Nameless heard a whisper. [Do not be fooled, young one, the camps are merely a distraction from the untainted beauty of the jungle. Thou art to run into the jungle, find and stand on a large rock and with all haste, perform a ritualistic rain-dance to bask in the glory of the jungle. These are orders from above and you musn't disobey]
The man looked at the city. Then he looked at the inn and finally stared at the camps. The human frowned. It's just a trap of so-called “civilization”. The rich people want to fool me. They want me to leave a beauty of nature and force me to live in this “civilization”.
Nameless realized that he was too close to make the greatest mistake in his life. How blind I was! I wanted to find a city, but my salvation is within the jungle! Mother-nature awaits me!
The human imagined his performance of a ritualistic rain-dance on the large rock. It's beautiful! And it's the only way to show my utter respect to the Mother-nature!
Thus, Nameless turned around and ran towards the jungle. Now he didn't feel tired anymore. He just wished to perform this sacred act as soon as possible!
The man ran into the jungle. He was excited! He craved to bask in the glory of the jungle! It shall be awesome!
Unexpectedly the human ran into the spiderweb.
“Damn!” Nameless halted to shake a large spider off. “Damn! Get off!!!”
He managed to do it. For a moment a will of the great spirit weakened.
Goddammit! What am I doing?! I don't need to run in the jungle to find a big rock to dance upon it! That's a mad idea! What I really need is to...
A will of the great spirit became strong again. Find a large rock!

Nameless realized that it was a logical decision. A large and high rock is a right place for a good performance. It's just a pity that no one could see me today.
The last thought even saddened the human a little.
The man resumed his running. He still needed to find a proper rock for his great performance! But it wasn't easy to run in the jungle. Many liana - as well as other plants - blocked his path. If only I have a sword or machete! Besides, it was a night outside.
Currently Nameless couldn't move fast. He often halted to squeeze right between threes or thick liana.
The human was in a hurry, thus he didn't notice a snake in the overgrown jungle. He stepped on it. As a result, the snake bit his leg.
The man screamed and jumped back. Then he grabbed his leg, feeling numbness in the limb. Nameless was scared! He realized where he was and what had happened with him just now! It shall be poison!
Currently the human didn't have a wish to find any stupid rock anymore! He began to lose control over his body, experiencing a headache. Poison ran in his veins.
“Damn spirits! You have killed me, merciless beings! I will die!” the man cursed and then sobbed. “But I don't want... I hate you all... Damn spirits...”
Nameless felt as his heart began to beat very fast. A speed of blood circulation increased tremendously.
My heart! He grabbed his chest, experiencing a terrible pain in this organ.
“I... I don't want... Please... save me... anyone...”
The man fell down. Currently he couldn't utter a word. Nameless couldn't even feel his body anymore. I'm dying.
Unexpectedly he heard those voices. They whispered, giggled, and argued now.
Do you hear me, voices?

To his surprise, Nameless realized that they heard him.
Who are you? Why do you toy with me, voices? Can you save me? Please?
[Just giggle!] I am not obliged to answer my plaything!

Interlude
A human in an armor entered the luxurious room. He strode to the two elves - who sat in the chairs with sweet smiles on their faces – and bowed respectfully to them.
“Your Handsomeness!”
The elf in a red robe beamed and put a mirror on the small table.
“Your Smartness!”
The elf in the blue robe - who wore a pair of glasses - nodded and placed a book on his own small table.
“Speak.” the elf in red ordered.
“I brought your orders to the Inquisition. They will dispatch a team to catch that man who had stolen the Saliva Flask.”
The elf in red said. “But the members of that team must be handsome men.”
“And smart.” the elf in blue added.
“Yes-yes! That's true. Only handsome and smart people can execute our orders properly!”
“I understood.” The man bowed respectfully and walked to the exit while the elf in red took a mirror. “Um... I'm so handsome.”

Demons Don't Lie
Algier, average human and recent convict, has committed the gravest sin of all: demon slaying. His fate? To participate in the Culling, a battle-royale style tournament that’s televised live to the world, where all the worst criminals go to die. As with all tournaments, a prize is on the line. If Algier survives, he can have any wish granted by the Marquises, the new rulers of Earth following the demons’ invasion. However, there’s little hope for survival in a tournament designed to have demons do the work of the executioner, especially for a human. Demons are stronger, faster, wiser, and more talented than the average human, and, despite his crime, Algier is no demon hunter. Mentally defeated before the tournament even begins, Algier is torn between becoming another demon’s points and fighting on in his dead mother’s legacy. But should he choose to fight, there is one advantage that Algier has that can tip the odds in his favour: Demons don’t lie, but humans can. How to read this story Demons Don't Lie is written from the perspective of an unreliable (lying) narrator. There are many inconsistencies within the story which are placed there intentionally. It's up to the reader to decide what is the truth and what is the lie. Promotion Full quality cover image
