《Into Nothing》58 // Participating In A Bit Of Foolery

"I haven't been here in many years," Myra said, voice energized. She rushed up the steps and waited for Aleister at the very top.
"And I haven't been here in many days." He gazed upon the statue of Lilith, and once again he stood there, impressed.
"Hi, am I able to be of service to the two of you today," a priestess asked as she walked next to them.
Myra said nothing. Instead, she took a couple of steps back and faced away, her hands covering her face.
Aleister cleared his throat and let out his overly fake posh voice. "I would like to talk to the head priestess and file a formal complaint about how one of your people treated me poorly the other day."
His words stunned the priestess. She blinked rapidly and shook her head. "Sorry, I don't think I understood what you said. Could you please repeat yourself?"
Aleister clicked his tongue on purpose and adjusted his collar. "I would like to file a former complaint about one of your fellow priestess about how poorly she treated me the other day."
Although still dazed, the priestess asked, "I'm so sorry to hear that. What was her name?"
"Kyoko she called herself."
"Can she behave herself for just one day?" The priestess murmured as she pressed four fingers against her forehead. "Is there anything we can do to rectify your situation?"
He pretended not to hear the words she muttered under her breath and said, "Have her face me and apologize directly to me and I will think about it letting it go."
"I understand," she said. "I will go bring her out for you. Would you like to take a seat in our prayer hall?"

"No. I will wait right here."
"Very well then, we will be with you in just a few minutes."
"Don't talk to me," Myra said. Her hands still covered her face. Aleister did his best to control his laughter.
"This way of getting her attention is much more entertaining, is it not?"
Myra stepped away from him without saying a word.
"Just so you know, I don't agree. This is brilliant," Syn said, wiping away the tears from her eyes. "I never thought you had it in you."
Aleister wiped away his grin once he saw the priestess from earlier come out with Kyoko by her side. Each one of her strides exhibited an exaggerated swagger and confidence.
Once she saw him, she stopped in her tracks. "This is a joke, right?"
"I would never joke around about such serious matters that are damaging to my reputation," he said, continuing the act once again.
"Why are you talking like that?"
"And now you question the mannerisms in which I speak? These offenses truly are unforgivable!" Aleister raised his hand and waved his finger around in a over the top manner.
With presses hands, the priestess looked at Kyoko with squinted eyes.
Kyoko bowed down and with an obvious smile on her face, said, "I am so sincerely repentant about my previous behavior that words truly cannot full exhibit my willingness to apologize. Is there anything I can do to make it up to you?"
Her actions impressed Aleister. He did not expect her to play along as well as she did after her initial reaction. "As a matter of fact, I do know of someone who is in need of someone that is a priest."
The priestess from earlier felt like something wasn't quite right at this point. But before she had time to inquire about the shenanigans going about, Kyoko said, "This is a very important transgression that I need to take care of," and followed Aleister down the stairs.

Aleister met up with Myra, who had already made her way to the bottom, and started walking towards Phisvaelte's housing.
"Wait," Kyoko said, pushing her hand forward, "I don't know what your plan is, but I want to know!"
"What is this plan you speak of?"
Kyoko shook her head and turned to Myra. "What was this for?"
"I am not affiliated with this man," she said, her voice—quiet.
"But you're—ugh, nevermind." She let out a sigh. "Guess I can't be too annoyed since I still get to leave this place."
"Well, it looks like you didn't get my memo, but that someone needed someone was actually me," Aleister said, giving the posh voice up.
"Why are you talking normally again?"
"What does that mean? I always talk like this."
"So you're not going to acknowledge the other voice you used?"
"Oh, that!" Aleister acted like it just dawned on him what she referred to. "That wasn't me, that was my alter ego."
"Now I get it, thanks for the explanation," Kyoko said, flipping her hair back. "I'm assuming that you need me for something and didn't do this just for fun. Although, from what little I do know, you might actually be the type of person to do this just to kill some time."
"Unfortunately, I don't actually have time to kill so you would be right," Aleister said. "I need you for the most noble of causes—curing some kids' sewer plague."
"What made you think that I'm able to?"
"Intuition along with some assumptions."
"And if you were wrong?"
"Whatever." He shrugged. "I'll just find someone else. Not really a big deal."
"Not really the answer I expected, but sure, I'll cure the kid for you," she said. "It's part of my job, anyway."
"Now please tell me that you won't charge me an arm and a leg."
"It's a service paid for by donations, and mainly the government."
"Perfect, because otherwise I would have had to write you an IOU."
"Why, no," Kyoko corrected herself, "How, do you not have any money?"
"Because I spent it all."
"What did you buy that you spent all of your money on?"
"Long story short, I only received about forty-three gold pieces and almost all of it went to buying herbs," he explained. "Funnily enough, the kid you're going to cure is the son of the person I bought them from."
"Only forty-three gold?" Kyoko bobbed her head from side to side. "I can spend double that in just a couple of minutes."
Aleister raised his arms in protest. "How do you even have that much money as a priestess? Are there not guidelines for letting go of mortal possession or something?"
"If you follow an inferior god, probably."
