《Limits》Chapter 19: Conversation about The Break

I didn't say anything else, but that didn't seem to deter her from speaking. "I was enslaved, because I tried to steal something important from that Village Chief". I thought 'She's annoying'. I kind of guessed the reason. She wasn't alone, besides I was a slave as well. This allowed her to socialise a bit, and all Human wanted to socialise. Of course, until they were left alone without being able to interact for a long time. I gave it some more thought, and realised something. 'She mentioned something important… Could it be the secret of getting stronger?'. I opened my eyes, and asked "Did you perhaps wanted to steal something, which allows someone to get stronger?". Her expression revealed everything. She asked shocked, "How did you know?". To which I snorted, and replied "Because his granddaughter beat me up countless times? I don't believe any woman should be this strong, without some sort of secret technique". She was astonished again, but I also realised something. 'Hmmm... She tried stealing something. This could mean, she should have some means of achieving that. Although she was caught, she wouldn't simply barge in and tried stealing it in broad daylight' I thought. This was an opportunity, therefore I decided to ask her. "Why did you do it?". A hint of hatred appeared on her face, while she replied. "Because it belongs to me". 'Interesting, but anyone can claim that. If whatever they practice, was stolen or perhaps sold in the past, she could be the real owner. Of course, if what she says is true' I thought. This gave me an opportunity to ask another question. "How can you prove it's yours?". She snorted in response, and said "It belonged to my parents". I replied, "Anyone can claim that. I could claim it belonged to my parents as well. The question is, how can you prove it?". She answered immediately, "My parents left their notes inside. They mentioned me. Besides, I'm the only person left alive, who know how to practice those sets correctly". 'Oh, that's even better. Maybe I could get my hands on that as well' I thought, and said "Did you practice those sets of whatever?". She quieted down for a bit, then said she "No". 'That's a shame. If she knew a thing or two, this could prove useful' I thought. One question remained though. I asked "Why?". She replied "I was too young, I couldn't practice it. That doesn't change the fact, I know how those poses look like. What I saw, were the poses from my parents' manual!". 'So she can recognise the poses, but can't repeat them? That's a bit weird, but I guess it is possible' I thought. I decided to change my questions a bit. After all, that manual or whatever was not easily accessible. Her skills on the other hand, were. "How did you want to steal it? I don't suppose you just barged in like nothing, and demanded it". She went a bit red on her face, and didn't answer. 'No, don't tell me she really did that.... She's hopeless, just hopeless' I thought. I added, "So you went there and demanded it back. Are you saying that, he enslaved you because you demanded something back? Didn't you say, you tried to steal it?". She answered, "It was because he didn't give it back, and just laughed in my face. 'Take it back yourself, if you can of course', is what he said". I thought those were some bogus charges, but it seemed that she really tried stealing it. The question was how? I asked "How did you want to achieve that?". She became suspicious all of a sudden, and asked with her eyes narrowed. "Why do you want to know?". 'She isn't that stupid, I will give her that much' I thought. She was suspicious about my question, and normally that would be pretty much the proper reaction. But I wasn't interested in the manual. I was interested in her skills. Although I say that, I wouldn't decline the knowledge from that manual. After all, this would increase my chances of getting away. I replied "It's not what you think. I don't want the manual or anything. I'm more interested in how you tried stealing it". She replied "I think I know what you mean, but what do I get in exchange?". I didn't think about that before. After all, what could I offer her in exchange? I asked, "How about you get the bed then? I will make one for myself?". She replied, "Aren't you a bit too shameless? You already promised me a bed". 'That is true, I did promise her that' I thought. I had nothing of value though. What could I possibly give her? Out of ideas, I decided to ask her. "What do you want then? You know well enough, I have nothing". She pointed a finger at me, and motioned for me to come over. I was a bit confused, but then I realised she probably wanted to say something quietly. I picked myself up from the floor, and walked up to her. She said in a whispering voice, "Help me escape from here. If we work together, we have better chances. If you agree, I will teach you everything I know". It was a tempting offer, but also something i wouldn't accept easily. Her proposition was really good, but I couldn't trust her enough, to hand my safety to her. I thought about it for a while, then replied in a whisper as well. "I will think about it". It was time for me to leave anyway, my next task would start soon.

This is the story of how that boy was shamed and disgraced. Of how he was outcast for simply being. This is the story of how that boy learned to embrace the darkness that made him different. A darkness that would later make him known as the Lord of Night. Note to Reader: I understand this book is not for everyone, if there is a writer that can write to please everyone, I have never heard of them. The MC can be frustrating in his decisions as he learns to grow and accept what and who he is. I believe this reality is unavoidable. That being said, if you feel the need to give a review, please do so, just know that I will report you if all that review seems to do is blab toxic language and insult my literary choices without giving constructive advice or alternatives. That's not just a me policy, that's a policy of this website. I'm not writing this note because I'm a writer who does not acknowledge that there are faults in my work. I know there are. That's what happens when it hasn't been professionally edited by someone other than the author. I'm saying this because I'm sick of reading 1 star or 0.5 star rated reviews that seem to do nothing but hate on the book because they don't like the story. No comments on grammar, ways to improve or suggestions for better story arcs. Just plain hate. It's not on, and I frankly shouldn't have to write this note, but needed to get it off my chest. In saying all that, thank you to those who do leave reviews that don't fall into the above category. Your appreciation of my work, or alternatively, your willingness to give advice for improvement, is appreciated.
