《Mega Cringe: Dab》Chapter 15 - Intermission

“You should rest a bit.”
“Look bro, I respect you and all but if you tell me once again what to do, you’ll regret it. Got that?”
Terin lay down on the bed.
“Just to be clear. I wanted to sleep anyway, I am not doing this because you told me. Got that?”
“Yeah I am sorry. I’ll leave you now.”
Copy left the room and let out a deep sigh. She wasn’t sure how to treat Terin. Was he her enemy or was he still an ally? He seemed like an ally but she wasn’t sure for how long. His ego was so inflated that she doubted that he would listen to Arthur’s orders. She decided not to worry about it and let Arthur handle it. She went into his office and lay on the sofa.
30 minutes passed and Copy was woken up from her nap by a loud bang. Arthur had kicked open the doors to enter.
“Why did you kick the doors? What’s wrong with entering normally?”
“Don’t you ever get the urge to open doors by kicking them?”
“No! Nobody normal has urges like that! Anyway, we got a problem with Terin. Something happened to him and now his ego is the size of the sun. ”
“I see. The previous boss of this place kept a file on all their employees. I think I saw something like this in Terin’s file. Let me check.” - Arthur turned on his PC and after a few clicks he quickly found the file he was looking for. - “Alright, it seems like this is it. “People who continually use dab powers tend to slowly change their personality. Their ego keeps growing to immeasurable proportions. Most people don’t have enough power to create a strong dab or use dab long enough for this to happen. Terin seems to be immune to this. His dabs are powerful beyond compare but he remains steadfast. Unfortunately Terin suffers from another problem. Dab Overload. Once a person expends the dab powers within them they cannot use them anymore. But there is a way to break that limit. By sacrificing your mind your body will be able to continue using dab powers infinitely but your ego will grow to enormous proportions. Overtime their dab powers will get weaker until the point where they have no effect. There is no cure for it.” This is indeed a problem. We must find Marculius Zurcberius as soon as possible. We have no clue how fast he is losing his powers.”

“Shouldn’t we try to find the cure first?”
“It clearly said in the file that there is none. It’d just be a waste of time.”
“But we have to try! Don’t you care about how your subordinates feel?”
“What does that have to do with anything? You think Terin loves using dab techniques to fight? You two are together all the time yet I understand him better than you do. He only fights by dabbing because it’s one of the options given to him. Dabbing is an art form to him. As long as he can dab it doesn’t matter if it gives him power or not, he will be happy.”
Copy stopped and thought about it. What Arthur said was definitely true. But she was Terin’s fan for a long time and now she was his partner and she never saw him once fight with anything other than dabs. She just couldn’t imagine Terin fighting any other way. As she was thinking about it another bang startled her. Terin kicked open the doors.
“Why did you do that?”
“Why not? Don’t you ever have the urge to open doors by kicking them?”
Copy looked back towards Arthur. He had a smug look on his face. She started to wonder how is she the most normal one.
“What are you two talking about? We have a mission to end and I want it done as soon as possible. I haven’t had a proper sleep in days.”
“About that. We got good news and we got bad news.”
“Well bad news can’t stay bad for long, so hit me with those first.”
“Your condition is critical. Your dab powers will leak until your dabs become completely powerless.”
“Hahahaha, is that what you are worried about? My power is limitless, it’s gonna take a millenia for them to go out. I at least hope your good news are actually good.”
“Good news is we are ready to go into the Deep Fried dimension. But before we go there Julian said he has some weapons for Copy so you two should head there first. I’ll wait for you in Bored Burgers”.
Copy’s worries turned out to be false. Terin still listened to Arthur orders. On top of that she is even getting a new weapon. Terin might be more arrogant than before but it was still him. She relaxed and was back in her usual cheery mood. They quickly arrived to the workshop. Loud rap music was blasting as usual. Julian was at his workshop sleeping once again. They got to his workplace and Terin woke him up by kicking him in the shin. He instantly jumped up.

“I am not asleep!”
“I don’t care if you sleep or not, it’s not my job to take care of that. Arthur told us you had something for us.”
“Well it’s for Copy, I have nothing for you.”
He pulled out a long black computer chip. Terin had no clue what it was but Copy’s eye was shining. Julian could see Terin’s confusion so he decided to explain it to him.
“This is a TouTu:b:e weapon. Every android in TouTu:b:e is equipped to be able to wield weapons like this. It’s in its formless state right now but once we insert it into Copy...” - Julian made a pause because of how weird it sounded but no one else seemed to get it so he quickly continued. - “... then she’ll be able to create it herself. Basically think of this as a program and her body as an executable file. Let me just show you instead.”
Copy already knew what Julian wanted to do so she extended her arm towards him. He grabbed it and 4 long empty spaces appeared on her arm.
“Dude, this is amazing, you can actually hold 4 weapons simultaneously? We didn’t know we had such a beast here.”
‘4? I can hold 7. Look.”
As she said that she extended her other arm and 3 more spaces appeared. Julian was amazed but he could see that Terin didn’t understand anything that was going on.
“Most TouTu:b:e machines can’t hold more than 2 weapon mods. Only the elite of the elite can hold up to 4. There was never anyone who could hold more than that. 7 mod slots is godlike, if I knew you had that I’d craft even better things.”
“If I am godlike then what is CPR-S? That thing can hold up to 15 mod slots.”
“Look, I don’t get what you nerds are talking about, nor do I care. Do what you came here for so we can go.”
Julian just noticed there was something off about Terin. He was a bit scared and felt like every second wasted was pissing off Terin even more. He hurriedly inserted the mod and told Copy to try it. A large metal box with a drill attached to it appeared instead of her hand. The size of it was as big as half of Copy. It got her off balance and the drill crashed onto the table. She got used to it and lifted her arm again, examining the weapon.
“Now I know you are wondering about that giant box the drill is attached. That’s your ammo box. Once you drill into something you can extend the tip to go outwards. Good for holding onto something or planting something from your ammo box. Currently you have mines, bombs and you can discharge electricity. Just be careful not to overuse it and shut down.”
“I don’t run on electricity.”
“Oh… I didn’t mean to sound racist. Anyway you will figure it out yourself too. It’s your body after all. That’s all I had to say. Enjoy!”
Julian watched them leave and as soon as the doors closed he went back to sleep on his desk.
Terin and Copy arrived at Bored Burgers. It was empty compared to the last time Terin came here. They went in the kitchen and Arthur was waiting for them there.
“What took you so long? Whatever, I got what you needed. But be careful. It might be uncomfortable or even painful.”
Arthur grabbed Terin by the shoulder and punched him with the palm of his hand. Terin stumbled back a bit. He could feel something coursing through his body. But there was nothing painful about it.
“How do you feel?”
“Nothing. I guess I am just that good to not feel pain.”
“I guess you didn’t need protection in your current state, but better safe than sorry. Let’s go”
They entered the freezer.

Re-Ordaining of the Chosen
Alea cheerfully hummed as she descended the steps, brimming in upbeat while her colleague, Quarren Leos, shot her a look of skepticism. “So… were you right about him?” he asked doubtfully. She came to a stop for a moment, her humming falling silent before she shook her head, waving her medium length light-blonde hair from side to side. “I was wrong about him.” Quarren raised an eyebrow in confusion at the convoluted response.“But you seem quite happy?” he asked again. “Because I am. But I was wrong about him. He was… so much more than I ever expected.” Alea looked at the sky overhead with a smile. “That boy… no, that man, is amazing. I firmly believe he will come to stand on top of any adversary he faces. He is destined. He is Chosen.” Quarren snorted as he stepped past, shaking his head. “Okay. Each to their own beliefs but you’re sounding like a nutjob. That skinny twig? Everyone calls him a cripple, you know,” he shook his head.“Rumours are always false, Leos,” Alea answered with a disapproving shake of her head. “You wouldn’t know. He is so, so much more.” “I saw him with my own two eyes. I didn’t see anything redeeming,” Quarren rebutted. “Well…” Alea chuckled. “You haven’t seen what I’ve seen.” In the year 917 of the Imperial Calendar, the Great War had just ended between dozens of nations.
