《The Portable Dungeon》Chapter 12.4

A huge bear laid waste to the monsters dwelling inside the dungeon, be they made of meat or metal. With a swipe of its claws, fresh meats were scattered. With a tackle using its huge body, metal were blown into pieces. Nothing was able to stop the bear from rampaging inside the dungeon.
“GRUOOOOOAAAA!!!”
“… This is one strong bear…”
The bear dodged an attack coming from a Void Iron Golem and used its claws to shred it to pieces. A Void Wild Boar charged at it with but ended up not dealing any damage. Instead, what happened next was that the Void Wild Boar was smashed to pieces, blood and meat splattered across the ground.
This was enough to instill fear onto an onlooker, much more if he was the target of the bear in question, but not me. Why?
“Good thing that judging by its strength, this Giga Void Iron Golem is leagues stronger than that bear.”
The reason was simple. My Giga Void Iron Golem was leagues stronger than that bear. Even if a hundred of those bears were to simultaneously attack my Giga Void Iron Golem, it would not leave a scratch on its body.
“Strength really is everything in this world, huh…?”
While I was just about to get inside the cockpit of the Giga Void Iron Golem, Mari came running up to me with worried eyes.
“Gren, will you be okay?”
“Don’t worry Mari. I’ll beat up that bear up faster than you can say my name.”
“… Gren…”
“… Okay, good one. Anyway, it won’t take too long so just sit tight. Once I return, I’ll give you some pointers on how to create those skin-tight suits.”
“Really!?”
Okay, now I know that something about those suits sparked a flame within Mari, but all I can do is support her in what she is going to do.
“Yes, I will. Hurry and go back in house now. The bear will reach here any minute.”

“Yes Gren! Remember what you said!”
With fluttering steps, Mari joyfully returned to the house while skipping like a child. It brought a smile to my lips, seeing that the depressed Mari from before can now smile like that.
“… Don’t worry Mari.”
I entered the cockpit of the Giga Void Iron Golem and entered my battle mode. Just like it was planned, the bear burst through the huge double doors. It wasn’t covered in wounds nor was it exhausted, it just looked annoyed at the small fries that tried to attack it earlier.
That’s why after about 5-10 monsters died fighting it, I ordered the other monsters to hide and avoid the rampaging bear.
“You better give me lots of MP for summoning new monsters!!”
To start the fight, I quickly dashed towards the bear. Its imposing body was less threatening when I was riding the Void Giga Iron Golem, but that didn’t mean it didn’t daunt me. I am a little scared, but should I be scared and cower in fear for the rest of my life when fighting against strong opponents?
“You are just an ant compared to Karo!!”
“GRUOOOOOHHHHH!!!”
I slammed the golem shoulder against the bear. The cave shook and we arrived at a standstill. The bear caught the charge using its front paws. The next thing I did was swing the blade upward to break the deadlock after leaning the golem backwards to make the bear lose balance from the force it was using to push me.
The bear reacted quickly from my action, but was a little bit slow in its execution. The result, my sword swing cut off one of its paws.
“GRAAAAAAAAAHHHHHH!!!”
It howled in pain and glared at me with intense hate and rage. It stood up on its two hind legs and its height reached about 6 meters.
“Holy fuck…”
I was shocked at the huge body of the bear, but that didn’t mean I could stop. While cursing, I continued to move while dodging the attacks of the bear.

For a bear, its attacks were humanlike.
There was a kick, a paw punch, there was even a body slam after connecting it from a failed paw slam.
“Is this fucking Tek**n!?”
That is not a character within a game, that is a real live bear, and it is doing martial arts! But it wasn’t a reason to stop and be mesmerized at the sight.
I quickly counterattacked once I saw an opening and sliced with my blade, but it did not deal much damage since the way I handle a blade sucks.
“A chance!! Die!!!”
While I was at a loss on how to break this stalemate, a chance occurred. The bear slowed down because of the blood loss from the cumulative damage, and taking that gap in defense as cue, I quickly closed in and thrust the blade towards the neck of the bear.
It tried to block using its remaining paw, but my sword was mightier than the paw, and pierced through the whole arm and even its neck. I drew the sword from the flesh of the bear and stuck it in the ground. With that as a signal, the bear toppled down never to move again.
“… Done… I did it…”
[Successful Defense!!
Spoils:
Giant Martial Bear x 1 = 1500 MP
Personal Kill: 250 MP

Giant Martial Bear Claw**** x 3
Giant Martial Bear Hide***** x4

Giant Martial Bear Eye******** x 1]
“Woah!! So much MP, the items are numerous as well!!”
This was probably the highest amount of MP I had ever gotten from a defense. But the excitement didn’t only stop there.

When I heard the familiar bell ringing, a holographic window appeared. And when I saw the changes, new writings had been added.
Combat Pilot Capabilities – When riding a combat vehicle, increases status of the vehicle and handling of the user.
“Aside from the massive increase in stats, I get a new skill huh…”
When I read the skill description, my heart fluttered to cloud-9.
“With this, I’m even stronger now! But… this applies to my skin-tight suit too?”
Since my status showed a 15% increase in my physical abilities, I guess it applies to the skin-tight suit too. When I tested my current strength, I concluded that I was at least 30% stronger than earlier.
“Such a huge jump in strength… Not that I dislike it.”
Of course, the stronger I am, the better it is, so no worries about it.
“Now then, how about the new monster I can summon?”
Monster Species: Giant Martial Bear
Special Ability: Bear Martial Arts
Threat Level: C+
Cost: 150 MP
Influence from the Dungeon: Gains the special ability and increases strength, agility and dexterity. Raises by 3 ranks.
Additional Cost: 100 MP
“It really is a bear from Tek**n!!!”
I retorted at the sudden realization that the bear I defeated was not a normal monster.
“But with this, I can now summon an even stronger monster to protect my dungeon!”
The usage of this monster can break the balance of my dungeon so this is very, very welcome for me. But still, the excitement still didn’t stop here…
(Congratulations for reaching Drake/Gren.)
The familiar and nostalgic message board, TB no. 2 returned.

The Shape of Home
The world of Alvelotyl is one of fantasy, one filled with many races, an expansive magic system exploring themes of identity, some LitRPG elements, moral ambiguity and no small amount of magical inventions similar to those in our world. Dragons with blogs showing off their hoards of treasure live alongside [Hunters] chasing Giant Toads, or [Bandits] using rifles charged with Fire Magic. The Shape of Home is a story within this world, and follows the exploits of Yuri Scalesmith, a budding Lizardfolk adventurer from a small country town with a knack for inventing, and how her life drastically changes after she’s taken from home forever following a single catastrophic event. After being taken from her previously normal life, Yuri is thrust into a world of sprawling streets, magically mutated monsters, and a crime war for territory stretching across an entire city. The Shape of Home normally updates every Tuesday and Saturday at 6PM GMT, but I'm trying out different upload times to see how people react and attract others in differing timezones. There will be two week long breaks after each story arc's Interlude. This story is also a participant in the Royal Road Writathon challenge!
