《Into Nothing》60 // Nothing Else For You To Do

"This is Lady Kyoko," Aleister said to introduce her.
"Thank you for coming to heal, my son," she said as she slightly hunched forward.
No need to thank me, madam. I'm just performing my duty as a priestess of Lillith."
With a smile she nodded, and lead them to Elemmir's bedroom.
Kyoko took one look at the boy and nodded her head.
"Do you need me to leave?" Phisvaelte asked.
"No, this will just take no longer than a few moments." She took a deep breath and pressed her hands together, keeping them a distance away from just above her chest and in front of her neck. The six-petaled lily pendant emanated a holy yellow light. Its presence dominated the surrounding space.
Kyoko chanted some words under her breath as she controlled the manifestation of light with her hands. As the light swirled around, she pointed and pressed the tip of her finger into his chest. The radiance churned Elemmir's stomach, causing him to throw up a black sludge.
She took a step back to avoid it. "Gross."
"Is that it?" Elemmir groaned. "I don't feel any better. If anything, I feel a bit worse than before."
"Of course you will, I just injected and purged your body with divine light," Kyoko said like it was common knowledge. "The gods did not create the average body to hold any amount of outside divine power at all. This means your entire being will be sore for a couple of days, but you will no longer die of sewer plague. Your bruised areas will still need the proper medicine and time to heal, as I only cast a simple first level spell for a common disease."
"Thank you," he said after understanding what happened.

"Don't mention it. This is just a part of my duty," Kyoko said. "And, I won't question it for now, but, you should stay out of the sewers because you obviously aren't equipped with the proper gear, definitely not a kobold, nor are you part of the plumber's guild."
"It won't happen again."
"Then, my work here is done," she said, dusting her hands off.
Aleister nodded and turned to Phisvaelte. "I'll see you in two weeks, then. That should be enough time for him to rest up and for you to sell a few of the potions."
They left her complex after she spent a lot of time thanking them.
"Are you sure you have nothing else for me to do?" Kyoko asked. "I don't want to go back to the temple just yet."
"Unfortunately, I don't know hundreds of people that have the sewer plague," Aleister said. "If you want some work, why don't you just go to the slums and cure people there."
"Osetia does not have any slums in the first place, thank you very much," she said haughtily. "Even if it did, I'm not made up of divine energy, you know. I only have so much I can use every day."
"Fine, just follow me then." Aleister thought about the words she said as he walked and actually just now realized that she was right. Osetia indeed didn't have any slums, which he wanted to know how was possible in the first place when so many people occupied the city. Of course, he still saw beggars wander the streets, but they were in the minority. The second point also made sense. The gods granted their worshippers divine energy, which cleansed and activated their souls through an alternative means.

Waking Up
The story of Larin the Builder in the aftermath of Awakening This short story is the epilogue of Awakening, the first book of the Chronicles of Mother's Gate series. This epilogue is a great follow-up to the novel, a bonus story that adds extra layers between books without being necessary to the main storyline.Waking Up follows the story of Larin, who is alive but unconscious after her ordeal in the Nine Hells. She awakens in A'lara City a few days later and recuperates under the steadfast care of her repentant friend Jorn.As she reacclimates to her waking state, Larin struggles with her gruesome memories of the Hells and her decision to conceal them from Jorn. This story answers the question, Is Larin all right? with a resounding yes, and some storms on the horizon. It also raises the question, What happened to her down there? and includes an excerpt from the sister story Falling Down, about Larin's ordeal in the Nine Hells. Praise for Waking Up and Falling Down: Loved it. The difference between the two stories is great! The difference between Waking Up and Falling Down is astounding. So much light and love in the first story. You feel safe reading it. Healing. The second, so much darkness, pain and despair. The choice of vocabulary is awesome and makes an impact. And this set of short stories ties the two books together so well.-- Dana V. of Texas ★★★★★
