《Limits》Chapter 51: I Shall Do It!

The days slowly passed. Nick's condition got worse, I could see he was dying. Even though he told me that already, it was the first time I noticed. Nick wasn't that old, which struck me as a bit weird he would die from an old age. When I asked him about it, he told me it's an old story. He didn't want to extrapolate, so I didn't ask anymore. He changed the topic, and said "I have all the herbs necessary for Cloud Haze Poison. It should be enough to make a few bottles of poison. If you fail all of them, I still made some just in case. I also have the antidote as well, here take it". Nick passed me two bottles of antidote, as well as three bottles of Cloud Haze Poison. He then continued, "You don't know how to create poison nor medicine. At least, you never practiced before. You also lack tools necessary to create them. Today, I will show you how to make simple medicine. After you practice with that, I will show you the process of making the Cloud Haze Poison". I nodded while asking, "So where are we going to me that medicine? Here?". To which Nick replied, "Yes. I have all the necessary tools and herbs with me, so we can start straight away". I looked at him for a while. 'He has no tools with him, what is he on about?' I asked myself. I thought he forgot them or something, and asked "Don't you need to go and get the tools? I think you forgot about that". Maybe due to his last days, he was loosing memory, which wouldn't be that weird. Nick shrugged instead. "Boy, do you really think I'm that stupid? You seriously think I forgot about something? I might be dying, but I don't have problems with my memory!". I was confused, and asked "Then where do you have all the tools?". Nick replied rather smugly, "Ha! You know nothing boy! Did you really think, I would go around with all my stuff strapped to my back, like a mule? Behold the wonders of your master Nick!". Nick took out a small bag, and slid his hand inside. What he took out next, was too shocking. He took out a large pot from that bag. This sight blew my mind. I looked at Nick in disbelief, as if I was looking at a magician. I asked in shock, "What type of sorcery is this?". Nick replied with a smug on his face, "This? This is a storage bag. It can hold a lot of items, while the size stays relatively small. The more you put in the bigger the bag will get, and there is a limit too. But it wouldn't get any bigger than... I'd say from ground to your waist". I looked at Nick in disbelief. 'He is setting me up for sure!' I thought, and said "Bullshit. You just did some sort of trick, right? That pot wasn't really in the bag, it was hidden somewhere behind you". Nick's smile got bigger and bigger as he replied, " Wanna give it a try?". I took him up on the offer, and grabbed the bag as well as the pot. He said "Just place the pot inside, that is all you need to do". I tried fitting the pot into the bag, and it simply went inside. I looked at the bag for a while. I wanted to put my head inside, when Nick stopped me. "Don't put your head in. Your hand is fine, but if you try to store a living thing inside, it will die. This is not for living things, only items can be stored inside". I nodded, and gave him the bag back. He said, "You lived your life in a small village, cut off from the rest of the world. Even people such as Rand, have no idea that these type of items exist. You will learn more about the world, the more you travel. The bag like this is nothing really, there are greater wonders out there. Stuff you would never imagine". I was excited to be honest. If such a bag was just some random item, what else was out there? I said, "Tell me more. I'd like to know more about the world. I want to learn more about such great things as this bag!". But Nick shook his head while replying, "Calm down. You will explore all those things in due time. For now, focus on your training and goals. When you are done here, you will have the opportunity to learn about loads of things. Travelling is the best way to broaden your horizons after all. You will encounter people, that are much stronger than me. Wonders that you could only dream of, but for that you need strength". Nick continued, "You are humble boy Nex. This can make you very strong. Because you know so little, you are not like the others who try to get stronger. You can easily surpass me, even though you are not that talented. Talent doesn't mean you can become someone in the future. Those talented people? They have to learn as well, but if they are lazy or abandon their goals, no matter how much talent they have, it will amount to nothing. You on the other hand, you have your will and you have something else. You will learn about yourself, as you travel. With new ideas, a new generation will arrive. Hard work pays off Nex, don't forget that". A short pause later, he continued. "Can you do something for me, or rather for yourself?". I asked confused, "What's that?". He replied, "Don't visit any city for now. Keep away from people as much as you can, and develop your skills". I didn't want to do that really, since he told me about the wonders out there. Nick grabbed my shoulder, and said "I don't mean forever. The Arts you train, they are not well received anyway. If you use them inside the city, or near other Humans, bad stuff will happen. There is another reason. If you develop yourself without a bias, no one will be able to manipulate you. I just want you to make your own decisions in the future, not carry out orders from others, or worse die because you were too weak. That's all I'm asking". It was Nick who taught me everything. He showed me all those Arts, and even cautioned me. He wouldn't say all those things, if he didn't experience the world before. He knew what avaited me out there, while I knew nothing. I replied, "That is true, I'm not talented. I might have to work very hard, to master those skills. Who know, I might never master them. That doesn't mean I will simply leave my goals behind. I will not visit the cities, I will try to stay away from others, and interact as little as I can. If that is what it takes, to explore my life? If that means I have to be alone? I will do it!".
