《The Mechanist》Chapter 5: The second milestone

So almost a month has passed and tomorrow every one will be like happy birthday to me. I'm so on the hype train. God its good to be a kid with all the love care gifts. Well apart from me being reincarnated and having the mentality of about twenty year old everything is peachy. I have been practicing speaking these few months, trying to read aloud from my only book and I'm getting better. Its kinda funny when you think about it, when i read those fantasy novels the mc would be able to recite Iliad without a sweat with all of its tongue twisters at the age of one. But reality is different new body and all that, gotta start from the literal square one.
Ahh good times so i cant wait the day to pass and right now I'm counting stars, man so many stars. Lets see where was i ...oh year 456..457..45....
As morning came i am rising with shine. Buuut my parents are sleeping. I guess its time for some revenge on dad due to the heavy lessons the past few months. I swear without them i probably couldn't fix the nail last month. Anyway i got up, walked slowly from my crib to my parents bed. Luckily the weren't snuggling together due to the late spring heat. why late? cuz the trees almost lost their petals. I aim carefully....and jump on my dads pot belly and surprisingly i bounce up once and my dad cramps in a bit of pain. I fall back with my hole body on his belly and i look him in the face.
"Good morning!!!">Salion
With how energetic i was his slight annoyance was replaced bu a smile and a big laugh.
"Buahaha ya little rascal cant you wait for us to get up? I swear you are the most energetic brat I've seen so far">Jonathan
Mom woke up from the noise with her soothing smile.
"Good morning sweetie, and happy birthday">Clarice
We messed around in bed playing laughing, smiling, and enjoying the warm light of the sunrise. Breakfast was simple and quick, there were no cakes for birthdays here, no lavish parties, just spending the day with your loved ones. Maybe nobles have the old fashioned birthday party, but to tell you the truth i like this one better. We got dressed up and headed out. When we got close enough to see the village, mom stopped got as close as she could to my eye level and said.
"My dear Sal, we are going in to the village. We know you are special and know even then we love you so, can you pretend to be a normal two year old while we are in the village?">Clarice
The last part she said with a bit of sadness so i got a bit worried and asked.
"Why? Is it wrong to be special?">Salion
I already didn't care whether they knew i was reincarnated or not. If they ask i would tell them if not, none would be the wiser. I even felt a bit of despair when she asked me. But my worries were soon put to rest.
"No. Nothing wrong with our little boy being special. We love you just the way you are. But most people will view you as different, and people are often afraid from things they do not understand.">Clarice
"I cant even slug em if they give you the rot eye humph">Jonathan
Dads comment made me giggle. I grabbed my dads hand and helped mom get up, as much as i could. Grabbed hers and started dragging them toward the village. I stopped just on the border, where people couldn't see us and waited for them to lead the way.

They got the hint and we slowly headed in. The houses were a lot bigger than ours. Ours was about 40 square meters, 25 for the living room/kitchen and 16 for the bedroom. The roof was nicely knit straw that didn't leak even in the fiercest of storms and trust me, once during one of those i watched the roof for leaks. The water just slid down the knit pattern on the bottom of the roof and went to one of the corners straight into small holes in the ground. I even saw mom fixing the roof once. I guess she is the more resourceful of my two parents. The village houses were bigger maybe 4 rooms? I don't know most lack the style my house has, those look better made but my house is better in overall quality. Not to mention their roofs would leek, probably. As we went further in i started noticing more people, but i wish i didn't. Thy all would look at us with disgust, hatred, contempt and even go as far as to hide their children once i look at them. Thats beyond paranoid.
My toddler facade was starting to slip due to all the rot eyes i got. It was my damn birthday and those plebs had to ruin my mood. I just turned two and I'm already on the top ten most hated list follower by my dad and mom respectably. My dad saw my declining mood and squeezed my hand a little to get my attention.
"Don't worry were almost there.">Jonathan
Dad sounded too polite. It sent shivers down my spine. He is never that polite he is the good ol happy drunk type. I don't want to know how he is when he is serious. We headed deeper in to village, where there were more villagers. Don't those people work or something. My parent work most of the time and take a break now and again, especially for my birthday. By now they should have started to prepare the field for farming. But no, they all have to be here to give me the rot eye. We got close to what looks like the village square. It has a bit of stalls with people selling their produce. The houses are better made some even are two storеy houses, size wise they are bout 4 times bigger than mine, only the first floor wise. They even have tiled roofs which I'm guessing are expensive since only half a dozen houses have them. The biggest one looks like a mansion 3 times bigger than the rest. In front of it i see Sarah, the bit...rude lady from last month, talking with someone, in her hands is a toddler, around my age id say.
Judging by the dress with frills and bright colors, it's a boy dressed in drag. Well my pissed of attitude aside, she looked adorable as far as toddler my age can be. The moment our eyes met i smiled and waved. She just looked curious for a moment smiled and waved back. I'm guessing all the hate has a source which takes time to take a hold. Our small exchange didn't went unnoticed by our parents. Mine just smiled, and dad teased a bit.
"Bhuahah just turned two and already hitting on the ladies.">Jonathan
Sarah the bit...lady she was stopped what she was doing, her expression turned grim. She gave the now customary rot eye. He daughter started crying due to her mothers mood, which quickly got remedied by her mother. As far as could guess she told her something which both calmed her and made the slight friendliness and curiosity in her eyes when she looked at me disappear. I'm guessing i found the bit...root of the problem in this village. Well i always had the 'I don't acquaint with people unless they do ' attitude so ignoring most people shouldn't be a problem. Especially a two year old toddler with the same level of intellect who is close to hating me for no reason.

With that little encounter done with, we stopped in front of a one storey house, one of the better ones. It had a front yard with herbs growing, or weeds I'm no expert and they sure don't look like flowers. My dad got close to the door and banged on it. Yeah with his fist, i guess he cant elegantly knock. Well that is more effective in getting people to answer you. It's both rude and noisy as hell. I heard a muffled 'Im coming' somewhere from the house and soon enough the door was opened. There stood an old man a bit taller than mom, with a brown long beard with some white streaks about 50-60cm...Im bad at guessing peoples hight. It is considering the big difference between my parents. If we say the old guy is about 185cm then mom would be about 165 and dad....210..yeah i know that why i haven't tried to measure hight. So back to the old man as i said 185 tall, 50-60 long white beard with some white streaks, bald with a green robe with some darker spots. Id put him in the mid forties range. As he saw dad he gave a friendly smile but it quickly turned in to worry as he notice the atmosphere outside.
"Quickly come in, leave those idiots outside to their own idiocy.">Old man
We got in without much talking. I guess we all wanted to escape that atmosphere of hatred outside, if i was an actual 2 year old kind id probably be crying my eyes out. The inside was cozy and smelled like a good old chemistry lab. This guy is either the local alchemist, healer or both. We went further in to a room with a table with some chairs around it, a couch next to one of the walls and what looked like a bed. For a house of this size this is a lot of stuff in one room. I guess he is a healer and this is the room for guests and patients. I sat down at the couch and the other tree sat on the chairs around the table.
"Welcome my old friend how has life treated you?">Old man
"Not bad actually. Good food, happy memories, a loving wife and even a son. You know the usual.">Jonathan
Another one of dads friend? Weird as hell. First the only blacksmith then the village healer, who's next the only general goods store clerk?
"So thats junior who has been riling Sarah up eh?">Old man
"What do you mean Mark? She only met him once.">Jonathan
"Well i guess it enough for her to label him spawn of evil or something along those lines. But we both know she got a screw lose or two.">Mark
"Damn that woman, not only did she ruin our lives but she also want to ruin his....for what?">Jonathan
"Lets put the heavy stuff away, i haven't seen you for a while. When Jack told me you had a son I was quite exited to meet him. Mostly because of your reckless nature, you probably put the boy through your training regime already.">Mark
Dad just looked guilty so mom as usual chimed in.
"Don't worry Salion is very curious about everything, so when John saw him trying to imitate him he got a bit exited. But he never does anything he cant handle.">Clarice
Well mom was right..sort of my dad once tried to tie rock on my back hands and feet and mom cough him in the middle of it...and damn was it a scolding. After that no more hell training just borderline hell. Enough to occupy my free time and i would have just enough energy to go trough dinner maybe take a bath and drag myself to my bed. Yes bed I'm not calling it a crib anymore. Its fringing huge, my mom can sleep in it without a problem.
"Well then what can i do for you today?">Mark
"Well its his second birthday so we came to have him evaluated">Clarice
"Oooh hes that old already...they grow fast don't they. Well then, ill go get the orb and something to eat."
He went further into the house and after a bit a lot of noise could heard. Probably searching for something. He came back with two bows one filled with jurkey and the other with..sweets? I have never seen such sweets, my mom sometimes makes sweet bread or something but hose looked like pills. He put the jerky on the table and the sweets next to me with a smile, i just smiled back and hoped the sweets are legit. He went back in to the house and soon emerged with a cloudy crystal ball with a small crack on it. He put it on my other side and started something like a medical exam.
"Lets see you look healthy, quite strong for your age"He gave dad a are you serious glance and dad just counted the tiled on the ceiling." Now lets see how good you are with magic">Mark
As a heard him say the magic word, pun intended, my eyes shone like searchlights. He took the cracked orb with his both hands in front of me and said.
"Put your hand on the orb and lets see what fate has in store for you.">Mark
I did as he said, i raised my hands took a look at my palms and slowly placed them on the orb.

The tale of the Human Empire, the Demon Empire, and the Alliance of Beastmen is a tale as old as time itself. Yet at times it seems that truth is stranger than fiction, they never expected the world would be united in the most unexpected of ways...

The Legend of Ghost
This is a quick novella origin story to one of fan-favorite characters in the ZERO universe, Sam Dobbs, a.k.a. Slade Gardner, a.k.a. the Ghost. I wrote it for current ZERO series fans, after many insistent, fervent, teary-eyed demands. Still, I think it pretty much works as a stand-alone, so I'll post it here. (He gets the name Ghost later, not as part of this story...this is just the why he decided to do what he did, being slightly insane and all.) Lots of easter eggs for current fans. 15k words total, chapters will be approx. 2.5k each. Oh, and if you get turned off by crazy, hyperintelligent antisocials being crazy, hyperintelligent antisocials, this isn't the story for you. ;)
