《Angel's Song: Requiem of the Dreams》121. Angie's Worry

(Angie’s View)
Angie ran. She knew that she couldn’t stay any longer bottled up in this terrible room. She didn’t enjoy looking at Snow stuck in the tube of magical water, floating as if she was some kind of evil experiment.
The moment when Snow fell backward and entered into the very magical water, dissolving her clothes slowly like acid. Her white hair started to grow in length to the point where it now touched her very knee.
Hundreds of electrical wires smacked over towards the round tube. They reared back, snapping onto the very outer shell. Green energy sparked through the tubes, dipping into the very water. Turning the blue water slightly green as it mixed with some kind of fluid. Some even broke through the thick water linings and pierced into her very skin, giving it an eerie green glow.
The glow climbed up her very skin and traveled throughout her body like plant roots. Even reaching up to cover her face to swallow her whole. Suddenly, a bright gold and black glow appeared on her right side of her face, showing off her tattoos that would usually summon up her armor.
It radiated with power, churning the water as it gobbled up the green energy that tried to take over her body itself. Four bands that were wrapped around arms and legs appeared, showing off her promise that she made with God. Two of the four bands glowed gold, activating with vigor as it repelled even more of the tainted energy, purifying the water back to its pure blue state of magic.
The glass tube frosted over, leaving a small window to view.
At first, Angie stood in place, unable to tear her gaze away as everything happened before in seconds. It was magical, horrifying; at the same time, she was relieved to see that Snow didn’t turn into a monster.
Larsen watched with his perverted little beady eyes as he licked his lips in hunger.
Angie scowled at Larsen as she wanted to chase him away. She snapped around and shouted,
“Go away you pervert!”
Startling Larsen, who was deeply engrossed in his own fantasy, he snarled at her. “Kid, you aren’t needed here anymore.”
Angie folded her arms. “Yea, right. You shouldn’t be here, you disgusting pervert.”
Larsen barked out laughing, but suddenly stopped as he glared at Angie as if she was an insignificant worm. “A useless child like you is nothing but a burden. She took your spot because she didn’t believe that you weren’t strong enough to take place.”

Angie simmered at his words, but she didn’t back down. Her guts were telling her that this man was dangerous, probably aiming to do something to Snow that could bring more harm than good.
“Even if I am useless, I know what's right from right and wrong from wrong. You are evil!” Angie pouted, placing her right hand on her hip and pointing her fingers at him.
“That is quite an accusation.” Larsen snorted, rolling his eyes. “To see the world in such a black and white filter, you must live in an idealized world. How pathetic.” He turned his back on her.
“I do not!”
Larsen didn’t even answer. Instead, he pressed a button on the side, leaning over towards the comms. “I need someone to take this girl out of here.” He then stood back up straight.
The doors suddenly burst open as two soldiers came bursting in. Both grabbed Angie by the shoulder and arm, dragging her out.
“Hey! You can’t do this!” Angie flared around, trying to get out of the grip.
“I just did,” said Larsen, not budging by her screams.
Angie was roughly thrown across the floor. The door closed with a slam as the two guards were stationed outside. A shock of pain erupted throughout her body, especially her butt and lower back.
“You vile demon!” Angie got up shakily, rubbing her butt. “I’ll get back at you for sure.” She glared.
Angie was furious at how she was treated, but she was mostly angry at how weak she was as a healer. She barely knew any offensive attacks, and she was easily ferried away by the two bodyguards as if she was nothing. This was the real reason why she didn’t want to be just a typical healer that many of the others followed.
She liked the power and assertive actions that Snow took upon herself to slay monsters at the same time heal people. Snow wasn’t always a damsel in distress, and Angie herself didn’t want to be that type of person either that needed hand me outs because she was a girl. It was like her ideal self; she aspired to be as her eyes sparkled, but as quickly as it came, it dissipated.
Her eyes turned slightly crazy from anger, snapping her head towards the two bodyguards. She stood up straight, gently patting herself a few times on her clothes to straighten herself out.
Even if she learned a little bit of skill of fighting, it wasn’t enough. She needed help and knew that there were only a few things she could do now, but that didn’t mean she would run away. Oh, no. She was ready to grind that miserable leech of a person a mind of her own as diabolical thoughts run rampant in her mind.

Many people had asked her how she was able to summon up light magic, mostly because of her nefarious deeds that some people considered unethical. But, she saw herself as a defender of justice, and if one needed fire to fire, she would do it in a heartbeat.
Angie didn’t budge in place, she stared down the two guards before she turned around.
Throughout the day, she ran around the place, trying to find more information about the different patterns of the guard's movement.
It wasn’t a one-day event as she searched for an answer to her plan that she knew would take time to perfect.
A couple of times, she had tried to sneak around the two guards that were always situated next to the door to tinker out a few things to get Snow out. Each time, she terribly failed, resulting in a painful beating or a throwback onto the ground.
It took a good week to get down the two guards' schedules and follow Larsen around without getting caught.
Though what was annoying to meet up with is finding Mike and Dairen as they seem to miss each other a few minutes late, making it frustrating as time went on.
Finally, Angie was able to find them as it took a bit of time to track both of them down. She opened the door to the bathroom on the lowest floor. They were diligently mopping up a dirty bathroom as a yellow signed stating cleaning was placed in the front for no one to enter.
Angie heard a few groans and curses from both Mike and Dairen. She stopped, already she could smell the old urine. Unconsciously, she took in a sharp breath in, before she called out to tell.
“Mike. Dairen.” Angie took a step back as she wanted to stay far away.
A rustle could be heard as a pitter-patter of feet came out. Both of them were covered in a yellow uniform that protected their whole body. They even wore a thick mask.
“Angie?” Dairen was the first to step out. He took off his gloves and shoved the mop to the side.
“What are you doing here?”
Mike was not too far behind. He hissed with discontent, but he didn’t curse out loud like Dairen, who were more vocal. Behind him were a few skeletal minions also cleaning up as they came to help Mike and Dairen out of their uniform.
“Hi.” Angie bluntly said, taking a look at the skeletons with a bit of unease. She still wasn’t comfortable around them as they had a powerful dark energy spewing out like waterworks.
“Weren’t you with Snow?” Dairen asked Angie, who handed his mask and gloves to his skeleton.
“She’s captured.”
“What do you mean?”
“You’ll understand when you get there.” Angie wasn’t sure how to explain it all. Too many things have passed, and time wasn’t always on their side. Larsen made it much more challenging to pull Snow out, creating an annoying problem. “Are you going to help me save her or what?”
“Yes.” Both Mike and Dairen replied simultaneously. Though they didn’t like Angie’s tone of voice.
“Good, come on.” Angie turned around, already heading towards their destination.
Mike and Dairen followed next to her, bombarding her with questions.
“Where is she?” Dairen asked he was peeling off the yellow jacket. “Is she okay?”
“Right now, she’s at the safest point in the ship.”
Mike asked. “There is a safe place?”
“The center of the ship. Snow has basically become the core to power up this ship.”
Both Mike and Dairen halted, shocked. Dairen snatched Angie’s shoulder, turning her around.
Dairen was looking at her as if she was crazy. “The core of this ship?!” His grip tightened, making Angis yelp in pain.
“They are using her as a magic conductor and fueling this ship. It’s why we can lift up in the air.” Agnis pried off Dairen’s hand. Tears started to drip on her face. “I told her I would take her place, but she wouldn’t let me.” A whimper slipped out of her mouth.
“That’s Snow for you.” Mike sighed. “I wouldn’t be surprised if she threw herself in front of an oncoming train or something to save our lives again. She seriously needs to figure out that her life is just as important.”
“Like that’s going to happen.” Dairen snorted, still annoyed.
“But, a ship’s core? Did she have that much magic in the past?”
Dairen shrugged his shoulder, unable to answer his questions.
“Either way, we should hurry up and go save he-”
A heart-pounding shake threw everyone onto the ground.

Synergy
Dear Inspector, Please accept this letter as my formal resignation from being a Player. Hey! Laugh all you want, but I had to try. With no rules down here, who's to say that I can't resign? Anyway, my reasons are simple: I'm neither a gamer nor a hero. You got the wrong person for the job. Sure, the pay is decent and I could pretty much live like a king if, you know, I wasn't so busy trying to survive. I have major concerns about the demonic dagger bound to my soul too. Come to think of it, I've never asked to be transported to this fantasy land either and would like you to return me home, thank you very much. I don't want supernatural powers, I don't want to complete quests after quests, and I don't want to be your test subject anymore. What? I'm not whining, you're whining. Stop making excuses and let me leave already. Thank you for your understanding, and I hope you'll find a better replacement after I'm gone for good. Sincerely,Randel, the Mad Painter What to expect from Synergy: --> Some GameLit elements are presented subversively. If you want the protagonist to “play the game” properly, this might not be the story for you.--> No filler chapters; the story's structure is already plotted out. It's going to have six story arcs.--> Character development happens slowly, over many chapters. Don't expect a perfect protagonist right off the bat.--> Some romance, but it will never be the main focus.--> Humor and dark elements in equal measure, but not to the extent that I’d label this story as “Comedy” or “Grimdark”. ... and lots and lots of Author's Notes. See you on the other side of the portal!

Demon Hunters
Far in the future, the last two viable cities in the western hemisphere – Technoburbia and New Baravia – struggle for control over a vast and largely desolate land. Officially they are at war. In practice, the war has been a stalemate for a generation, the disputed frontier between the two city-states never moving. In the city of New Baravia itself, a vast circular concrete wall keeps its inhabitants in, and its refugees out. For its citizens, life is monotonous and unequal, with enormous wealth in the hands of nobles, criminal gangs, and entertainment bosses. It is the last of these that control the hit entertainment show, “Demon Hunters”. A chance, perhaps, for the ordinary man or woman to rise up, and change their fate... This LitRPG novella is based around a futuristic battle-royale situation, partly set in VR, and partly in a post-apocalyptic city. The story features combat and action, some strong language, and lots of great characters that will stick with you! [participant in the Royal Road Writathon challenge]
