《Insignia》"The Phantom" Ch 144. The coinflip

The ring counts to 0 and shatters. Sole launches backward, and shrinks to normal size. The watch restricted his power to his normal state, and Pakio forced all the mana to vacate his body. Sole lies on the floor with several holes through his body. Arthur snaps his fingers, causing daggers to form and stab into every one of the fighters, and when they do, they absorb into their skin and perform basic healing.
--- Chapter 144 ---
Medics enter the arena and begin to apply healing magic. Red Stumbles over to Arthur, who is now conversing with the nobles.
Red: So what now. You won.
Arthur: And you lost. So the Elune members will be brought to prison, and Luna returned to the Fullheart family.
Red: Please sir, I dragged everyone into this!
Arthur: And now you will drag them down with you.
Red: Please, let them go! Only imprison me.
Arthur: Your that low, that you would go against your own rules?
Red: …
Arthur: That’s what I thought.
Red: How about this! We flip a coin, and if I guess right, you let us go-
Arthur: No.
Red: … Are you scared?
Arthur is visibly annoyed.
Arthur: I won’t let you go on a coinflip. You have already sunken so low, I feel it’s my own duty to not allow you to sink even lower.
Elias stumbles over, hanging on Red for support.
Elias: Flip a coin. If you get heads, all of Elune is imprisoned. Tails, just the fighters in this ring go to jail, and Luna can go back to Elune.
Arthur: Even you? … Asher, coin.
Asher Estiemont, Champion of house Estiemont. The Estiemont’s are the ones who own the jails, and the jails are deemed the safest in the world. He hands Arthur a gold coin. One side has a profile engraving of Arthurs father, and the other is a detailed dragon.

Arthur: On a dragon, you are the only one to go to jail, and an Uther II, you all go to jail.
Charles Fullheart: My lord, you can’t be serious! You just won! Why would you be so careless to settle it on a coinflip-
Arthur: Silence!
Charles: …
Arthur looks back at Elias and Red.
Arthur: Does that sound fair?
Red nods.
Arthur flips the coin into the sky. Half of Elunes fate was put onto a coinflip. Fear and anticipation course through Red’s veins. Tumbling, spinning, tumbling, spinning. What were only seconds felt like minutes, until it finally hit the ground.
Dragon.
Red was filled with joy, but then realization. He would be imprisoned. But relieved that Luna would be safe. Arthur walks into the middle of the arena.
Arthur: Attention, I have made my decision. The members of Elune that were not present in my combat, and Luna of house Fullheart, will be free to go. And the ones I did fight, will be incarcerated for five years. And if any of the Elune members attempt to break out, or break out their allies, they are to be swiftly incarcerated.
Confusion goes through the crowd, and murmurs silently judge.
Arthur: If there is an issue, speak before me now, or forever hold your peace.
The crowd goes silent.
Arthur: As I thought.

They are escorted into the prison. Due to Sole’s critical condition, he was taken to a different location for recovery. Red, Elias, and Hiro are brought to the men’s ward, and Ame to the women’s. When they arrived, a man used his arcana, which caused a head, torso, and arms to come out of his stomach. This second human sealed their abilities away. Elias and Hiro were taken to the infirmary for further treatment, and Red was brought to his holding cell.

Ephraim the Relentless’ time is near, and his death will create a gaping hole in the Empire’s defenses. If left unattended, the Beast Alliance will push deeper into human territory, thereby destroying the decades of peace the Central Territories have seen.
