《War of the gods [Forum game]》Chapter 3. Why do you follow me?

The voices continued to argue fiercely. Many of them screamed, complained, bragged, and accused each other. But they all had the same purpose. Each voice wanted to be heard by Nameless. Each voice offered its own advice. Finally one of them became strong enough to whisper clearly: [You should watch those humans for a bit! They could be dangerous.]
“I shall watch them... for a bit...” Nameless repeated slowly and then realized. They can be indeed dangerous! Those people can kill, enslave, or even sacrifice me to their god if they are cultists.
The man sneaked in the jungle, holding his sword. He was on the alert now, looking around. An enemy can be close!
Nameless moved stealthily and gradually, listening to the surrounding.
Damn! This jungle is overgrown! And there are so many insects here! The human thought and remembered that some of them can be poisonous. Besides, pythons can sleep on the trees. Damn!
He looked up but saw only lush foliage. It's impossible to notice a snake there.
The man moved further and – after a brief time – he realized. Liana are block my path!
This plant grew everywhere here. Therefore, Nameless hadn't a choice and began to hack a path through the jungle. Now he could hardly see the temple through the lush foliage.
I need to turn a little closer to the temple or I will get lost.
~~~~~~
After some time Nameless halted. What the fuck am I doing here?!
The man was tired, hungry, and thirsty. Thus he was angry.
He looked at the spiderweb that hung close to him and noticed a large spider that sat in the middle. The human had an impulse to strike the arachnid with a sword but quickly killed this wish. It's meaningless! Besides, he was a little afraid of the spider.
The human looked around. The surrounding was blocked by the jungle, except a path that he had hacked earlier.
Did that voice give me a bad advice? Nameless thought.
He realized that the advice wasn't bad. Those people can be dangerous. That's true. I don't know who they are.
Perhaps, that spirit who gave me this advice is a good one? The human thought and continued to hack a path through the jungle.
~~~~~~
The human hid in the lush foliage and watched the people who worked nearby the temple. They all wore green tunics of poor quality. A pair of eyes was drawn on back of every tunic. Additionally, Nameless noticed that each man had a knife and only few had machetes.
It's normal to have a weapon in such surrounding. A lot of predators live in the jungle, The man thought and shot a glance behind.
He didn't see humans or animals. That's good.
Nameless slapped his cheek and killed an insect, cursing in a low tone. Many insects here loved his blood.
Currently the human sweat and dreamed only about water. Besides, he was tired.
Now he doubted in that voice's kindness. Perhaps, that voice just wanted to see my suffering in the jungle?
Suddenly the human noticed as an old man left the working people and walked towards the jungle. After a brief time the said man walked into the jungle close to Nameless.
Nameless moved after his target stealthily, but it was useless. The old man lived here likely all his life. Hence, he as if disappeared in the jungle. The human couldn't find him. Nameless just looked around in a hope to see the old man in vain.
“Damn...” he whispered.
All of a sudden the said old man stepped out from the lush foliage and smiled. “I bless you in the name of our Lord, stranger. Why do you follow me?”

We speak in the same language? That's good.
Nameless wanted to answer but again heard those damn voices. They whispered all at once. He could recognize just a few whispers.
[Show him your respect. Show him that you don't mean any harm. Ask the old man about help.]
[Rob him! His tunic looks old and worthless but it's okay, man! Sell it later to someone!]
[Show him your respect and then try to lead him deeper in the jungle!]
[Kneel in front of him! He has a beard! He must be smart!]
[Befriend with the old man! You can be the best buddies! And don't forget to pinch his cheek!]
[Offend the old man somehow. For instance, say that he is a fool. The old people like such attitude, man!]
[Turn around and leave! You don't need any help from this old man! I assure you, buddy, this is a right behavior in such situation!]

AN: This story is an attempt to overcome insecurity regarding the quality of my writing by practicing with intentional schlock. "Just write," as the advice goes. While it may not be masterfully plotted, the subject matter is one close to my heart and one that I endeavor to explore in a new light.
