《My Little Husky Assistant》Chapter 4: the VSO Headquarter

"Perhaps, your skill is naught but an empty hollow shell and your mushy brain is hidden in the calf of your knee," Nobara insulted with her murdering glare while drinking her cup of tea with her right leg crossed the other.
"Indeed, and so I- I'm not a fool!" Cried Yuu as he realised that Nobara was insulting him, "you see, I'm cursed. I was sold at a cheap price due to the lethal calamity I brought to every buyer and most of them were females, died either in a car crash or hit by a car. I bit your breast just to make you aware of the car which almost hit you. You should thank me for saving your life!"
Nobara stared at him with her sleazy panda eyes while raising her eyebrows meaning that she wasn't concerned. Without further utterances, she stood from her wooden chair and got herself ready. She instructed Yuu to make some breakfast for her as she needed them to fill in her growling ravenous tummy. Yuu didn't know how to cook hence didn't know what to do. A shadowy figure appeared behind him, then he turned and jumped in an instant. The figure was a figure of a handsome man in black Victorian era suits wearing a pair of black frame glasses. He was a few inches taller than he did. He glared at the figure as it started to move, then took a saucepan, spatula and prepared some ingredients such as salt, a dozen eggs, rice and more.
Yuu scrutinized every ingredient prepared on the black marble counter table with his big and round eyes with dotted single iris like a character in a cartoon and blinked them. The butler man put his right hand on his chest then slowly shrunk into a black shadow. Yuu saw a red hardcover thick book situated among the ingredients. There were a series of letters arranged in three straight lines but he couldn't read what they meant. He thought that the book might be a spell book which could break his curse and so he intriguingly opened the book and sought for a page which could be his answers.

The texture of the paper was smooth and he could see the ray of light reflected on random parts. Every page had a picture of a queer looking food on the top of the paper and surrounded by series of paragraphs. Nobara went to the kitchen while rubbing her wet hair with her soft pastel purple towel. She watched him reading the red book which was filled with guidelines for cooking breakfast.
She chortled then burst into laughter. Yuu directed his eyes to her who was laughing, filling her heart with satisfaction. She walked to him with her teary eyes and Yuu glared at her with exasperation.
"You don't know how to read, don't you?" Nobara teased him.
"Wha- what?! Of course I do! I just don't recognise them," Yuu's bashful face turned bright red.
"It's not a magic book, it's a cooking guideline. Forget about breakfast, let's head to a restaurant, shall we? But first, transform yourself into a dog," Nobara swatted the back of his head with her hand.
Yuu doubted but didn't refute.
They went to a luxurious restaurant where its entrance was heavily adorned with golden baroque ornaments and friezes on top. The red varnished wooden doors were then opened by a bald man in black suits. Nobara smiled at the man then entered.
"Wait, miss! Pets are severely restricted to enter this restaurant," admonished the man, terminating her from entering.
"Ara Ara, really?" Nobara glared at Yuu, "can you please keep him for a while? You know the consequences of losing him and you don't want that, right?"
Pleaded Nobara with her beautiful princess eyes. The man's face turned red then immediately agreed. He took the cord connected to Yuu's collar and grasped it. Nobara grinned at Yuu then waved him goodbye. Yuu was annoyed that he started barking continuously then his voice faded as the doors were closed.
Yuu barked and barked at the entrance, gaining a great number of audience from his surroundings. The man who guarded him picked him up then embraced him. Yuu howled and whined melancholically waiting for Nobara whereas Nobara enjoyed her feast on one of the round dining tables inside the restaurant. She could hear Yuu's soft howl but she pretended not to.

_______________
Yuu stuck his tongue out even with his human body as Nobara drove her car at constant but fast speed. He looked at the urban scenery of tall skyscrapers with different geometrical architecture. He howled like a dog then continued sticking his tongue out. Nobara massaged her forehead with one of her hands, witnessing his dog-like behaviour even with the body of a handsome prince.
"Whooohoo! Nobara-sama, are we there yet?" He asked then howled as he saw a female dog from a car approaching from behind abreast their car.
"He isn't a werewolf prince, but a dog," Nobara droned to herself.
Nobara turned the steering wheel anticlockwise as she saw a junction with a green long cuboid diamond grit signboard stood at its side. A hundred metres from the junction, there stood a deserted wooden farm.
Nobara parked her car under a huge fringed tree. Yuu was enchanted by the fascinating huge trunk of the tree. It was as big as the huge camphor tree from 'Tonari no Totoro'. Nobara took out a card with golden laces at the lower part from her red purse then inserted it into a thin single stripe on the trunk of the tree. Yuu could hear the beeping sound of the card being accepted. He transformed into a husky then hopped onto Nobara as the ground underneath his feet shook. There was a round secret entrance then its door opened like blades swirled then shrunk and vanished into the wall.
There was a swirling wooden staircase which led them deep down into the ground. Yuu was terrified because of the height then barked. Nobara stepped down the staircase and they could hear the sound of her high heel shoes knocking the wooden stair.
"Nobara-sama, what is this place?" Yuu asked.
"Interesting, you can speak even in dog's form. This is the headquarters of the secret organisation I've been working with, VSO. But the letters I received recently aren't from this organisation," Nobara replied.
"Woof woof?" He barked.
"It's an acronym, which stands for the Organisation of Vampire Slayer," she replied.
"Don't understand the dog's language, eh?" Teased Yuu with a doggy grin.
"Stop acting like Toto or I'll slay you instead!" She growled.
Yuu swallowed his saliva then laid his head on Nobara's shoulder and whined. She walked through the silent hallway. Each side of the walls of the hallway were filled with a series of huge framed photos of elder man and woman in dark coloured suits. Each golden frame had a unique lace and each pattern of laces presented different coded letters indicating their achievements in the past. The hallway was lit with hanging amber crystal lamps and its floor was covered with black tiled marble.
At the end of the hallway, there was a metal door with a huge metal wheel attached to it. Yuu looked at it and grinned at the thought that Nobara would have insufficient energy to twist the wheel. Nobara inserted her card from before into a thin vertical strip on the metal frame of the door. The glass dragon head beside the stripe flashed green light accompanied by a bell sound. The metal wheel turned anticlockwise completing one revolution within approximately 30 seconds.
The door opened inward. Yuu was astonished that he showed a surprise cartoon face; his jaws were widely opened in a vertical cuboid shape, his eyes were wide open but had no iris and trickles of sweat stuck on his forehead. Nobara lifted her right foot as soon as she entered the court.

Draugr Cell //Layer 01-- Investiture:
With the end of the only war to ever reach mainland Australia I found myself living out of a small room in an old military compound that had been handed over to the jurisdiction of the Department of Veterans Affairs. The end of the war, unfortunately, didn't mean the end of hostilities. The terrorism trend that had started back in the early 2000's with the attack on the world trade center over in America, had spread to just about every country on the face of the planet. Over time the constant threat from various groups meant the civilian police force was quickly undermanned, under equipped, and overwhelmed. They were simply unable to respond to the daily threats in any reasonable time frame, and in many situations lacked the both the skills and equipment required to deal with the threats to put them down in a 'safe' and expedient manner. Veterans of the war that were being reintegrated into society however, were just about everywhere, all the time. We have the training and the skills required to deal with just about any threat you care to mention, all we needed was access to the equipment to do so. In a world first, under the new Veterans program, the Australian government had taken the rather controversial step of allowing specifically selected veterans to go armed in public. Sure, with Australian weapons laws being very, very strict there were a number of hurdles to get over first, but that's where the selection part comes in. Tangentially that's actually how I met Brianna, my current partner. We work as ringers in Victory City, I thought being thrown into imptomtu combat operations and risking my life on a daily basis for barely livable wages was excitement enough. Then I met her... it... I don't know. An AI unlike anything else out there has wedged itself into my life and decided it needs to... look after me. What could possibly go wrong? **** This is the first book I have released, and my first entry into a cyberpunk universe. There is minimal drug use, a fair amount of sex, a bit of gory violence, and a sultry AI that has decided the main character needs a harem.
