《Into Nothing》149 // Shilling Pills

"Oh, it's you from the other week," the shop owner said. "We're still out of any restoration medicine."
"Good," Aleister said as he walked up to the counter.
"As I said, it might take a few months—wait, did you say good?"
"Yes." Aleister opened his bag and pulled out five glass bottles full of white pills. "You being out of restoration medicine is why I'm here."
"You want me to purchase these from you?" The shop owner chuckled. "Don't make me laugh. Why would I do such a thing?"
"Because you're out and it would be good for your business if you weren't?"
"I can consume one in front of you right now if you wish."
"I'll trust your word for now. Especially since I've gotten a good look at your face. Now, how much did you say you wanted to sell these restoration capsules for again?"
"For a batch of one-hundred pills, I will charge you fifteen gold. If you wish to bulk purchase more than, of course, I am willing to reduce the price for you," Aleister said.
He spent over two thousand gold in the past week purchasing all the herbs and ingredients he could get his hands on. By the end, he created fifty-thousand minor restoration pills. Even now, it was an inconceivable number of pills to him. However, there was a downside. The effect of each pill was fairly weak, only being just good enough, with two pills having to be consumed at a time for the optimal effect. In addition, the effect wasn't instantaneous and would take up to half an hour for it to work as intended.
"So if I want one-thousand pills, how much would you charge?"
"I think one-hundred and twenty gold should be more than a reasonable price."

"You're willing to depart with that many pills for so cheap? And they don't have the Mirrored Tower sticker on the bottle either."
"That's because they don't come from there, they came from me."
"They came...from you?"
"Yes, as in I was the one who created them, which is part of the reason, they're so cheap. And don't assume they aren't effective. They are, but you don't need to pay for any additional travel and export costs since I'm a local source."
"And what if these pills don't work as advertised?"
"You know what I look like, right? And besides, as I said, I'm local, so I have a shop located in the Sword Ward, so if you ever have any issues, you know where to find me."
"Do you sell these pills at your own store?"
"Yes, and I plan on having them sold at various other shops across the city."
The shop owner crossed their arms and thought about his proposal.
Aleister didn't feel like doing any hard bargaining, so if this shop owner didn't accept his deal, then he would just go elsewhere.
"I can depart with one-hundred twenty gold for now, but let's just say I sell out of these. Do I have to purchase them from your shop to replenish my stock?"
The shopkeeper pretended as if he and his customers held a minimal interest in these items, even questioning if he would run out, but even an infant could tell how poor his acting was.
"Yes, but you won't have to purchase them for their sale price. You can send whoever you wish to purchase these pills from my shop as long as they carry one of these with them."
Aleister pulled out a silver crescent moon medallion from the bag. He finally asked Luo Yun to put those blacksmith skills of his to good use. Unfortunately, the special glass bottles he asked for would take much longer to create due to him being out of practice.

"Same price as today?"
"Of course."
"And let's just say, for some reason, I wanted the exclusive selling power of these pills?"
"My primary purpose for these pills isn't to make money, but to help people as much as possible," Aleister said with a smile. "If I wanted to maximize my profits, in the current state we're in, I would have charged you a much more exorbitant price or sold them exclusively at my shop."
The shopkeeper thought about it for a moment before walking into the back of their shop. They came out a minute later with a rather bulky coin pouch.
"I'll purchase one-thousand of your pills right now. As for any more, we'll have to see how well these sell."
"Of course." He took out the forty-five more bottles from his bag and placed them on the counter before the shopkeeper handed him the coin pouch.
"All one-hundred and twenty gold coins are in there. You can count them if you wish."
"No need, I trust you. It was my pleasure doing business with you," he said before leaving the shop.
"That went well," Syn said.
Aleister sighed and rested his hand behind his head, traveling to his next destination. "Only forty-nine thousand more pills to go."
"Yes, but only ten to twenty shops for you to travel to isn't that bad. You can knock through that tonight or by the end of tomorrow."
"I suppose so."
"Then why do you sound so tired?"
"Once I'm done peddling my product, I have to go and produce even more pills, so I have enough back stock. However, I only have one-thousand gold of material left, so that should be another twenty-five thousand pills, which is an additional three days."
"What's the problem?"
"I'm so sick of crafting potions and pills. It's all I've done for the past month. I haven't spent any time learning new spells."
"It's normal that you feel this way, but think about this, you're already at the end, and you don't need to craft those pills straight away. In fact, I'll recommend against it, because if your heart and soul aren't into it, then what you create will be of lesser quality. So after tomorrow, take a break for a day, relax, and come back invigorated and move on to learning spells for the next few days. Besides, all of those pills will take time to sell. I wouldn't worry about it for at least the next two months."
"The problem is that I can't relax."
