《The Mechanist》Chapter 3-Secrets to be told

Another six months went by. I'm now one and a half years old. I got my body used to standing and started practicing walking though at a snails pace as for my linguistic skills i can use proper words now though more than one or two is a tongue twister. I can read most of the letters and my dictionary is almost full. The book on adventuring was good practice and i learned a lot from it although i didn't fully memories it, just the basics and the more epic creatures. Like goblins, wolves, rabbits, horned rabbits, devil hare etc. As for the epic ones i naturally looked at the dragon information about it wasn't much but it was from the back of the book and even had a picture which means some one lived to tale the tale. I asked dad to buy me books on magic but he said i don't need them. I wonder why? He also told me we will be going into the forest for training or something since i can walk now...sort of.
The nest day we all got up before sunset, you get used to it my parents were amazed by my vitality. As a baby my age, I should be sleeping a lot more, but i just flex the time: Sleep when you can, so you wont when you dont want. I guess university thought me a thing or two.
We had breakfast my mom went to tend to the field and me and dad head to the forest. It wasn't anything special just more overgrown then the ones i know. As we approached we kept quite. Well dad did i was riding on his shoulder. It was quite comfy and i could see everything. Suddenly he stopped and smiled, he walked to a nearby tree and put me on the tallest brach he could safely place me on. I was curious and gave him a weird look he just made the hush motion and pointed to a nearby bush. After a few minutes of watching the bush moved. I guess thats for dinner tonight. Dad slowly circled the bush and started running forward. His actions scared the critter in to action as it sprang towards the tree i was sitting on.

What came out of the bush was a bunny. White long ears....and a horn between them. A horned rabbit. From the book i know that horned rabbits are uncommon about one in every five is one. And thats not considering the rabbit mating season.
As i watched the rabbit spring toward my tree i saw dad turn into a blur and speed passed the rabbit. He stopped below my brach and took me back on his shoulder. He smiled and raised his other arm and in it was the dead rabbit. I didn't even notice when he grabbed it. I was seriously impressed so i started clapping my hands in approval and with our lunch and dinner caught. I was wondering so i asked.
"Rabbit.Money?">Salion
"No that's for dinner but you already knew that.">Jonathan looked at me to clarify
"Money.Food?">Salion
"Ahhh.. Don't worry. Me and your mom make plenty of money and can make more but we don't need it. Simple ls something me and your mom wanted, so we never have anything unnecessary in our house.">Jonathan
"Magic.Book?">Salion
"I told you we don't need it. Besides you can't use magic the way you are. Though i do know you have insight on magic from somewhere, I don't know how much mana you have. It will be hard to find the optimal training if we don't know what and when something works">Jonathan
"Mana?">This is the first explanation i got from them about magic. And yes, my mom doesn't use flint and steel. Apparently she lights the fireplace with a snap of her fingers. I found out about it just tree weeks ago a bit before finishing the book. And she just smiled and said that she will tell me about it eventually.
As for why my dad knows about my knowledge above average not just my smarts, its because after i saw mom use magic i decided to improve the bathroom. Sketched a simple pulley system that when you crank it moves water from the well all the way to the heating stove and from there bucket by bucket it pulls it up and drops it down. Manually of course. When dad looked at it he didn't know what was he looking at so mom took it somewhere and a week later the parts arrived which dad assembled under moms instructions. I guess they make a good combo.

"Yes pipsqueak mana. It is all around us and in everything and when people use spells they use it to power them or use the mana around them to increase their power 'He swung his axe with his pinky....his god damn pinky' or your speed 'As he said that the world around me blurred and we were several feet away' so in order for you to use it, we can't buy you a book about it instead we will....well lets leave that as a surprise ">Jonathan
As my eyes shone with excitement my dad just chuckled and kept going forward. As we got home i got all exited about the massac...aghm...hunt and told mom all about it and started asking questions about magic. My mom just looked at dad but he is whistling without a care and watching in another direction. As the night fell we had dinner and stayed for a bit more i used the time to think about practical applications of magic. I am probably making a funny face, because when my mom saw me she laughed a bit and only said.
"Don't worry little Sal, with time all your questions will be answered. But remember |With great power comes a great responsibility|. ">Clarice
"And |Knowledge is Power| don't forget that one too">Jonathan
I guess mom didn't mind him chiming in. I guess wise crack are widespread even across different worlds. And so the day came to and end. Being a kid again is so refreshing but i know it won't last for long. One day it will end.
Next few weeks weren't as eventful, but dad decided that he will help me train. I guess he noticed me trying to do so by myself and got disappointed by my methods. Huuhhh this quickly became a pain every time i wanted to walk he would put a big leather belt with a big metal buckle and for some reason mom didn't mind she just watched with her warm smile. The belt is heavy as fuck...i had to actually start crawling in order to make my body used to the weight and every night i would go to bed tired. Proper training is fun though you sweat, bleed and when you get your results its total bliss.

The chapter got too big for my taste so i cut it in half and due to the story cut the next chapter is twice the size of this one

An Unwilling Monster
In the city of Kholakel, the highlight of the year for the upper classes is the annual monster pacification of the misty woods. Ostensibly it's a culling of the monster population to prevent them encroaching on urban areas, but it's an open secret that it's actually treated as more of a blood sport, the participants competing to score the most kills. After all, why else would the politicians and elites of the city bother to attend personally? Given the intense competition and high-tech weapons and gear in use, one might wonder how the forest has not yet been completely depopulated. As this year's culling approaches, a group of unfortunate children are about to discover the answer first-hand, but thanks to an unexpected twist of fate, one of them will score the chance to play the role of the hunter instead of the prey. This was an attempt at writing something darker than my usual fare. The story I actually ended up with isn't as mean to the MC as I'd originally planned out, to the point that I'm not sure the story deserves the horror/grimdark tags anymore, but this is still an unfair world with unambiguously evil antagonists. Chapters are short to start with, but get longer once the first act is over.
