《Ascend》Chapter 42. Eggs

Chapter 42. Eggs "Where am..? Oh yeah, the tunnel, ants." My breath was heavy and there wasn't much on my mind at the moment. I even forgot where I was for a second. Dead ants lay around me, covering me and the ground in a greenish-yellow substance. Their blood, I presume. I was in a trance as fought them, not even noticing that so many of them had gathered. They were trying to stop me as I tried to go in deeper. It was a measure to prevent me from entering further into their hive, and now they were all dead. I sat leaning against a wall, still covered in blood but I really needed to take a breather for now. Blood mage leveled up eight times while Demon fighter did not even level up once after all this massacre. I assumed that it would once again start leveling up after Blood level catches up to it. Almost every skill of my first class was maxed out and was sitting level 25, while the active skills were a little behind but it wouldn't be long before they were up there. I rested for a bit and when my breath was even I once again started heading deeper into the tunnel. I didn't need to walk too deep in as I reached an occupied room. But not with ants, but with eggs. They were what I would imagine an ant egg would like if it was one foot and half tall. I walked up to one and poked it with Thorn. The egg broke and a slimy substance flowed out, but I was not surprised by that. The thing that drew my attention was the alert. [Killed a Mutated Ant(F-grade).] This egg was considered a monster. It wasn't even technically alive at the moment but it was still considered a monster. 'This makes my work so much easier.' I left those eggs as they were for now and walked through the other opening which was on the opposite side of the room. This tunnel was wider than the previous ones. Ad even after walking for a few minutes, it didn't separate. It was just one long path. No more ants came to stop me after that bloodbath. I was wondering if this even ended but there was a need to do that anymore because it looks like I have just intruded into the queen's room. The room was covered in mana crystals and these were huge, brighter than ones throughout the 'anthill'. And the queen was there looking at me. But it couldn't move, as it was still in the process of laying eggs. It screeched as I came closer but could do nothing. *Just spare the poor thing, it's defenseless.* ^Kill it slowly for the trouble it has caused.^ "Shut up," I said to the queen and the voice inside my head. [Killed an Ascended Beast. Experience gained.] [Bonus experience for killing a beast two tiers above you.] "This isn't right." This ant shouldn't be an 'Ascended Beast', it isn't strong. I was walking back towards the construction area, going through the notifications I received after killing the Queen Ant. But I still couldn't understand how this was possible. Well, it somewhat made sense if you consider that the eggs it lays were F-grade itself. The newborn ants should be E-grade, and the mature ones were D-grade. But it was just so.... easy. Anyway, from this, I was able to draw two conclusions. One, that there was C-grade or B-grade. You 'Ascend' after D-grade. Two, that strength was not equivalent to that of your current level, there were many other factors that were in play. I was the prime example of that. "Oh my god! What happened to you?" "What?" I asked after Garry came up to me in shock. "What? You are covered in green stuff, scars, and blood. Any sane person would react like how I did." "Oh," I looked down and that really was the case. I wasn't exactly hurt as clot and blood recovery were working full time, they almost felt like cheat skills after using them so much. "Just some ants, Big ones." Garry just kept on staring, not expecting me to reply in a carefree manner. "Still, we've progressed a lot," I said glancing toward a big building and towering fences that were still being erected. "We could work faster but everyone wanted to put in extra care while building the inner city. They wish to build one of the grandest cities on this planet, that is the plan at least." "How long until we are ready to accommodate everyone?" "We'll finish the basic structure of the fence by tomorrow morning and then we can start moving everyone. I'll be done with my work by the night." "Nice I have something interesting to show you," I said with a smile. But my action scared Garry as he gulped after turning around. I walked into a tent and checked my status, it had changed a lot in the past few days. ----------- [Status] Name: Ray Species: ??? Bloodline: Demon of ???
