[David]

We were now distributing the loot we obtained from the Goblin Lord. I had got myself his bow. I inspected it and found that it was way better than my current wooden bow.

Elder Goblin Shieldbow

A bow made by one of the most famed fletchers of the Goblin race.

This is a traditional and ancestral bow used by chieftains.

Dex +34

Damage - 100~200

Level Restriction: 30

I allowed a wry smile to touch my lips on seeing the fruits of our hard labor. Alice had good a pair of boots that increased her Agi while Arianne had got a mantle which increased both her Int and her Wis.

I was still worried about my profession. To be honest, I had certain suspicions about Alice’s profession but mine was a bit unexpected. I looked back and saw both of them cheerily talking to each other as they slowly made their way back to the Guild to report their findings.

I knew it wasn’t good to lie outright about my profession. I just didn’t want to reveal it in front of Arianne. No. Signya was not my patron

We were supposed to have been sent to this world by the same person but how on earth did we end up with different patrons?.

Because of the blessing from my patron and the bonuses that came along with my Profession, my stats had touched 900… well, mostly all. My Int and Wis were at the late 700’s and my Luck had decreased a lot. It was now only 20.

Yep. Bonuses from my loving patron.

I sighed and glanced at Alice. I knew deep down that she, unlike Arianne, didn’t believe about my profession for a single moment.

One of the forthcoming days, I would have to tell her the truth.

Thanatos… How the hell did my patron end up different? I thought, a bit scared about what her reaction would be.

We had about an hour walk till we reached the Guild, so we decided to take it slowly and get more acquainted with Arianne.

She seemed really touchy about the topic of her previous life but since we weren’t ones to talk, we skipped the topic.

Arianne then insisted on knowing more about us and we finally relented much to her happiness.

“Did you have anyone you cared for, in your world?” she asked me, a slight blush coloring her cheeks.

I was a bit stumped by her question. I thought about the life we had and answered.

“Other than Alice? Not a soul”

Alice seemed to be pretty happy on hearing my reply.

“Do you have any regrets on leaving your world?” she asked us reproachfully.

“Not really.” Alice answered on my behalf too.

I couldn’t help but realize that, during the job, Alice had quickly opened up to Arianne and were now something like friends.

We were having a bit of fun talking that we didn’t actually notice that we had reached the Guild until I walked into one of it’s walls, causing everyone, the girls included, to burst out laughing. I could feel my cheeks heat up from the embarrassment.

I stood up and dusted the dirt from my ass. I grimaced as I could still hear the two girls giggling behind me.

Slowly I pushed the door open and we made our way towards the reception in the middle of the Guild hall. Adventurers wearing all kinds of equipment were running around taking up jobs. I even caught sight of a Mithril class adventurer standing at the bulletin board looking for jobs that suited his ranking.

There was a counter free and we made our way towards the receptionist. She was a rather petite young lady with neck length deep blue hair. She was wearing the standard Guild uniform and had a blue coloured lapel over her chest which read: Trainee.

She soon caught sight of us making our way towards her and flashed me a warm smile.

“Hello Sir. I am Jeslie. What can I help you with today? Have you come to turn in your jobs?” She asked me with a pleasant smile.

“Yes. We did. We would also like to report a slight complication that came up regarding the job.”

Jeslie looked at me eagerly for a moment but it soon dropped on seeing the Copper badge I wore. I gave her a slight glare and my brows furrowed in annoyance. She caught my look and started to apologise but I stopped her with a gesture.

“As I was saying, There was a slight complication. The job description involved killing 15 goblins which we have completed” I said, pushing the contract Alice handed to me towards Jeslie.

“So what was the complication?” she asked me puzzled.

“It was a Stronghold” Arianne interrupted causing a small sigh to escape my lips.

The young receptionist looked at us with a baffled expression. The surrounding adventurers had gone silent on hearing those words.

“Way to go attracting attention…” Alice muttered.

Arianne gave us a sheepish smile and mouthed a ‘sorry’ at us.

The receptionist suddenly became very flustered and started consulting her senior in the next counter. She took a deep breath and turned to us. She took out a pouch containing 30 gold coins and gave it to us as the reward.

“Thank you for your information Adventurers. We will immediately form a punitive force with a Mithril ranked adventurer leading them to take care of the situation.

The nearby adventurers, on hearing this started to murmur in excitement. But our reactions were different. A slight smile touched Alice’s lips and Arianne started to giggle. I feigned a look of disinterest and controlled myself from giggling.

The receptionist looks at us with a confused expression. Alice holds up her hand and said

“ No. We aren’t making fun of you. It's just that we already took care of the matter and killed the Goblin Lord. A stupefied expression crossed her face but it disappeared just as soon as an Iron rank adventurer interjected

“ Yeah and I slew a Red dragon.” .

The whole guild hall burst into laughter. Honestly I couldn’t consider which of the two were more unbelievable, Us killing a Goblin Lord or him killing a dragon. He might as well have made one of the stupidest comparisons ever.

Jeslie first acted surprised but then started glaring at us. I sighed in a defeated tone and a unshouldered my bow and handed it to her ,who looked at me with a puzzled expression.

“Appraise it” I said, raising my voice so the surrounding adventurers could hear us. I could hear the Trainee receptionist gulp audibly as all eyes turned towards us once again. Silence prevailed the hall as everyone awaited her verdict.

She started appraising it and her face changed, consumed by a medley of emotions. Shock, Fear, Amazement, Apology.

Jeslie stood up from her counter and with a very apologetic expression, bowed and apologised to us. “ I’m deeply sorry for not believing you. This is an authentic Goblin artifact.”

Chaos erupted all throughout the hall. Disbelief ran on their faces.

“Now, how about you go slay that dragon of yours?” Alice sneered at the Iron ranked adventurer who had jeered at me earlier. His face paled in fright and I could hear Arianne giggling. I let out a small chuckle as I shouldered the bow once again.

As we were about to leave the guild, Jeslie called us back once more and said,

“Please leave your Guild card here so that we may update your rankings. The badge need not be given back. It will change color when you get back your Guild card. “.

I smiled and pulled out my Copper colored Guild card. The girls too did the same. I collected their cards and gave it to the receptionist and we made our way out of the hall. Silence ensued and all eyes were on us till we left the hall.

When we came outside, Alice started laughing.

Puzzled, I looked at her. She wiped her tears and continued laughing till she noticed that I was staring at her.

“That was a bit too funny” she said giving me a big grin.

By this time, I noticed that the red haired Saint was fidgeting with a flushed face. I went up to her and asked with all seriousness.

“Do you have a fever or something?”

“...ty” she whispered inaudibly.

Alice looked at me with a puzzled expression.

“I’m sorry, What?” I asked slowly.

“Party...” she whispered in a slight whisper.

“You want to celebrate? Sure!”

Alice looked at me with eyes of approval.

“No. Not that party… I want us to be a party when we take jobs from the Guild. All three of us.” She whispered , a bit more audibly. She was visibly flustered and her face was now bright red.

I looked over to Alice dumbly. She looked up at me with puppy eyes. I too was not much opposed to it as it would help to know about this world and what would happen to us in the future. I smiled at her and said.

“Sure, why not? How do we register?”

“We can do it at the Guild tomorrow”

“Sure thing. Can’t wait.” I said with a smile.

An expression of joy crossed her face. She then excused herself and ran off to her lodgings with a wide grin plastered on her face.

I chuckled to myself as my sweet sister hugged me with a happy smile. We slowly made our way towards The Bear Shack, to get the rest that we deserved.

As we entered the parlor, Galvin greeted us with a wide smile and demanded that I tell him all about my adventures. I agreed , and told him that I would tell him, but only after dinner. Galvin seemed satisfied and he sent us up to our room with a grin.

“Aah… That felt good.” I said as I came out of the bath. Alice, who was lying on bed smirked at me and ran off to take her bath.

Soon , it was sunset and both of us were done resting up. I decided to take a look around and maybe even level up my Smithing once again.

Alice agreed and she went downstairs to help Galvin out with dinner, while I went on to train my skills and check out the city.

After roaming around tasting a few snacks, I went back to the familiar smithy.

“Welcome back~” a familiar voice greeted me. It was the Master Smith. Now most people, on hearing the term, Master Smith, might think of a bulky man with bulging muscles and a scarred face.

No. It was a woman in her mid twenties by my estimation. She greeted me with a beautiful smile. She had tanned skin but great curves that complimented her body while at the same time, emphasizing an athletic body.

Yep. She was sexy as hell and personally, I found it lucky to be taught by this charming lady.

“Yep. I’m back Petra. I thought of getting a bit of practice with the anvil before I go back to sleep. Might as well make a few arrowheads to go with my Fletching.”

“Sounds like a plan~” Petra replied cheerily while guiding me to the forge.

I had spent around an hour working at the forge when I realized that it was about time for dinner.

I had levelled up my Smithing to Beginner Level 7 and had created around 500 arrowheads which I dumped in my inventory. I thanked Petra for her lessons and sped off to the Bear Shack.

I burst in through the door and looked around. Alice and Galvin were merrily chatting away while setting the table. Both of them caught sight of me entering the inn. Galvin waved at us cheerily while on the other hand was frowning at me.

“You’re late brother.” Alice said.

I gave her an apologetic smile and Galvin rounded us up and the three of us started our dinner. The sound of Galvin guffawing from hearing our adventures could have been heard a mile away. A cheery and open innkeeper really did, lighten the mood. He had made an astonished face when he caught sight of my bow which I had told him to be the spoils of our victory.

Soon, our merry dinner session was over and we turned in for bed.

.

.

It was probably midnight. I woke up with a penetrating pain in my chest. I got up and looked around. There was nothing in sight. I paused for a moment realizing that it could have been knockback from one of my passive skills. Detect to be exact. It only meant one thing… There were malicious presences in the vicinity.

I grabbed my shortsword and went back to bed. Keeping my eyes closed. A slight *thud* resounded and I could hear some voices.

Intruder 1: “Shush… you ass. They could wake up”

Intruder 2: “Sorry, I slipped”

Intruder 3: “Whatever… we just need to kill these two and grab the bow right?”

Intruder 2: “ That’s what Sir Pyros said.”

Although I could hear everything, I was seeing all that was happening, with my Detect skill. To be honest, ever since it became Intermediate Level, it seemed more like echolocation as I could make out shapes and figures.

One of the intruders were closing in on me. Immediately, I jumped up and slit his throat sensing that he was in close range. Blood spurted everywhere. My shirt and face was probably covered in blood. Intruder 2 who had been following the first guy, tripped and fell, giving me an opening and I drove my sword into his brain.

The 3rd man was probably smarter. He was pointing a dagger at Alice’s throat and gesturing at me to drop my sword. I grinned and complied. I threw my sword at his face causing it to get lodged in his face, hilt deep and he dropped like a sack of potatoes.

I tried to retrieve my sword but it broke off at the hilt. I sighed, realizing that my sword was no more. I looked around and confirmed there were no other presences. The room was a bloody mess. I was tired. I didn’t give two shits about what was going to happen next. I just crashed back to sleep.

I was woken up in the morning by a loud scream and tears falling on my face. I opened my eyes and looked up in shock to see Alice crying .

“Why’re you crying?” I asked nonchalantly.

“Because you died~~” Alice started bawling.

This was a cute but unexpected side of her.

“I died?” I asked her stupefied.

“Huh… Wait what?” Alice took a moment to focus her eyes and stared blankly at my face.

I realized what happened. I was still covered in blood from the 3 intruders.

“You idiot~~ and I thought you were actually smarter than me . Haha~”

“How can you be so carefree? They tried to kill you.”

“Not me—, us”

Alice went silent. Hearing all the commotion, Galvin came running upstairs with a worried look on his face.

He looked into the room and on seeing the corpses and my body, caked with dried blood, exclaimed,

“What in the blazes happened here?!”

“Dunno, couple of people came inside and committed suicide” . I replied.

“ “ WHAT?!” “

I cringed from the sudden shout and said “ I’m going to take a bath and wash all this filthy blood off me. They’re adventurers, so just call up the Guild. They’ll take care of it”

Galvin seemed to be in deep thought and finally nodded his head and said in a defeated tone.

“Breakfast’s ready”

I chuckled as I made my way out of the room and towards the bath. When I was out of their sight, my emotions tumbled out.

Anger. Burning Anger. Rage. Wrath. Murder. Kill. Kill. Kill.

I started emitting bloodlust. Pyros, I don’t know who the fucking hell you are, but I WILL rip your intestines out for trying to kill my sister.

________

It was now 8 in the morning. We had fixed the time for meeting with Arianne at 10 in the morning. I still had around 2 hours left. So I decided to introduce Alice to my teacher in Smithing. She too seemed a bit happy at my idea.

I decided on going to the Smithy as I still wanted to make another 100 arrowheads. I was now using Steel instead of Iron as I found out that it dealt better damage. But I wanted to try my hand at smithing something else too.

Soon we entered the smithy where we were greeted by Petra’s smiling face.

“Welcome back David~~. Who’s the girl? “ She thought for a while and did something rather unexpected.

She let out a gasp and while sniffing back her tears whimpered, “ Does this mean that I was just your fling? *sniff* You even said you would take responsibility for what you did to me..” and started bawling like a baby.

I look at her with a stupefied expression while I sense a mass of Killing intent directed at me.

Your Detect skill has levelled up. (Intermediate Lv 2)

I turn and look towards the source. I gulped.

Alice was giving me the death glare.

Petra suddenly burst out laughing on seeing our faces and cleared up the misunderstanding. This time, I was the one glaring at her. Soon Petra and Alice were chatting merrily away while I was working at the forges.

Not much later,

Steel Defender

A well made defender , made by a smith seeking to deal damage to his enemies.

Level Restriction: 15

Damage: 50~90

I examined the blade and was satisfied with my results. I handed it over to Petra who started boasting about her pupil’s work with Alice.

But my work was not done yet. It was time to give Alice, some better weapons.

Steel Dagger

Made by an Intermediate Level smith. Perfect weapon for Mid- Level Assassins for dealing damage to their enemies.

Level Restriction: 15

Damage: 60~90

Off Hand Steel Dagger

Made by an Intermediate Level smith for a Mid-Level Assassin with proficiency in Dual Wielding.

I handed the daggers over to Alice who wore a joyous expression on recieving them. I smiled on seeing her smiling face.

We soon waved our goodbyes to Petra, restocked our emergency potions and headed towards the Guild.
