《Angel's Song: Requiem of the Dreams》93. Circus Tent (IV)

For many, who saw the attack that Dairen had caused, they couldn’t help but think that this was possibly a second chance after death if the Resurrection skill didn’t work. But even still, such thought was squirreled away as they didn’t want to serve a master. For they saw that their freedom would be violently ripped away.
One would have thought that Resurrection and Necromancy would be the same, but the biggest difference was being alive with a free will or chained and serving a master.
Black smoke spewed out from the man’s chest, covering it completely. Rising up from the dead, an armored skeleton warrior stood in its place. Its intimidating aura made many Players shy away. Some were excited at such ability as they had all imagined what it would be like to summon up hordes of undead. Such a grandiose wet dream was a Players’ own fantastic fantasy for power, but such a dream was cut short.
A vicious scream of anguish escaped from the armored skeleton, a ghost-like body floated above. It was the previous owner’s spirit floating in the air. Black chains erupted out from the bones of the warrior, chaining its soul to the body. It forcefully dragged the spirit back into the body. The spirit screamed and shook, trying to fight against the pull, but to no avail, it could not win.
A splash of rotting smell of decay crept in the air. The skeleton warrior eyes turned eerily green, bringing it with a shuddering fear. It’s Viking-like helmet took over half of his head as its green eye peeked out through the thin slits. Thick armor made of leather and metal made one wonder how it was able to hold it up, wrapped around its body. Black flames danced around its body as it kept the bones in place.
It grabbed the sword and shield on the floor. With a deep bow, it lowered itself in front of Dairen. Dairen looked at his skeleton without any remorse.
“Your name is going to be Bo.” Dairen pointed out, his naming sense was horrible, but he didn’t care. The number of monsters that he would control would increase as time went by, and naming names for every single one wasn’t plausible. The warrior that stood in front of him was his first, giving it a value of its own.
Snow knew that this incident couldn’t be covered up. There were too many witnesses. Even Rye, who was usually nonchalant, curious gazed at him with interest. She wanted to punch him so his common sense would come back, but she knew that wouldn’t solve anything.
With her heart resolved, she closed her eyes. This was out of her hands. She was no god. Pampering her friends was going to go nowhere as they needed to learn the hard way. All she could do was watch.

Even still, there were a few players from the Heavenly guild who felt that his actions were too cruel and saw him with distaste.
“Oh?” The clown leaned forward, realizing what he had seen. “Black magic.” He gazed at Dairen with interest.
Dairen didn’t answer back. Instead, he turned his attention back at the Goblin Overlord as its bulky body loomed over him. “Let’s go.”
Dashing forward with his dagger in hand, he leaped in the air. His skeleton followed behind him with vigor, matching his stance. Both attacked at the same time, hitting the monster in an X motion. The frozen Goblin Overlord, which was temporarily frozen in place by the clown, was released.
“So, you decided to fight instead. Peculiar.” The clown observed Dairen with interest.
There weren’t many players who would stay behind by himself to fight against the monster. They would usually leave without a second thought to save their own skin. One would have said, Dairen was a self-righteous brat, while others would look at him with respect. To bring the monsters level down by one more could possibly turn the outcome, but that was not a low chance.
Quite a few players shook their heads at his decisions, while a few looked at him with more respect.
The skeleton chattered as its glowing eyes were wildly looking at the Goblin Overlord, it stomped its feet a few times, drawing the Goblin Overlord attention. An unholy shriek escaped its lips, causing everyone to snatch up their hand to their ears in pain. Even the Goblin Overlord momentarily hiccuped, bringing up his hand to stop the ringing pain.
Dairen took this chance to rush in again. A voiceless energy of black swirled around his dagger, he stabbed the Goblin Overlord on the knee, popping out its kneecap. A painful roar erupted from the monster’s lips. Collapsing onto its other leg to stabilize itself.
His dagger snaked up the side and straight to the jugular. A vicious slash crossed across its neck as green blood spurted outwards. Even still, that wasn't enough.
The Goblin Overlord waved its large hand, trying to grab Dairen legs.
With a loud clang, the sword and the Goblin Overlord hand made contact. A deep cut into the Goblin Overlord’s hand. Dairen pulled out a second dagger, he jumped. His foot pushed off the Goblin Overlord’s chest, propelling him up in the air. His dagger fell downwards with a vicious slam as it dug into the monster’s eyes as green blood squirted from impact. He jumped away as the Goblin Overlord swayed.
Boom!
The Goblin Overlord fell onto the ground dead.
Wild cheers erupted in the crowd at the exciting fight.
Dairen spat. He walked over towards the monster, raising up his hand as droplets of blood splashed onto the monster’s head.

“Rise.”
The dark energy swirled out of his hand and downwards into the body. Eventually, it swamped over the whole body. A black fire erupted as it burned the flesh away, leaving behind bones. Flash of black fire amplified, taking its place of the flesh as it clattered together like a jigsaw puzzle.
“Wh-a-aat?” The clown was stunned at what Dairen was doing. He was stealing the monster corpse that he continually resurrected to fight against the other players.
Once again, an unholy screech of pain, terror, anger, and even malice escaped from the Undead Goblin Overlord. The spirit that left came back, locking it in chains. It stood up straight. A large bulking body overshadowed the warrior skeleton. Its body had a thin sheet of black flaming skin that formed a bit of its body, but the black flames made up most of its form. A large underbite was present, where sharp teeth jutted upwards. Pointy ears, stuck out from the thick helmet, while its armor mostly covered up its body compared to Bo. It was like looking at a giant moving tank.
Dairen had to look up as he strained his neck. The Undead Goblin Overlord went on its knees to salute to its king.
“Ruff, because you remind me of my past dog.” Dairen threw out a random name.
Some of the people who heard the name twitched at his horrible naming sense.
“You can’t do this.” The clown stuttered, waving his finger that his monster was stolen from him right under his nose. “That’s mine!”
“Not anymore.” Dairen shrugged his shoulder. He lazily replied. With his hand pointing to the wall; he yelled. “Focus your attacks!”
In a brilliance of magic from both his minions, a spew of dark energy erupted on their weapons as they jumped up to hit the barrier's interior. Even Dairen dashed forward to strike alongside his own creations as he struck the barrier.
Purely by instinct, Snow and Red both shot their magic as they realized what Dairen was doing. If either one of them missed, they knew they probably wouldn’t have another chance for this attack as it was too flashy.
The clown couldn’t move as everything was happening to his fast. He stared dumbfoundedly. If it wasn’t from the shock that Dairen slain the Goblin Overlord and stolen the corpse, he would have probably come to his senses a lot quicker. But Dairen’s next brash action completely blanked out the clown’s mind by surprise.
Snow’s and Red’s magic smashed into the same area as Darien, and his minions had attacked. A spider crack spider outwards as all three of them attacked it a few more times.
Finally, the clown woke up from his daze, realizing what was happening.
“Noooooo!” The clown yelled in frustration, but before he could do anything, the outer barrier shook, sending him tumbling him onto the ground.
Everyone was confused, except for a few, wondering what was happening. Tamaki, Mike, and Audrey were already on the move as they knew that Tommy was attacking. They searched for the rough energy signature and found Tommy banging on the side, not too far away from the entrance.
All three, attacked in the hopes to bring the barrier down.
“What are you doing?!” The clown feverishly got up, he was at a loss on who he should attack first. Players and Hunters ran around, helping to bring the barrier down, even if their magic wasn’t as strong.
Until finally, the inner barrier collapsed. Dairen stepped out with a smirk on his face, passing by the clown as if he was goading the clown incompetence.
In a fury, the clown jumped up. Teeth baring at Dairen for destroying his fun. But before the clown could pounce on Dairen, Mike intercepted him and stabbed him. The clown choked in shock for his misstep, realizing that he had made a fatal mistake. Crumpling onto the ground, the clown turned into ashes.
"Well, that went better than I expected," Mike smirked, pleased with the outcome. He didn't care that Dairen had shown a different side of him. Instead, he seemed pleased.
“We aren’t done yet.”
"True, but that's one ugly monster out of the way," Mike said amused. “Sucks though he didn’t give anything.”
“Well, you were just slow.” Dairen showed Mike a small black bracelet that he had in his hand, showing it off.
"That's cheating," Mike said, he grumbled.
“Never.” Dairen laughed pleasantly. He threw the bracelet at Mike. “You’re just to slow.” His two skeletal minions disappeared into his shadows.
“Whatever, man. Just better you got it than the others.” Mike’s eyes brilliantly shined. He gratefully accepted without a single word. Pleased that Dairen hadn’t coveted the items that he had gained by killing the clown. They both had profited immensely.
“Let’s just get out of here.” Dairen and Mike rushed to assist the others.
The moment the interior barrier fell, Snow had already run over to help the others, leaving Dairen and Mike to handle the clown. She had seen Mike kill the clown, which spiraled the destruction of the circus tent to ensue.

Yin-Yang
Mages in North America seem to have it all – typically from well-off families, and able to manipulate their environment in ways most of the world would never believe. They don’t even have to bother with the mundane details of life like housework, thanks to their sensitives, who also make a useful source for extra magical energy. After all, sensitives have no use for it themselves, and if mages weren’t meant to make use of it, then the sensitives would obviously have some way to prevent that. That a mage can transform a sensitive physically, with no restrictions beyond overall mass and basic biological viability, whereas magic tends not to work directly on any other living thing, is only further proof. And look at the way they live on their own, barely a step above animals. It’s better for them to belong to a mage. Sensitives in North America live on the edge of society and survival – typically so paranoid they avoid hospitals and anything else that could lead to being tracked, many of them with little or no education and no legal identity or existence. Mages exist, and mages want sensitives for some reason, but no one ever comes back to explain what that reason is. Waiting every day for the hunters to notice them doesn’t lead to much motivation or hope for the future. And once they’re captured, they’re the property of someone with a terrifying amount of power over them. Anything is better than capture. Mages are born to be the masters, and sensitives are born victims. Or are they? Jax’s life is turned upside-down when he’s caught by the hunters and sold to a mage. Andreas is still mourning for his previous sensitive, though, unconsciously creating a difficult standard for Jax to live up to, all the more so while still struggling to come to terms with this new reality as Andreas’ sensitive. A runaway sensitive isn’t what Van expects at the mental health centre. Is this a hunter trap, set for him and the rest of the Donovan family by the hunters? The hunters would, after all, love to see them cross the line openly and finally do something they can be charged with. Either way, Miranda’s genuinely in trouble, and he can’t just abandon her to it. Snatching a sensitive out from under the hunters and hiding her is odd behaviour for a mage – but then, Catherine is an odd mage, living in disgrace in the old servants’ quarters of her grandmother’s house, responsible for cooking and housework. Lila owes Catherine her freedom; is there a way to help Catherine achieve her own, and at what price? Tension is building between traditionally-minded mages and those advocating change, and something has to break. *** Yin-Yang includes a small amount of profanity and no graphic sex or on-screen physical violence. However, sex and gender roles and relationships within the mage/sensitive subculture are non-traditional in mainstream North American terms. The key criterion in a primary relationship is not relative sex or gender, but the pairing of mage and sensitive; given the transformation of sensitives by their mages, physical sex is non-absolute for a sensitive, and gender identity can vary as in anyone else. *** *** The way mages treat sensitives is extremely varied and, in some cases is outright abusive. The struggle against that is pretty much the point of the book. It is NOT grimdark or misery-porn! However, if you will be triggered by this, please, don't read Yin-Yang! *** Complete stand-alone novel, 153K words! Also available on Scribble Hub and as a free ebook.
