar smell and goes to that place. The fog was beginning to fade. Gödel looked at the scene in front of him in surprise. It was his parents' humble home. His father was drinking wine and his mother was cooking on a wood stove.

Gödel looked at the two who seemed to be bigger, but in fact, he got smaller, in the form of a young boy. Gödel was confused.

“Dinner will be ready! Go wash your hands, my dear!” Gödel's mother says these words with a smile on her beautiful face. Gödel was still baffled by the situation.

“What a nightmare! You made that soup again!” Gödel's father says angrily, throwing the wine bottle near the cauldron. Gödel was beginning to tremble with fear.

“And you, you little brat! What are you doing standing there! You think you can take me, huh?” Gödel's father gets up and slaps him in the face, throwing him away. Gödel's mother approaches her father and begins to hold the alcohol-altered man.

“Stop it, Roger, you will kill the boy!” Gödel's mother says with tears in her eyes.

The man turns to the woman and throws a straight punch in her face. The blow causes the woman to fall to the ground, unconscious.

“That's what I get for having married a foreigner, bad food, and a brown-skinned son who is a worthless piece of shit who thinks can stand against me!” The man lifts Gödel by the worn shirt and throws him on the floor. Gödel begins to bleed from his mouth. “At least your blood is red, you shitty half-blooded! The only reason I sheltered you is because of the pension you both provide me, but it barely buys a bottle of good wine. If I only got a girl instead of a useless boy like you, I could make things funnier.” the man starts to stomp on the boy. Gödel was very afraid. The feeling of that scene in his childhood had destroyed his reason.

“Stop it! It hurts!” Pleaded the boy in desperation.

“I'll just hit you until the dirt the color of your skin is gone from my vision, you brown trash! I should leave you with this ragged foreigner in the forest.” These words remind the boy of the forest to which he had fled.

After that lapse of memory, the image of Fenriz appeared in his mind. Gödel was beginning to remember the wolf and then Kayleigh's face.

The image in his mind begins to arouse fury in the boy. When Gödel's father was going to kick the fallen boy again, he quickly grabs his father's leg and breaks his foot with a twist. The man was starting to scream in pain. Gödel gets up.

“You were never my father, you wretch! You were never my family!” Gödel said those words with great anger. “Now I remember everything! You killed my mother that day and I ran away scared. How dare you kill her?” Gödel approached his father and held him by the collar of his worn shirt. The man started to laugh.

“Like father, like Son. I know you want revenge, you shit! Show me that you are my son! Let's see if there is fiber in your mixed-race body.” the man looked at Gödel who was enraged.

Gödel drops the collar of the man's shirt and goes to the body of his dead mother.

“I'm sorry, Mom, for not being stronger. I just did what a helpless child could do… to run away.” Gödel starts to cry wiping the blood off his dead mother's face. “Don't worry about me mom, because I found people in this world that I can trust and love as a family.”

“You are a waste o flesh, you trash!” says the man who started to laugh louder.

“No!” Gödel turned to his father with a look of fury. “The only trash here is you! You are a damn racist! I would never be a coward like you. I should have come back to kill you, but that would have made me a person like you. I am going to do something that a man of your nature would never have the guts to do!” the man gets up and holds the boy by the neck.

“What are you going to do? Do you think you are better than me?” The man's eyes emitted a huge fury. Gödel holds his father's arms and he was no longer a child.

“I am neither better nor worse than anyone. I hope my mother forgives you in the other world. She is the person who has suffered the most with all your hatred. When I find you out of this nightmare, I will make you bow to her grave, if you ever buried her. On that day, I shall forgive. You are not even worth my hate.” Gödel throws his father in the chair.

“To forgive? I don't need the forgiveness of a coward half-breed!” the man started to laugh.

“I know you don’t, but I need to forgive myself! And that is what I shall do.” Gödel looked at his mother's body with tears in his eyes. The illusion was beginning to disappear and Gödel was facing a road. He goes on that path thinking about his mother.

In the other part of the fog, Matilda walked with long strides when she came across a blond girl in a beautiful dress. She cried looking at Matilda who suddenly stopped walking.

“Matilda! You came back for me!” said the girl who ran into the warrior's arms.

“Joan? What are you doing here?” Matilda asks in surprise.

“I came here to see you!” Joan kisses Matilda's mouth. Matilda pushes the girl away.

“What happened? I thought you were married and pregnant!” Matilda looked surprised.

“I could never forget our love! My husband abandoned me after my son was stillborn.” the girl looked sad.

“I never forgot about you, Joan! Even when you said you wanted to have a normal life.” Matilda had a heavy heart and a very confused mind.

“What matters is that now we will be together! You said you'd leave the brigade and run away with me, don't you remember?” Joan closes her eyes and hugs Matilda who had tears in her eyes. “Let's go, please!” says Joan looking deeply into Matilda's watery eyes.

“I remember that day, and also your wedding day. I was so happy but so sad at the same time. You were so beautiful in that dress.” Matilda smiles at the girl.

“Nothing will stop us from being together now!” Joan takes Matilda by the arm and leads her to a luxurious house. Matilda was in the kitchen with Joan.

“I never thought I would meet you again!” says Matilda who looked at Joan cooking.

“I thought I would be happier having a normal life with a rich husband, but I was wrong!” says Joan sadly and looking down.

“I prepared everything to leave and just left a letter for my brother Bravius!” Matilda smiles.

“It doesn't matter now! I'm going to serve the food you like most with roast beef, shall I?” Joan puts a plate of roasted meat on the table. Matilda looks at the girl who was smiling and sat next to her.

“That day you said you loved me, but wanted to have a less troubled life. When I returned to the brigade prepared to be expelled for desertion, my brothers were there. I will never forget those warm hugs. Bravius forgave me and tore up my letter, while Brando cried.”

Matilda looked at the meat, but her thoughts were distant. The memory of his brothers' eyes awakens a warm sensation in Matilda.

“Forget about it, my love! Nothing will separate us again.” Joan was holding Matilda's hand.

“Even if it all of this was real, Joan! I could not abandon my brothers and my mission.” Matilda gets up with tears in her eyes.

“Don't leave me, Matilda! I beg!” said Joan with tears in her eyes.

“I was not the one who has forsaken our love.” Matilda smiles and gently caresses Joan's face. “My chest still hurts when I remember your face, but I need to move on because my companions need me. There was nothing wrong with our love my dear, only with you!” Matilda watched Joan crying while everything disappeared in front of her. The fog was gone and only one road was in front of her. Matilda goes on wiping away her tears.

Ahead, the three roads met and the companions were reunited. Morgan was perched on a branch looking at Hilbert. They greet each other and check if everything was fine.

After a while, walking ahead, they find a palace that mixes with the trees and the rock wall of the mountains. It was made of metallic rock and was very tall. There were two elves covered with silver robes at the entrance to the palace, which was lit by enchanted stones of the most diverse shades of blue. The structure of the palace was very square on the outside. The elves approach.

“Hilbert Ygdrazz White! We were waiting for your arrival!” says an elf bowing his head slightly. The other elf also nods.

“Follow us, as King Filanwin Alael awaits you with enthusiasm. And your guests are also welcome!” says the other elf.

“This is a surprise! I didn't think we could be expected.” Hilbert tries not to show his air of suspicion.

“There is a banquet prepared for your arrival, human child! We'll take care of you. Don't worry from now on! Our king rests in his chambers. He will see you tomorrow.” says the elf who pointed the way to the palace entrance. Gödel and Matilda looked relieved and headed for the entrance. Hilbert was thoughtful and follows his companions.

“Could you supply us with weapons and armor? Our journey back will be very risky!” Hilbert says trying to hide his distrust.

“Of course we can! Our weapons and armor are as good as those made by the best blacksmithing dwarves, but with a more refined touch!” replies the elf.

The companions enter the luxurious palace with a mystical atmosphere. It was already night and the exploration through the shadow forest had found its end.
