《Into Nothing》117 // Ideas For the Alchemy Shop

Aleister sighed. "Syn, please explain to me how I already have so many responsibilities?"
"What responsibilities? As of now, you have nothing urgent to do or take care of. You aren't in charge of governing the Empire or maintaining good relations between various trading partners? Training some people for a couple of days is nothing. And like the boy said, this will be good for you."
"Just let me complain." Aleister groaned and reached for the door. However, it opened from the inside first.
"Young master! I haven't seen you since Master invited me to watch your fight against that dwarven lady a few nights ago, so I was worried sick that you ended up mortally injured. Especially since I haven't seen Master during this time as well. But since you're here, I'm glad you 're okay. And, your battle was intense. I can't believe you aren't a Weaver. Truly I don't know if I could have done better myself. I ended up—"
"Please take a deep breath before you pass out," Aleister said. Sweat dripped down her hair and splattered across the white tiles. Her red face grew slightly ashen as her rested hands shook uncontrollably. "I can practically hear your heart beating."
Myra nodded and took in several deep breaths, allowing the color to return to her face. "Sorry. I was just working on my daily exercises."
"Well, then don't let me stop you."
"Would you like to join?"
Aleister thought about it for a second but ultimately refused. "I would love to, but I have a lot of stuff to take care of."
"Oh. That's fine I expected as much."
"Don't have too much fun." Aleister waved.
Myra started at his face and tilted her head sideways.

"Do I have something on my face?"
"No. I think your eyes changed color?" she asked.
"Really?" Aleister went to touch his eye, but stopped because that was a dumb idea. "I don't think I'm wearing contacts right now, but maybe I am."
"Oh. That makes sense then." Myra nodded her head and ran off without saying another word.
"You should have joined her," Syn said as Aleister entered the manor. "You might still have some injuries, but you can only rest for so long. Besides, I swear you're always resting and never running."
"Of course it will feel that way when all I did was run and train for what—three months straight? Anything compared to that will always feel like I'm doing less."
Aleister walked past another house servant and entered his room. He tossed the file onto his table.
"You aren't going to look take a look at two of your future disciples?"
"I don't know if I would call them disciples, but besides a skim through I'll do in the morning, not really. I won't really get a feel for them unless I get to look at them and then ask them a few basic questions. Besides, I need to get start creating a bunch more potions and pills. Can't have a shop unless I have items to sell."
"So you're cutting the middle woman and taking full control of this? Selling potions in an open market is much easier than managing a shop. You will have not only your name but also Luo Yun's name attached to each item you sell, so it can only be of the best quality."
"Obviously. And I'm not going to cut Phisvaelte out, instead I'll just make her the manager of the shop. I can't spend all of my time there after all. Besides, she's been of help, and I can't imagine how much stress she has upon her shoulders knowing that someone has kidnapped her husband and then coerced her children into paying a ransom to save him."

"Fair enough. What potions do you plan on selling?"
"I'm not entirely sure yet. Maybe I could sell a bunch of poisons. There's no shortage of people looking to kill someone. In fact, I happen to be part of that market."
"Good luck getting away with that. I'm sure people will have absolutely no issue with a shop such as yours."
"I jest. But, after taking the healing potion Aunt Lavinia gave me, I now have a firsthand account of how helpful such items can be. So, I guess healing potions can be my prime good for now."
"Are you even aware of the cost of such items?"
"Exactly, no. But I'm sure I have a decent estimate of them. Besides, I don't have to make a profit for now. I have some money in reserve, and I'll have the gold from the sell of alchemical fire, and if I need to, I'll just borrow money from Luo Yun or ask Kyoko to give me a bunch of gold. Luo Yun has a vested interest in my business after all, and Kyoko obviously doesn't care about the monetary value of gold."
"Imagine not even having to build up your business. Well, glad you have a plan at least."
Aleister shrugged. "Such are the benefits of wealth. Making money when you already have money or in my case know people who are willing to lose money is much easier than starting from nothing. But, I won't even know if I'll make any money. After all, I still have no idea what the market for potions is. In that case, selling potions that can heal you or other people is quite a genius, really. Now that market is even larger than people who would purchase poison. Helping people while making money, truly my intellect cannot be contained."
"I'm sure you are not even remotely the first person to come up with such an idea."
"Obviously not, but how many people can pull it off? I have a lot of other ideas to make money, but I don't necessarily have the means of achieving them right now. In fact, this wouldn't even be a possibility for you, because I wouldn't have even thought of investing time into alchemy. It also wouldn't be possible if I wasn't in this unique position. So, we can consider this a net good."
"I remember you saying how you don't believe in karma."
"I don't, but I can't deny the existence of gods and death, now can I? Apparently my very existence as someone who studies the arcane is an insult towards them, so I have to make sure that they don't get to upset with me and smite me down with a hammer from the heavens."
"From what I know, the gods wouldn't even bother with someone as insignificant as you."
"Perfect! Guess I'm going back to selling various qualities of poisons then."
Syn rolled her eyes and ignored his remark. "In that case, I know if you've thought through the restoration potion idea entirely. The various priestess's of not only Lillium but the other gods already offer healing services for free."
