《Mega Cringe: Dab》Chapter 2.3 - Memes

“Wow, you made your own region? After all, we really don’t know much about you.”
“What? No. I didn’t create this. The region is just called MyUniverse. It looks similar to HeadNovel because it was its predecessor. HeadNovel came out and destroyed it completely. Now there are ruins like these everywhere. The owners of the region refused to give up and continue supporting it turning it into something else, but ruins like these remained. There were even memes about its destruction, that’s how I even found out about this place. Memes…”
Arthur stopped talking. He continued staring outside of the window. After a while he continued quietly speaking.
“Memes. What are they? According to the definition you can find online it’s “an image, video or piece of text typically humorous in nature, that is copied and spread rapidly by Internet users, often with slight variations.” but is that really all a meme is? You could find a more detailed explanations of them, many pages long, but does that capture the essence of the meme? Will that explain to you what a meme really is? Does a meme even have to be something popular that millions of people will appreciate and know? I could go on and on about questions as to what the meme truly is but it doesn’t matter. The answer to what a meme is everyone knows, whether they realise it or not. A meme gives purpose. Maybe that purpose is to be hated, maybe it’s to be loved or maybe it’s to be destroyed. But how do you capture the true essence of it through just words? You can’t. In order to fully capture the essence of a meme you need to experience it yourself. The feeling of finding that one true meme is priceless. No matter how many years pass you will be able to experience it over and over again, and only you will know how that feels. Some might not yet have discovered that meme but they will eventually, everyone does. No matter how much you try to describe it to others they won’t be able to understand it unless they themselves have experienced it. You said you didn’t know anything about me, so let me tell you something. Long time ago I owned a sector dedicated to distributing memes. It was a well developed and popular sector, I had many followers. Whenever a new meme came out I’d be one of the first ones to pick it up and edit it exactly like people wanted to. It was easy, combine meme and a meme and you get a better meme, or so people believed. I was gaining more and more power while the quality of memes dropped. Soon enough I became hated and gained many enemies but my followers remained, and even kept increasing, My memes finally hit the lowest quality possible, and I don’t mean in Deep Fried style. They were basic and appealed only to the most shallow of people, to people who didn’t truly appreciate memes. With my influence the meme quality became worse and they died quicker. My enemies couldn’t stand it anymore and attacked me. I lost everything I had. Once I was defeated they didn’t kill me, instead they placed a curse on me. A curse of never being able to find my one true meme. After that defeat I remembered who I used to be. A child who had a large passion for creating memes. And so I started my journey to reignite my passion for memes. I explored as many as I could, from the depth of the Deep Fried dimension to the commercial heights of Normie memes. I learned to appreciate memes for what they truly are. And I decided to create memes once again, but not to sell them but just to entertain. So I traveled many sectors creating many memes that people sometimes enjoyed, sometimes hated, sometimes just looked weird at me. But I had fun. I thought my life was complete, that it couldn’t get better than that. Then one day I created a meme for this random guy I met for the first time in my life. Just looking at him I could tell that was his true meme. A meme that will give him purpose and happiness in his life and I realised I will never have anything such as that. I lost all will for living after that, spending most of my time in the Deep Fried dimension hoping its insanity would take me over and release me of any thoughts. It never happened as you can see, my passion for memes never let me lose on purpose so I remained myself until I found you. But then I saved you, and something reignited inside of me. I decided to help you and join you, with the purpose of conquering the world and creating the ultimate meme. A meme to surpass all memes. One that would not offend anyone and at the same time be entertaining to everyone. To do the impossible. If I couldn’t ever reach true happiness then I would use all my powers to help others do it. But even that purpose of mine is crushed now.”

Terin was standing silently carefully listening to Arthur. Terin felt Arthur’s sadness and wanted to help him but he didn’t know what to say. He wasn’t good at comforting people. Just being silent wasn’t alright either so he decided to focus on the task, how to accomplish it and how to deal with all the problems.
“Your dream doesn’t have to stop because of this. The EU might be chasing us but that doesn’t mean we have to bow our heads to them. Once we get enough backing from the public they won’t be able to recklessly attack us and the more territory we get the more fans will follow. We’ll start off slow but we’ll be able to pull it off. Instead of feeling down look for the first target to strike.”
Arthur finally turned to Terin. He hopelessly smiled.
“You haven’t read the news, have you? The EU are banning memes.”
“What?! That’s impossible! The EU might be strong but they wouldn’t risk angering the people that much. That’s insane! They must have said why.”
“They did. They declared what they are doing is stopping people from stealing memes but people who understand in their world altering powers could clearly see that this is in actuality a ban on memes. The little amount of memes that survive from this will not be enough and the entire culture will crumble. The world as we know it will completely change.”

My second life in a fantasy world
Important Announcement: English is not my first language, sorry for the mistakes After living a long life on earth, it was finally time to leave, bedridden in a hospital, surrounded by a large family, between sobs and sad goodbye glances, bearing many memories, some good, some bad, funny moments, sad moments, happy moments, tragic moments, I finally closed my eyes and plunged into the abyss of darkness and what awaited me on the other side was ... An old ex-mercenary hungry for adventure is reincarnated in a world of swords and magic, with no trap powers, just his own strength, wits, and outlandish friends. P.S. I am a totally amateur writer, I write just for fun, I am working on illustrations with another person, I plan to put one on the cover of each chapter reflecting its content. At the moment I already have partially assembled the story, I just need to polish a little, the rhythm in which the chapters appear may vary. The original version in Spanish can be found here for the curious https://www.wattpad.com/myworks/250682744-mi-segunda-vida-en-un-mundo-de-fantas%C3%ADa

Luck And Chronomancy
Time Magic is the best magic as everyone knows, although there are lots of unique Talents in the world. Most people only remember Haste because it is hard to get to higher Phases of Chronomancy. That is still enough to make the Talent iconic. A lucky enough Aleatory Talent can position you for greatness or leave you languishing in obscurity. The only true equality in the world is when that glowing message pops up at 8 years old. Even if it doesn't activate until you are an adult at 16 you still know. Sure you can find a new dungeon spawn and get another chance at a rare Talent, even this one, but you have to already be ready to delve into the *Far Wilds*, which is far easier with wealth or family power. This is the story of where my good fortune took me and the difference it made, even among a party of 7 others including an Arcanist. It is a journey of magic and monsters but also math, which some think is actually worse. Luckily I was born with Intelligence and Focus as my personal traits, and my parents were scholars. Of course Chronomancy can also be a frontline combat talent. Versitility well beyond other Elder Talents like Gravity, Abstraction, or Arcana. Might could have worked for me, too. I also met a runaway princess. All the best adventures have a princess. She hated being a noble and we didn't get married but it still counts. Besides she really filled out our front line. All that Leadership training came in handy. I still don't know where she's from. Who cares? How well Haste goes with giant hammers is what's important. I never learned much about anyone in the party, except the one I grew up with. I'm not a people person. I just wanted to optimize dungeon clearing time. *******Story Details******* No romance, politics, or traumatizing content, slice of life, or even dialogue. 1st person narration, like a guide/adventure log. 2000-7000 words a day, maybe 40-60% rpgish combat log with some reasoning on combat decisions, with the rest character Talent discussion and progression stuff. 8 person party with a decent variety in roles. Party members usually have 2 primary functions. Told from the support/control Chronomancer's perspective. Each party member will have 6 Basic/Background Traits, then 3 actual Talents with abilities. Capstone from their Educational Institution, Arbritrary as a gift from the temples, and Aleatory which is decided at birth, revealed at 8, and activated after adulthood at 16. Aleatory Traits ignore requirements and are random why is why they are so important. They'll gain new Talents from finding Dungeons to consume in the *Wilds*. Mature dungeons in cities can provide *Challenges* to raise the Phase of a Talent, up to 3 times from 1 to 4. Each character will get to roughly 8 non-Trait Talents. Attributes come exclusive from Talents, are required by Talents, and provide various effects as well. I designed about 220 Talents with abilities, 4 in each of 4 phases. "Traits" are just Attribute stuff. I'm not sure how many will be detailed in the story, more than 100 for sure. I used Talents because I want to be free of the legacy of tabletop. Half those rules are just because of the limitations inherent in a pre-computer ttrpg. This story mostly uses combat Talents, although like 1/3 of the 220 are for crafting and other society and economy stuff. If you really wanted to be a Thief you might take Intuition, Awarness, and Might for Basic Traits and Deftness, Manipulation, and Trickery for Family/Education. Then you'd pick Acrobatics, and Climbing for Educational Capstone and Arbitrary traits. You Aleatory Trait might be Shadow(Light/Dark) Magic, Umbramancy. A Bard might swap Dexterity for Charisma, Music for Acrobatics, and have gotten Illusion(Shadow/Sound(Air/Force)) for their Aleatory Trait.
