《Insignia》"The Tenyi" Ch 51. The lost

Eventually they are all frozen. He then guides them, carrying the dead bodies to a new door, to which he unlocks with his symbol. Almost like a morgue, it's freezing cold. They put the bodies on trays and slide them into steel containers. The master closes them, and locks them up with the symbol. A weird black marking crawls along the newly closed containers, as a seeming defense system. They leave this place closing and locking the doors behind them. And return to the surface layer of the hall.
--- Chapter 51 ---
Luna, still in shock, begins to talk with Ame and Elias. They are in the main hall, and Luna looks over and sees red sitting alone. There's a sense of mourning across his face. He gets up and walks into the hall. Luna starts to follow him. He heads into the medical ward and goes into a room. Luna has seen this room before, there are always fresh flowers on the table next to the door. Luna walks towards the door and reaches for the knob.
Mave: I wouldn't do that.
Luna jumps, startled as she thought she was alone. Mave stands there in her normal clothes holding her teddy bear in one hand and a comic in the other. Luna looks back towards the door, peering through a little metal grate on it. There seems to be an unconscious girl laying on the bed. Reds head is buried in the covers, apparently crying, grabbing the cloth tightly.
Luna: Who is she?
Mave: Kena.
Luna: What happened to her.
Mave: … When Red was younger, and new to the guild, he had two friends, Hiro and Kena. They were about the same age, and the only ones that didn't pick on Red for starting fights he couldn't win. Well, Hiro would, but in a friendly way. Whenever he lost a fight, she would be the first one to tend to his wounds, at least the best she could.

Luna: She seems really kind… but-
Mave: One day Red was on a mission with Hiro and Kena. They were escorting a parcel when they were jumped by bandits. They fought but they couldn't do anything. That's when Red unleashed the true power of his Insignia. With this he was able to take out the bandits, but at that point, he was no longer “Red”. Red attacked her, severely wounding her, but she didn't give up on him. Regardless of physical damage she didn't let go of him, she kept trying to bring him back. She eventually did, but at that point, the damage was done. They rushed her back to the guild and Cari treated her. This was 6 years ago. And she hasn't woken up since.
Hiro comes into the area.
Hiro: That's why delivery quests now have a mandatory A rank mage. Red carries this burden. He blames himself for what had happened. For what happened when became that thing. No matter what anyone says, he still carries the burden alone. I- I’m at fault too!
Hiro begins tensing up, clenching his fist.
Hiro: I just stood there, scared. I didn't do anything, to bring him back or save her! I was- frozen.
Luna: Hiro-
Mave: When Red joined here, he was ok at piano, but Kena encouraged him. He practiced every day to impress her. Even more so after it happened. He wants to impress her when she wakes up… When he practices, it's almost customary to have listeners. Like a way of paying respects…
Luna: That's why he was playing piano that night…
The door clicks and opens. Red stands in the doorway, a shadow over his eyes. He closes the door and begins walking straight. Luna moves out of his way, as it looks like he wasn't going to stop. He walks past Hiro and leaves. They go about their day, though the spirits were low. Red wasn't seen again that day, as he retreated to his room. As they get in bed for the night, Luna grabs her Diary.

Mom, Dad, today was rough to say the least. A good friend of mine is in pain, and I can't do anything about it. But, I feel jealous. Why do I feel so jealous? God, I'm so selfish. I could really use some advice, so much has happened, too much. I miss you.
Luna waves her ball of light away, causing it to disappear. She tucks the book in a droor, and turns in for the night. As she fades into sleep she finds herself in a dark room.
Luna: Hello? Hello?! Is anyone there?!
She turns around, face to face with a red dragon. Fear overtakes her as it releases a howl. She juts up from her bed and starts breathing heavy.
Luna: Just a nightmare.
Luna hears footsteps outside her room. She slowly tip toes to the door and opens it. It's Red. She follows quietly behind. He reached the main room, it was oddly quiet. Reds insignia glows, he closes his eyes. He puts his hand under his blonde bangs, pushing his hair up and back, revealing, glowing, red, eyes.

The Cosmic Interloper
Synopsis: A cyborg transhuman escapes her corporate indenture and through unfathomably unlikely circumstances, she ends up in a fantasy world of full of unique magic, angry people with sharp implements, and the whole flavor-spectrum of divine entities. Hilarity ensues. Features: - No blue boxes or cultivation, this is not a LitRPG nor about martial arts - Hard-ish Sci-Fi meets hard-ish magic - Generally trying to keep this "rational" Rationale: My primary goal with The Cosmic Interloper is to write something that I myself would enjoy reading. Of course, that’s not the only motivation, but I think it’s the most important one for me to keep in mind, especially as the author. In fact, this whole story came about because after consuming oodles of fiction, I found myself craving a very specific type of story which I couldn’t find many examples of. Then I asked myself, “why not write it myself?” and here we are. Disclaimer: In general, while I’m not writing a comedy, I do intend for this story to be funny and a bit wacky or absurd. That said though, I am using this story as a vehicle to explore some potentially dark topics including (but not limited to) slavery, speciesism/racism, and existential questions of self, consciousness, and identity. Still, I’m going to leave the “traumatizing content” tags off, because I don’t feel that what I’ve written so far (or plan on writing) exceeds the threshold that would be necessary for me to tag it thusly. Also, [insert your favorite boilerplate “views expressed” disclaimer here]. I shouldn’t need to say this, but the main character can be wrong on occasion (gasp!) and the way she views the world is not the objective truth (if such a thing even exists).
