《Shadow's World》Dog

Little girl’s POV

I look at the man as the snake slithers before us. The man walks behind the snake and starts petting. He turns towards us with a smile on his face. “My name is The Shadow, what are your names?” He asks in a calm voice.

I look him up and down. He looks like someone in his early 20s late teens but yet he conducts himself as someone far older. Our parents are extremely powerful people and they walk a certain attitude about them. This guy reeks of it. But he feels so much stronger than our parents. They are the strongest fairies on earth, but I don’t think they will understand his power. He summons a tier two fairy likes it is nothing, is it his true fairy?

My little brother moves my hand from his mouth. As I am staring down at the man calling himself Shadow.

“My name is Wilfred and the girl that is staring daggers at you is my older sister Wendelin.”

Wendelin’s POV

I put my hand back over my little brother’s head and watch as The Shadow smiles and laughs. He walks towards us. I can feel the rumbling of the earth as he takes each step. I look at my little brother and he doesn’t seem to have the same reaction as me with the shadow. Doesn’t he feel the earth shattering footsteps? It doesn’t even seem like the doing it on purpose, but with each step I couldn’t control my balance. The Shadows look up at me and stop.

“Little girl, what’s wrong?” The Shadow asks looking confuse.

“You are making the earth tremble each time you walk. Can you please stop it?” I said in a low voice. I want to yell, I want to run away, but there is no way I can. This monster is holding me in place. I shiver.

My little brother turns around and asks, “Sister, what do you mean? The earth isn’t moving as he walks and are you ok. This man save us why are you so scared?”

The Shadow laughs. “Little boy, don’t worry about your sister. She is just sensitive, don’t worry about it. Come here little boy, I have food.”

He snaps his fingers, and a plate of food appears in his hand. My little brothers run towards the man. I grab him hard and pull him back. “No, Wilfred, you told him our names, and he still refuses to use them. He doesn’t see us as humans but something lesser. Don’t fall for his tricks. We need to find away to escape and hope he doesn’t chase us. He isn’t a human brother but a monster in disguise.”

The room glows. I turn my head towards the source; the basilisk is glowing with all the different colors of the rainbow. The light is mesmerizing. I let go of my brother and walk to the light. My little brother runs to The Shadow. I should protect my little brother, but the light was calling out to me. Red, yellow, and orange are calling out to me. I had to get closer to it. I lumber to the basilisk. My feet feel heavy. With each step I take, I can feel the warm colors on my skin. The basilisk stops, showing all the colors of the rainbow and instead only three, red, yellow, and orange.

I touch the giant snake and felt the colors. I lost myself inside of the colors. The bright red, yellow, and orange. Clap! I turn around and see The Shadow and my little brother looking at me. I take a step back from the snake embarrass. There is a feeling that is washing over me. It is coming from my fairy. She is yellow but for a second she turns white. I blink and rub my eyes. Did my fairy just change colors.

The Shadow yells. “What was that? How did that happen? Fairies shouldn’t be able to change colors, but now I know for sure your fairy isn’t white, but how?”

He gives my little brother a plate of food and snaps his fingers. He disappears and reappears in front of me. “No need for me to walk, and now let me inspect you.” He puts one he on top of my head.

Pop!

I turn towards the sound, and a small rabbit is standing on top of the basilisk. It jumps at The Shadow and kicks him in the face. “No, cheating.” The rabbit disappears.

“I’m not cheating that stupid spider cheated first.” The shadow replies to no none. The rabbit wasn’t there anymore, so why was he still yelling. Also, he didn’t yell where the rabbit disappears in front of us. He turns his head upward and replies.

Why in that direction and what was up with the rabbit?

“Ok, that was eventful. Little girl, you don’t need to fear me. If I wanted to hurt you. You would hurt, and there isn’t anyone or anything that can stop me. I am here to help.” I take a step back.

“This is going to be more difficult than I imagine. Little girl does you like animals, I have a story about a dog, I think you would like. Want to see it? We are going to use the basilisk powers to show a little movie.” He says with a smile.

I want to say no but my fairy nods at my place. The light from the basilisk felt so good that my fairy couldn’t help but want to feel more of them. The Shadow snaps his fingers, and a plate appears in front of me. Food. My stomach grumbles. I haven’t eaten in a few days. The plate had chicken, potatoes, and corn. I could feel saliva fall from my mouth. The food smells good. I couldn’t help it. I took the plate from The Shadow and wolfs down the food in front of me.

“Um, little girl, there is a table over their with utensils.” The Shadows point to my little brother.

I look over. And my little brother was eating at a table with a fork in his hands. I roll my eyes at the shadow and walk over to the table. I sit down and grab a fork and start eating again. This was the best food I have ever eaten. Each bite I took was like my mouth was dancing with flavor. I don’t know where The Shadow got this food, but I’m going to eat every bite. I ate like a wild animal. It only took me a few minutes, but my entire plate was clean.

I hold up my plate to the shadow. This was no time to stand on ceremony. I need more. While I was eating, The Shadow took a seat beside me. I am shoving the plate in this face. The plate is poking his cheek. He gave me a glare and I shove the plate in his face even harder.

“Little girl stop. Here, take this instead.” He snaps his fingers and a bag full of white puffs appears in his hands as he gives it to me.

“We call this popcorn and it will be easier to eat while we watch a movie.”

MY little hops up and down and ask, “What’s a movie? And can I have popcorn too?”

The Shadow replies, “Finish what left on your plate and yes you can’t.” My little brother sits down and shallows the rest of his meal.

I put one popcorn in my mouth and chew. It is tasty.

The Shadow snaps his hands again and gives my little brother a bag.

“This is sad, not only does this wold have popcorn but also movies. How is it a 13 years old and a 10 years old don’t know what those things are?”

Between putting one of these popcorns in my mouth I reply, “We should be slaves. Movies and popcorn sounds like luxury items. Elementals didn’t allow us to have these luxury items.”

The Shadow shouts, “What? Why are you slave and who are you slave too?”

I reply, “The elemental users, the theory of why we are slaves is because they knew in a few hundred years we will become stronger than them. And they were our equals or even above us, so they decide to strike first so they didn’t lose their standing. We figure out a few decades ago there wasn’t a point in keeping us as slaves for monetary value.”

The Shadow looks at me with shock. “I am just repeating what my parents said about the situation.”

The Shadow slams his hand down on the table. My little brother flinches. I didn’t care. There was good food in front of me and there wasn’t a reason to care about what The Shadow is doing with this information. It is funny he doesn’t know about this, but I really doubt he is from here. He might even be an alien.

“What went wrong? This shouldn’t have happened. No wonder those two keep wanting to destroy this world.” The Shadow talks to himself.

“Stop talking to yourself and show the movie. I have heard about it but never seen one before. I also want to feel the light again it was such a warm and fuzzes feeling.” I said to The Shadow as I shove popcorn down my mouth.

The Shadow rolls his eyes, “This girl might be the end of me.”

“Sister, sister, what is a movie?” My little brother ask while jumping up and down.

The Shadow replies, “You will see in a second little boy, don’t worry the movie is about to begin.”

The lights in the warehouse go dim.

The basilisk shines, light from the basilisk shines on the wall. The light creates a picture with a number three, and it counts down. After one hits a picture of two dogs appears. They are in a building with a bunch of puppies running around. Most of the puppies are golden or brown. Wait, I thought there are only two dogs but there seems like there is one more. This dog wasn’t as big as the adults. It was a third of their size.

“Oh, yeah.” The movie stops for a moment. Because The Shadow wants to say something. Does it really matter? I want to watch the movie about the cute puppies.

“The puppies are siblings and the two big dogs are their parents. Most of the puppies are brown because their mother’s genes are dominant over the father’s genes. It might be weird for you guys to understand this because of how this world works. I manipulated the humans of this world so that they wouldn’t look like their parents.” He says, thinking this is information to us.

I turn towards my little brother and say, “Looks like your theory is correct.” And then I turn towards The Shadow. “Does that mean our parents aren’t our actual parents?” I ask, hoping it was true.

The Shadow looks at my little brother, and asks, “Did you really guess that humans of this world are weird?”

My little brother hop up and replies, “Yes, I notice animals look like their parents where we don’t, I told this to my parents and and they that I was thinking too much.” The shadow coughs. “um ok, back to the video oh and the black dog is the same age as the rest of the puppies.”

Wow, that is actually important information and now it makes sense. That dog isn’t a dog but a puppy. Why is this puppy so much bigger than the rest? It might just be an anomaly like our parents. They are the strongest fairies in the world and it isn’t even close. Are we abnormal? The larger puppy watches as one of the smaller puppies tries to leave the room. The bigger puppy runs over and picks the smaller one in its mouth and walks back to the other dogs. They sit them down and go back to watch the other puppies. Are we supposed to be like that dog? The Shadow said we are the chosen ones? Are we supposed to carry people on our backs like this dog?

Humans open the door and enter the room they all are wearing white coats. They have clipboards and are writing stuff. The picture changes and we see what they are writing. Each dog had a name and was they male or female. The black dog's name is Night, and she was a female. But that wasn’t all, they were touching the dogs in weird ways. Like they were examining them. The people were writing stuff down after looking at each dog. After a while the people finish looking at the dogs and put them down and leaves the room.

The entire picture change again and all the dogs are bigger. Most of them were the same size as their parents. There is one big exception. The black dog dwarfs the other dogs in size. She is twice as big as the other dogs. Comparing her to the other dogs. A man with a white coat walks into the room, comparing the man to the dog. The dog reach the man’s chest. This dog is enormous. The rest of the dogs are just below the man’s waist.

The man took the dogs into a room with a bunch of signs and dolls. Could they be training the dogs? This looks like a training area. My parents took us into the middle of forest to train. They made us run, swim, and throw things inside of the forest. We could only train for a few hours a day because the Elementals had drones always searching the forest around the world looking for escape fairies users. Our parents were wonderful at sensing the drones, and we never had to worry about being captured. Until they decide to leave us with one of the other free fairies. He got capture a few days ago.

Why are these people training dogs? The dogs run through the obstacle course. It seems most of them are doing well but there is something off about the dolls. They look like humans, but they seem to have frail skin. The human’s skin shouldn’t represent with something with wool. No animal’s teeth can break through a human skin. So why aren’t they represented as so? As each dog passes the course, the people in white coats nods their head and replace all the items. It finally became the black dog turned.

She walks up to the course with her head held up and she is carrying herself with poise. Unlike the other dogs, she bends her head down right before she starts. Like the other test, a whistle blows telling the dog to start.

She races through the obstacle like they are nothing. She gets to the dolls and bit down hard. You can see her sinking her teeth in the dolls. She bites down so hard the doll rips. Cotton falls out of the doll but that didn’t stop this dog. She counties to run through the course. As she runs through the course, the doll falls apart. The arm rips right off, and the dog continues to run, not knowing it just left the rest of the body behind. The dog finishes the course and drops the arm down. It rises its face to the humans. It even gives a light bark. The humans just shake their heads. The dog is just too power, and it doesn’t even know it.

Maybe that is why our parents push us so hard. I have learned that our fairies are much darker and light than other kids our age. Are they pushing us to be like the dog, stronger, faster, and better than the rest? Do they think we are going to be just like them or surpass them soon? Our we going to be like this dog and drag our allies along until we destroy them?

The picture change again and we see the building in which the dogs live and it said Animal Training Rescue. So, they are being trained to rescue people, but why? The picture changes again and this time the room is full of kids and elderly. The dogs were running around, playing with the kids and helping the elderly. All but one. The dog named Night is sitting by herself overlooking everyone. None of the kids want to play with her because she was looking menacing. The And the one time she tried to help the elderly, she tosses the old person across the room with ease. “Haha.” I laugh.

Both of the shadow and my little brother turns towards me and look at me confused. “Um, no way an elder is getting tossed by a dog. I don’t think an elephant can toss an elder how in the world is this dog supposed to?”

The shadow scratches his head. “Opps, I didn’t know how much I mess up this world. An elephant wouldn’t be able to toss an elder. I might have buffed you humans way too much if a dog tossing an 90 ear old is unbelievable.”

My little brother exclaims, “Wait, he only 90! I thought he was at least 140.” I was going to say the same thing. No way is that person only 90. He looks way too old. The Shadow scratches his head and looks around.

“Wow, this movie might not connect with you at all. I didn’t realize that I improve your specs so much. An enormous dog like that isn’t even a threat, not even an elephant towards a 90 years old. All I have to say is opps.” He scratches his head and looks around.

“This is embarrassing. How can you guys relate to this movie? Should I just change the movie and have you guys look at something else?”

I turn my head back to the popcorn. I really don’t care about the movie, only the food, but there is something bothering me. The dog might represent us, and if that is the case, I want to see the movie at the end. My little brother jumps up and replies happily, “I want to see more about the big dog. I’ve never seen a dog so big and now I want one just like it. Did you see how fast it moves through the obstacle. And it looks happy doing it. When we have to train with our parents, elderly always look scary. This dog looks like it is having fun. I want the dog as a training partner.”

I glare at my little brother, whom shrinks back into his seat. The shadow laughs and replies, “Well, little girl, do you want to keep watching or should we change the movie?”

“I don’t care.” Replying to him.

The Shadow snaps his hands and the movie resumes.

After tossing the old man, the dog just sat in the corner looking at the rest of the dogs and humans getting along. A single drop of water falls from the dog's face as it sits in the corner at first it looks like she was a guardian watching over everyone instead it seems she was was someone that could take part.

I feel for the dog. Sometimes we were on the run and I saw kids my age having fun. We were running for our lives and there were kids laying in the park. We had to hide in the forest and outskirts of town and live inside of abandoned buildings. Yet, there were people inside of their homes relaxing. I always wanted to know that feeling, but even if we turn ourselves in, that wouldn’t happen. I saw the places where slaves live. They packed inside vast buildings and have to work from sunup to sundown. Also, none of them can community with their fairies. The elementals have devices that strict us from using our fairies powers or even communicating with them. I think that is the worst punishment of all. Not being able to communicate with the only being that is with me since my birth. I don;t know how elementals live with themselves not having a best friend since your birth.

I touch my fairy and she giggles. She flies on top of my head and lay down. I know every action she takes without even look and she is the ones they always there to comfort me when my parents make me mad.

The picture change once again and now this time there are a lot of different people all standing around the dogs. They were all from unique organization because they all had different uniforms with different titles. Like one said firefighters, and another said police. The different groups all pick different dogs. They put them on a tiny rope and had them stand behind their members. As the dogs were being selected, one dog wasn’t being picked. Night was siting in the middle of the rest of the dogs. All the people choosing the animals all had note pads and reading the stats of each dog. They all at first went to the Night, but as they flip through the pages of the notes. They stop and decide to go to the other dogs.

As the last dog chosen, I hear a whimper from Night. She was laying down and whimpering as the people from the different organizations left. The other people with the white coats look at her and shake their heads and walk away.

The picture changes again and we see the Night laying down and her parents sitting right next to her. They run their noses in night faces. One parent gets up and moves a bow of food and water in front of Night.

She doesn’t move at first. But the parents keep nodding at her repeatedly until she gets up. She drinks from the bowl of water and ate some food. She then lies back down.

The parents bark at each other. Night put her paws on top of her head. The parents after barking at each walk to the opposite side of the room. They dash towards Night and tackle her. Night gets hits and jumps up in a fright. She turns towards her parents and barks at them. They bark at her back and walk away. Night follows them into the room where the other dogs tested.

The parents both run through the course. It turns to an amazing display of skill. They weren’t as fast as Night in pure speed, but they were graceful and they complete the course faster than Night. After completing the course, they both look at Night.

She whimpers before turning around and heading back the way they came. One parent jump in front of Night and the other put everything back into place. After the one dog puts everything backs into its place. They push Night at the starting line. Night a few times tries to get away, but the parents determined to stop her from escaping.

They force her to stand in the standing line. One of them barks and Night lazily runs through the course. The parents watch as she slowly runs through the course and they don’t bark at her or show their teeth. When I run through a course slower than my parents wanted, they would yell or even throw rocks to make me go faster.

Hey, is this how you supposed to train people? Take your time and if they don’t want to do it be patience with them, anyway? This is new for me. I can’t believe dogs are better at raising a kid than my parents.

After Night finishes the course, the two dogs howl in pride. Night puts her head down with her paws on top of her head. The parents put everything back into and once again run through the course. At first Night pretends not want being interested in what is happen but as they ran through the course, she takes one of her paws off her eyes and watches how her parents ran through. Once again as the parents finish the course the same as before.

Night gets up slowly and runs the course once again, but once again she dilly dally. She is walking through the course. When she finishes, the parents once again howl. The rubs their faces on hers and put everything back into place and do the course again. Instead of watching them again, they move at a faster speed. The movie speeds up and everything is going in fast motion. We see as the dogs do the course again and again. From sunrise to sundown. But each day Night gains more and more confidence. She gets faster and faster. The humans fix the dummy every once in a while and they stop after a while. Night stops destroying the dummy and finishes the course even faster than her parents. As the movie slows down, I notice something else. One of the dog’s stomach is getting bigger and bigger.

The moment the movies goes back to normal speed, there is a new litter of puppies running around. The parents are now frantic. They try to push the humans into the rooms into the training room. They refuse to go. Instead, they are looking at the puppies and testing them. Night is sitting watching the puppies. Some of them room to her and start playing around her. The parents are running around franticly.

After they finish looking at the puppies, they call Night over. But the parents stop her. They are baring their teeth at the people and barking at Night. Night instead of going with the humans escapes and runs outside. Her parents follow her to the door and watch her leaves. Tears falling from their eyes.

Why did the dog have to leave and why didn’t her parents go with her? What is happening? But the movie continues without stopping and explaining the details. Night leaves the building and walks into the city. The city was fairly normal, cars, people and lots of stray animals. Night walks around the city looking for food. She goes through garbage just to find molded meat. Day and night pass. Night is losing weight being out in the city and sometimes we even see people trying to catch her, but she escapes.

Her troubles look like ours. She is alone alone in a place full of people that want to catcher her and control her. Is this going to be our lives?

Nights and days pass in the movie and Night is nothing but skin and bones. Night is walking down the street when when a strange sound could hear. It sounds like some type of alarm. Night put her head up and sniffs the air. She runs in the noise's direction. Smoke appears in front of her as she runs. She looks up and sees a building on fire. She runs up to the entrance and sees other dogs in people running around trying to put out fire. The dogs look like her siblings, all with their owners standing back. The owners look scare and holding to the dogs leaches tightly.

The entrance to the building blocked, and you can see fire coming out of it. Night looks at the humans trying to put the fire out and the dog owners with sweat in their eyes. The dogs are sitting on their tails. Night walks in front of the dogs. She barks at the dogs, causing them all to stand up. She barks again and they tug at their leaches. Their owners stop them. They hold on the leaches tightly, refusing to let go. Why aren’t they letting the dogs enter the building? Are they worry about their safety?

Night looks behind the dogs and growls at the humans. People in blue uniforms try to walk up to Night with their hands up, trying to calm her down, but she snaps at them. They back up. Night looks at the humans holding on the leaches and she growls loudly at the first human who got to pick the first puppy. The person grunts and says, “I not letting my investment die. I need this dog. I don’t even know why I brought him here. He is going to be my breeding dog.”

He snaps his fingers, and people came in front of him. Now, the people in a blue uniform look at the guy and yell, “If that dog can help people release him. Release them all. Stop being selfish there are people inside that need help.”

The man snorts, “I’m out of here.” Night runs up to him and bits his arm. He lets go of the dog and other people tackle him. Night glares at the other owners and they just release their dogs. Night barks twice. Causing all the dogs to stand up. She barks again, and the dogs run inside of the building. She runs in behind them. The video stay put and we couldn’t see what was going on inside. A dog runs out carrying a person. It wasn’t Night, but one of her siblings. The dog lays down the person and runs back inside. A few more dogs come out carrying people and dropping them. I am sitting, wondering why Night is taking so long. When she jumps out of the second-story window carrying two kids.

She lands on the ground and runs back inside. Dogs keep coming and going inside and outside of the building. Each time the dogs took longer and longer time to go outside after they run inside of the building. And one after another they stop going inside. They covered in burns and falls to the ground. Each one carrying one person. The people they were carrying are dead. Night is once again the last dog inside of the building. As everyone was staring at the entrance to the building. Night crashes from the fourth floor with a baby in her mouth and her mother on her back. She crash to the ground hard.

Breaking her legs just to keep the baby and the mother safe. I put my head down and close my eyes. I can’t watch this anymore more. Death isn’t something that happens to us, but I have seen animals die. No way does that dog live through that. I can’t watch anymore. I don’t even want to think about this movie ever again. Because if I do? What is going to happen to us?
