《Re:Hammer - The Hammering》Chapter 25

The world suddenly came into sharp contrast suddenly and without any desire from Emia. She was fine in the darkness, but no. Now there was light. And the light did not reveal anything good. This room was a cell, for a thing far stronger than her. Or maybe, not. They didn’t know what she could do, nor did she. Maybe they assumed she had killed the Astartes, and kept her alive only long enough to find out how and why.
Though in the cell, she had a lot of boxes to read. The destruction of her piercings had brought her Corruption to 300. There were prompts to pick her powers, but she shut them down. And then, there was a quest.
300 Faith
300 Corruption
Level 75
Each of the three had a checkbox behind it. Two were ticked, and the level requirement wasn’t too far away. There was a War below, after all. Lots of people to kill. Though she wanted to keep her healing hands, the Felinid had sparked a deep bloodthirst to get stronger so next time she wasn’t quite so useless in the face of her. And that meant a higher level.
Though, getting a higher level meant getting out of this cell, alive. Though clearly she was being watched, because only a few minutes after she woke up, the door opened. There stood a man in a hood with a staff, backed by a pair of Astartes, whose guns were trained on her. Strange Astartes, they were a lot smaller than the ones she had seen before, both in stature and armour. They stood little larger than the man in the middle and the armour wasn’t like wearing a tank. It was more like her Angelus pattern.
A strange feel rolled over her, something she instinctively knew as a Psyker power. Though it failed to get through the bastion that was her mind, and was pulled back after it’s failure.

“Few outside of Astartes can pull off such mental strength. And they are taught under vigorous conditions for years. In addition, you came from an Agri-World not a year ago. A strange cult of The Emperor populated this world, with teachings that had the tinge of Chaos. And then one day you left with the Magos, Egwene Tai. Her list is longer than any loyalist. Many question if she is indeed loyal”
The man spoke, and then stepped inside the cell, and up to Emia.
“Not a very good history. Egwene should be hunted as a Heretic were it not for the constant interference of the Priesthood of Mars. Furthermore, every member of this cult was taken to rehabilitation centers. Yet you not only escape this fate but get trained as a Sororitas. A Sororitas who’s first deployment sees you the only survivor of your unit” He continued, though Egwene darkened and her Faith blossomed. The Warp was drawn by this light, and though she was able to fend it off with her power, Psykers would feel the attention of the Warp on them. A most dangerous attention.
“I don’t appreciate the last insinuation. My sisters sent me to deliver a message. A message that allowed the Hive War to make adjustments that wouldn’t get thousands of the PDF killed. You know so much about me, how can you not know that?” Emia replied. The man turned to look at her directly, feeling her calling The Warp but knowing she was no Psyker.
“Hmm. You are an enigma, to be sure. I assume you were told about the now absent Felinid that The Inquisitor has on his retinue?” the man asked. Less stating things, more having a conversation.
“A little. Apparently she is a Daemonhost, and there were attempts to capture her” Emia replied, pulling in her aura to ease the strain on him. She just lost her cool, was all. She didn’t intend true harm.

“Mmm. Nobody knows anything about her. The Inquisitor is incredibly sparse about her, and cesures any attempt to find out too much. Though, attempts are certainly a way of explaining it. She was first encountered by a Senior Agent of Inquisitor Blackfox, and his team of Tempestus Scion. Numbered between twelve and thirty, this squad was destroyed to a man after trying to subdue her. Inquisitor Blackfox tried to suppress any attempt to go after her, but failed to account for a nearby Inquisitor with her own thoughts. This Inquisitor sent two squads of Astartes after the Felinid, and got their heads sent back, with a gift basket filled with muffins.
From here, Inquisitor Blackfox was forced into a joint operation, led by the other Inquisitor. Ancient oaths and favours were unearthed, and an army was sent after her. The most elite Tempestus in either retinue, a squad of Veteran Astartes, and a Terminator Sargent. This is the last we ever heard of anything for ten years. Inquisitor Blackfox sealed all information about it under the highest authority and left the sector. Only for the Felinid to find her way on board and tell everyone who would listen about her exploits butchering this strike force and to question if they were going to send any more”
The man finished his explanation and Emia, just stood silently. She knew that Felinid was a powerful creature, she had showcased that in the station. But to go through that kind of force? What the hell was she?
“Since then, there have been four hundred and thirty seven fatalities related to that Felinid. Related to their attempts to kill her, or find out about her. The Inquisition is nearing the full cesure of Inquisitor Blackfox and excommunicating him for this whole ordeal. What we want to know, is why that Felinid has just vanished again after killing a Commissar and two Astartes” The man leaned in and stared at Emia. A stare reinforced by the pair of Astartes at the door.
“I don’t know. She was talking about something and said something that set off the Astartes. Something about a Daemon. And she didn’t seem to like them pointing their weaponry, so she killed them. I tried to fight her but was entirely outclassed. Why she left me alive, I do not know. That woman...is entirely unknowable. I have no idea what Daemons really are but something tells me they are not eccentric Felinids in dresses” Emia replied. It wasn’t technically a lie, and her mental fortitude meant he couldn’t read her mind.
“This is true. Though betrayal has not been her thing. She has, in fact, been stubbornly honourable” a new man spoke from the door. Wearing a strange suit of armour and extruding an aura of command and authority, he was clearly Blackfox.”No doubt she will turn up again though. She always does. For now we should turn our attention to more pressing and present matters. The Governor was corrupted by Chaos, and the PDF are fighting against his agents on the ground. My retinue can add fire to this, but we need more. I have put out astropathic calls to everyone in the area. Though I wish to have you part of my forces”
Blackfox spoke with a deep sense of pride, and conviction. He spoke with a voice unable to be denied, and so she didn’t. Stepping past the man who made rather unfeeling acquisitions, she stood in front of Blackfox and nodded.
“I have a lot of vengeance to enact, Inquisitor. I accept your offer”

Dungeon Scholar
Girl meets dungeon. What could go right? A story of a good-hearted Scholar driven by her compassion and curiosity. She might be a little combat averse, but um, isn't that only logical? Love me a good grimdark, but sometimes I want to read feel-good fiction that isn't pure action, romance, or comedy. The plot and characters of Dungeon Scholar won't be all happy and fluffy, and the world will be more dungeons and monsters than rainbows and puppies, but overall the sweet moments should overshadow the bitter. Let's say three dollops of sugar for every pinch of salt, with lemon slices left on the saucers? Enjoy. Note: This is NOT a typical dungeon story. If you are here for the dungeon aspect, then fair warning this will seem incredibly slow-burn to you. The dungeon will eventually become the most important 'character,' arguably, or the second-most important narratively, but you might jump out the window in frustration long before that happens. At its heart, the story's core remains 'girl meets dungeon,' not 'dungeon meets world.' (To be clear, this does or will have a plot! It's just the more conventional story-like elements contribute to Rowena Loress's greater story, not the other way around; no conflict takes center stage until it becomes personally significant to her. Meanwhile, have some Slice of Life.) Updates every Friday Cover made using Waifulabs Written using 4thewords (referral code: UZJRY55368)
