《The Great legend of Fafnir: The Beginning》Chapter 24: The calm before the storm.

The heavens erupt with a loud crash of lightning. The two entities moved fluidly at the same time, clashing with their weapons with a force so strong that it would knock anything near it away with a burst of air.

Fafnir tries a straight punch, but fails as Orbus catches his first. He corrodes it with his own power shrouding fafnir's fist with a dark malefic power.

Fafnir couldn't escape his grasp. He ignites his hand with flames forcing Orbus to recoil in pain.

He rushes Orbus who is in a state of confusion. They clash blades once again, but Orbus reacts in the nick of time.

I retreat a few paces back clicking my tongue in irritation. He seems to be going all out. I sense something ominous from him.

He attempts to provoke me with words. "All this talk about being omnipotent and this is all that you can manage?" He attacks once again.

He launches another projectile made of pure dark matter. I counter by blasting it with a ball of flames, creating a fog in the room. Orbus uses this as a chance to attempt a surprise attack in which he circles around me, trying to find an opening in which he could strike.

He runs with an amazing speed as all I can see are his after images.

I manage to see him clearly with my eyes enhanced to a certain degree. I follow his movements carefully as he continues to circle me using the fog to his advantage.

There! I launch a ball of flames ahead of his direction. He falls for the bait and attacks me charging in, blade first. He stops before he rushes into the flames that I created.

I parry his attack with a similar one that Fiol used against me. I put the sword behind me as I turn my back, supporting the top part of the sword with my left arm.

He strikes the side of my sword just as I planned he would do. I spin counterclockwise swinging my sword upwards, I knock his sword away. Igniting my fist with blue flames and follow up with a swift straight punch to his body.

He takes the blow as he previously recoiled from his own attack. Orbus flies across the room, slamming into the walls, crushing it in the process.

"I'm not finished yet you insolent plebe!" I throw my sword toward where Orbus flew, and I follow shortly by leaping forward.

As Fafnir assaults Orbus with an earth shattering blow he brings the walls down with him as well. Meanwhile on the outside where the battle is taking place. A wall breaks down in an instant, rubble flies everywhere pelting unlucky victims with stones and boulders.

A large hole can now be obviously seen from the top floor of the castle. One man stands in the center of it all. His looks down on his opponent, drenched in the rain with yellow eyes of contempt and anger. His clothes and armor is in tatters, scars and wounds everywhere on his body are clearly apparent.

The storm becomes stronger, and a torrential downpour rage along the battlefield. The fighters outside halt their skirmish at the sight of what had just happened.

Camille looks to where Fafnir looks down upon. There lies a body face down on the ground along with the debris that had been broken down from the palace walls. She recognizes him. It is Orbus, he lies unconscious on the pavement.

Fafnir grabs his sword and jumps down from the massive hole that he had created on the castle wall. He lands meters away from Orbus. The tyrannical King regains consciousness. He hears footsteps approaching him. Lone footsteps, not from the ones fighting the skirmish, no. They merely watch the events unfold before them motionless.

Quickly getting back up his both legs, he realizes what had happened to him as he grimaces from the pain. He took the brunt force of the child's attack and was sent flying into the walls where he lost consciousness. Everything after that is a mystery to him.

"Damn this! A mere child pushing me back! I'll shall put you in your place insolent bastard!" Orbus ignores the pain he feels in his body. His eyes glow a full shade of black, his hands emit the same color as well. He begins to slowly levitate in the air.

His voice echoes throughout the small battlefield. "You've forced me to unveil my precipice. Know that your defeat draws near as I unleash the strength given to me by the daemons themselves."

Fafnir reacts when he hears the word 'daemons' he received his powers from a daemon? It can't be... Some pieces start falling into place, but there are some pieces that don't connect.

He glares at Orbus who floats in mid air. "Enjoy the taste of the air while you can. You won't be able to when I put you down." He draws his weapon with his right hand and ignites his left with blue flames despite the torrent continuously raining down upon them. The flames itself burn fiercely that not even the strongest of rain can extinguish them.

Orbus sends a series of projectiles flying towards Fafnir, but like water to an obstacle he dodges them all nimbly, the attacks hit the ground instead leaving a permanent engraving. Fafnir draws close and Orbus begins to grow desperate, increasing the amount of projectiles he launches towards his agile foe.

Fafnir leaps, skillfully cutting away at every projectile Orbus launches at him, he slashes at Orbus, but In a blink of an eye he disappears and Fafnir is suddenly impacted down to the ground by an unknown force.

His impact smashes the ground. Fafnir slowly gets up. He dusts his shoulder off as if nothing had happened.

The one responsible for bringing Fafnir down was Orbus. He has used one of his hidden abilities, thus giving him an edge in this battle.

Fafnir looks up and sees Orbus chanting mysterious words into the air. In a split second he begins to multiply. There are now three of them, one is legitimate while two are not. There are no differences with each copy of Orbus making it difficult to identify which is which.

The rain calms, but the downpour remains. Both are drenched but focused solely on each other.

Orbus relents as he chants yet again, but for a longer duration this time.

Fafnir takes this as an ample opportunity and strikes while Orbus stands idle.

Little did Fafnir know that the tyrannical King prepared traps near him. As he approached the traps began to activate and take form. The trap morphed into multiple dark colored circular glyphs that surrounded Fafnir in every direction. In the center was a symbol of some sort where chains made of mysterious metallic material emerged and bound Fafnir in every direction.

His arms, legs, neck and body where tied down by Orbus's daemon given powers. Fafnir now stands at the mercy of his enemy. Though Orbus still has his eyes closed, continuing to chant, Fafnir tries to break free of the chains with all his might.

He grips the chains as a last resort and begins to burn his bindings.

Orbus finishes his chant and bears witness to Fafnir, who desperately tries to burn off the chains that hold him up in the air. "Alz, mei'r, sigma!"

Fafnir clearly remembers his chant, and to his surprise some of the words are very familiar to him. He knows the words very well, but does not want to believe in his doubts. He looks at Orbus as Fafnir struggles to burn the chains.

Numerous dark spheres appear out of thin air. The spheres begin to form and take shape as Orbus molds every single one of them using his hands engulfed with his devilish mastery of the dark arts.

The rain weakens as small droplets fall instead of a raging downpour. The sky still darkens, but it's not because of the clouds that well up with water. Instead the sky is filled with strange dark objects and they scatter throughout the limitless sky.

Orbus brings his hands down toward Fafnir and the projectiles all descend with great speed. You begin to identify the mysterious objects clearly as they descend further towards their target.

Countless swords formed from the dark spheres race down towards Fafnir. "Now lay witness to the garden of creation!"

The swords of pure void strike Fafnir in every direction. The rain is instead replaced by a raging torrent of swords all being manipulated by one person. The volley of swords continues for a long time as some of the swords simply pass through fafnir's body.

Swords impale every part of fafnir's body, but he still breathes desperately. He hangs on for dear life as he is struck from his body until his toes. He managed to breathe fire in front him so that his head wouldn't be harmed from the attack. He hangs by the chains with a half dead demeanor. He looks at Orbus with misty eyes.

"Is this the end for you young child? Have you failed?" Orbus summons one more sphere of pure darkness beside him. He molds it into a sword the same as the others that are still impaled on fafnir's body.

He comes closer to him and wields his sword with two hands. He slowly plunges the sword into fafnir's chest as he draws closer. His expression hardens as he is forced to bear this pain or succumb to it. He decided not to do the latter and bear with it instead.

The sword passes through him and it is bathed with fafnir's blood. The ones fighting who spectate the battle from below watch as their king slowly murders a child. Although they know that he is no ordinary child, they still can't bear to watch such a gruesome scene.

Camille looks away, shielding her eyes to hide her tears. She wants to desperately aid Fafnir, but knows that she cannot do anything to help him.

The rest of the soldiers watch in silence as they see a power unlike any other. Unknown to them that their king possesses such strength, enough to dominate his enemies.

"Fafnir! Fight back! Don't lose heart! Let go of him you walking old relic!" Borias shouts at the top of his lungs. He draws his bow and fires three arrows consecutively towards Orbus.

He brushes them off like mere pebbles. "Weak... You are nearly nothing to me." He fires a projectile towards Borias. Unable to dodge in time he is hit with the full force the attack.

"Borias!" Camille shrieks in terror as one of her closest companions is killed right in front of her.

The ground cracks as the impact from Orbus's attack clearly shook the earth. The fog clears up and Borias's mangled body lies on the floor. He is motionless, but both eyes are open, looking into the sky. He smiles for the last time and speaks softly.

Camille hurries to his side. She knows that nothing can be done to save him. He is already on death's door. She clasps his hand as Borias tries to say something.

Fafnir looses composure as he witnesses another loss of life. He turns around, eyes wide open to see Borias nearly dead from receiving Orbus's attack. He opens his mouth to say something, but the words won't come out. Fafnir is clearly helpless as countless of blades have impaled his body. He disregards that for it seems losing someone is more painful to him than anything.

"T-tell... Fafnir to take this guy down for me. I might have not known him for so long, but I know he can do it. I know that great things will come from him just by looking at him." He tries to raise his right arm, though destroyed completely he still tries. He reaches out to Fafnir while he lies down of the ground, trying to grasp him. "You'll be legendary someday ha-ha."

With those lasts words, his arm falls down, and his voice disappears entirely. His bloodied and battered face displays a smile that could move your heart. Camille sobs quietly beside him. She whispers to herself quitely. "Rest in peace brother... You said you wanted to see a bright future for everyone even if it meant your life. You won't see it, but you tried. We are powerless, but you still stood strong against the odds."

She stands, her image is clearly a mess. Worn out from the countless of battles that she has faced with the rebellion, she stands and draws her sword pointing it at Orbus.

"I'll finish what my brother had started." He runs towards Orbus who is now standing on solid ground. Camille shouts to provide her self some strength as she rushes Orbus, clearly unimpressed with what she is trying to do.

"Futile. Those without power should only stand down and be crushed by those with power." Orbus begins chanting once again.

Camille comes in close and slashes skillfully at Orbus. Slicing left and right trying to at least injure him with one attack. Orbus simply slaps the sword away with his hand. He speeds towards Camille and holds her by the neck.

"Come sigma." A sphere is summoned beside him. He molds it into a sword once again. Camille is unable to do anything but struggle as she is at the mercy of Orbus.

He wields the sword with his open hand and draws it near camilles chest. This has happened before with Fafnir.

As the tyrannical King slowly draws the top of the blade closes to Camille's body, he suddenly hears a sound of a chain being broken.

He stops what he was doing and turns his attention to where he bound Fafnir in chains. He is not there anymore. Instead he feels a presence behind him. He slowly turns around and realizes who it is.

It is the child. His eyes are bloodshot, his body still impaled by the swords. His fist burns with a bright blue flame. He sees it run through... Him?

He quickly looks at his chest, and there is a bloodied hand burning with blue flames. Orbus remarks. "You... Heathen!"

"I'll shall waste no other words for you any longer except this last farewell..." Fafnir pulls out his hand and now grips Orbus's head with it. "Burn for all eternity for the future of the people are not yours to decide any longer!" He incinerates Orbus from head to toe until nothing remains.

He shouts in pain and agony, but Fafnir looks at him without mercy. Orbus tries to fight back by chanting, but fails as he stutters from being burnt alive. He then tries to strangle him with his hand, but Fafnir breaks his arm, forcing Orbus to recoil with twice the pain.

He burns to ashes, and his screams disappear... Forever. The swords impaling Fafnir disappear as well. The skies begin to clear and the light pieces the clouds, creating beams of light from the heavens.

Fafnir falls to his knees, then finally on the ground. Camille sits on the ground as she was released from Orbus's grasp when Fafnir intervened.

He blacks out...

The entire city of Zarakiol the capital city of Vasantria stood silent while the battle between Orbus and the rebellion raged on. They all emerge from their homes as the daylight shines upon a new future waiting to be created.

2 days after the battle ended, the people who supported Orbus in his regime surrendered peacefully. His advisors revealed the truth about Orbus's deceit and lies. The people took this badly as they all assumed and believed that the previous royal family died because of their unanimous decision. They cried out when they knew this as the Du Leroux royal family gave them so much as brothers and sister of Vasantria.

They hailed Nerian and pleaded for his forgiveness. Every single citizen of Zarakiol who condemned the royal family also loved them in return. They felt betrayed when the lies started to spread, thus their feelings drastically changed. They loved the Royal family as their own friends and sometimes family, but it was already too late to realize that lies and naïveté were the root of the problem.

Nerian accepted their forgiveness with open arms, saying. 'Come. Let us rebuild a new future, one where everyone will live happily.'

The rebels and the soldiers that spectated the battle between Orbus and Fafnir also become a widespread topic. Nearly everyone was talking about him from the time they were about to be executed, and until the time where he defeated Orbus. Rumors never stopped developing about how he was a champion sent by the gods to punish them for their sins, but no one has yet to know for Fafnir still remains unconscious.

The townspeople quickly helps to rebuild the place that was decimated in the battle. Zarakiol started its reform with Nerian immediately ascending the throne. Vasantria rebuilt what it could for the moment. Economy was crumbling and the rest of the military still in disarray as some who served Orbus still remains loyal to him.

The rest of Vasantria was informed of what had happened to Zarakiol. The news of a new king sitting on the throne made the rest of Vasantria lively one again. They are free of the corruption that once ravaged their kingdom.

The prisoners who were wrongly accused were freed from the prisons.

Another day passes and Nerian begins to grow concerned. Fafnir has yet to wake up. Will he ever open his eyes? He fears for the worst as he and his sister witnessed the battle from palace's top floor. He knows what Orbus did to Fafnir and Borias.

Inside the cage that Orbus had in the large chambers was his sister. There he found her imprisoned.

Nerian paces around the room where Fafnir lies on the bed unconscious. His wounds were fatal when he was first brought here. Some of the doctors said that he was beyond saving, but after a day's time his wounds healed miraculously, but the traces of scars remained on his body. Yet after that he still has not awakened.

A child almost as tall as Fafnir enters the room where Nerian waits impatiently. "Your unrest is contagious brother. Please calm down. I have brought you something to drink. Warm tea."

Nerian stops his worry as he sees his sister enter the room. "Charlotte! You've come? I'm sorry. I just can't seem to calm down. What if he never wakes up? He saved this kingdom by taking on the burden of the fight. He didn't have a reason to fight with us, yet he did. I don't think he is from Vasantria even."

Nerian sits down as Charlotte offers Nerian something to calm his nerves. The girl wears simple clothing. A brown gown with a tunic, and a long skirt. She has a short brown hair and blue eyes to match with her fair but beautiful face. She displays a calming aura with her demeanor.

"I still cannot believe someone like him could have changed Vasantria so much. We are of the same height and he is only a year older than me yet he has done a great feat." Charlotte talks out loud about what she has thought about Fafnir when she first saw him battle Orbus 2 days ago.

"Truly amazing isn't it? Who knew he was the one destined to save us and Vasantria in just a few days. I met him in the dungeons where I was being imprisoned. At first I thought that he was merely a normal child who was separated from his parents, but it seems he's gone through a lot."

They both look at the half naked Fafnir who has a chiseled well built body but a body covered in various scars and wounds. Some look terribly fatal.

"Charlotte... Uhm I wanted to ask your opinion about something if it's alright with you."

She turns around with a confused face. His brothers atmosphere changes in a somewhat serious one.

"What would you like to talk about?" She sits beside Nerian.

"What do you think of the idea of marrying, having someone to marry in the future?.. You know, like a fiancée."

"Charlotte opens her eyes in clear surprise. Flustered she puts both hands on her mouth to hide her embarrassment. "A F-fiancée? But why? Isn't it too early to think about that? It's just that... Uhh.. I don't think."

Nerian interrupts. "Well I won't force you, but what do you think about the idea?"

"I don't think anyone would like to have me as a fiancée. I become too embarrassed at times, I'm shy around strangers and I always stutter when I speak because im not used to it."

"Haha I'm surprised that you didn't know that you had a small fan club of boys just lining up to talk to you and court you. They found your personality quite cute and charming as I do."

"What! No... That's uhh uhh. Ah~"

"It's fun to tease you and all Charlotte, you're cute that way, but sometimes you turn red all of a sudden. Like a... Yeah like a tomato."

"A tomato?" Charlotte turns even redder as Nerian continues to tease her.

He continues with the previous conversation. "Going back to our previous conversation. What do you think of having a fiancée?"

"... I can't decide yet. I don't think I'm prepared for that, but when the time comes... I'll be prepared... I think."

"Ha ha. That's my cute little sister! Go for it! I know you can do it." Nerian ruffles Charlotte's short soft hair.

Charlotte gets up and becomes curious. She examines Fafnir a bit closer. She bends her body down beside him and looks at something that's on his faded golden hair.

The door opens and Alfreed comes in. "How is the child doing master Nerian?"

The sound of the door opening wakes the sleeping child.

He suddenly springs up... He bumps onto something or someone as he feels a soft sensation on his lips. The soft feeling goes away and he opens his eyes, clearing his sight with a few blinks.

He looks around the room and sees two familiar faces. "Nerian, Alfreed Is that you?"

Nerian has a face of a proud brother. "Woah! Will you look at that. Fafnir! You're awake!"

Alfreed has his eyes wide open. He takes his glasses off and wipes it, wearing it again. He's not mistaken. "I will let myself out master Nerian." Alfreed exits.

Fafnir notices someone else in the room. "Who are you?"

The one he notices is a girl who has a flustered expression. She has her hand on her lips. Her eyes are open in shock as she looks at Fafnir. The mysterious girl slowly turns red.

"What's wrong? Is there something on my face?"

The girl quickly opens the door and runs away. Did I do something wrong? But what was that soft sensation I felt on my lips? I don't think food can feel that soft. So what is it exactly.

All that remains in the room is a newly awakened Fafnir and Nerian who grins from ear to ear.
