Chapter 8
Every night there were two guards on duty. For some reason, only one kept watch that night. Matthew had called the four of them and said, “Let’s do as we planned in case a time like this came. Avni and I will escape from the left side, Dae and Aroon from the right after we overpower the guard. Anshul meanwhile, will call the police and come back.”
The kids were kept like cattle in a pen. They were allowed out in the morning into a wider alley but at night they were crammed into the small alleyway. Once they overpowered the guard, the kids could go into the wider alley from where they had two escape routes, one from the left and one from the right.
“We’ll escape to find the police. Yeah, we are calling them but if we can escape and find them even more quickly, we can get the little kids out faster. Because if we don’t, the others will know by morning that the guard was knocked out so the police might have been called and they might just slaughter us all.
Anshul, one of us needs to stay back to take care of the kids. You seem to be loved the most,” The other four had sniggered a bit at that, “So, you should stay back. We’ll do our best.”
The five of them KOed the guard easily enough. They had parted ways then. Anshul had taken the guard’s phone and dialled 100. He informed the police and quickly went back inside the pen. Within five minutes, he heard shouting and cries.
A loud voice roused all the kids. As they were rubbing their eyes, Matthew walked into view. He stood outside the pen and was visible to everyone. He looked at Anshul, smiled and mouthed a “sorry”, before a bullet smacked into the side of his head. Anshul heard sniffles and then Avni was pushed into view. He could see tears in her eyes which she quickly wiped away before looking at the kids and mouthed “family” to Anshul before she met the same fate. Then Dae walked into view and finally Aroon.

The kids were howling. Anshul just sat there immobilised in shock. Even tears wouldn’t come.
Adheash then sauntered into view and looked over the kids, “Anyone else wants to escape? If you want, I can set you free...from this world, that is.” He had then called Anshul, “You are the oldest here, right? Come out.”
The youngster just sat there without moving or saying a word. He was incapable of doing anything but then Adheash suddenly trained his gun on Nia.
In that split-second, Anshul came back to his senses and stood up protectively in front of Nia.
He slowly walked out and Adheash beat the crap out of him, repeating again and again, “Make sure no one tries to escape or I will kill every single one. I can find other kids to replace you all. Got it?!”
Anshul had been lying on the ground when the man had raised his gun and shot him in the thigh. The pain had nearly knocked him out but somehow Anshul managed to crawl into the pen. Suddenly, the heard cries and gunshots very near to them.
The police. They are here.
Anshul had sighed in relief and looked back. He saw a look he had never expected to see on the gang leader’s face- fear.
The man looked towards the kids and Anshul managed to sit up and grabbed Nia tightly to be a shield for her in case the man shot at them but Nia not understanding what was happening pushed him and with his weak leg he couldn’t remain sitting any longer. He felt onto his back and saw Adheash aiming at him. He could see the barrel of the gun and Adheash’s finger tightening around it.
At the last moment, he pushed himself sideways and the bullet missed him by an inch. Pushing himself into a standing position, Anshul turned and ran but his leg failed him. He was close to a wall and almost cracked his head on it but swerved at the last second to avoid a head-on collision. Even so, the back of his head hit the wall and just before he lost consciousness he heard a gunshot.

Apex Predator
Earth is a fairly small place, but it's all Bath has. It's the only home he's ever known for all of his 500-or-so-million years of life. One day, Bath realized his treasured Earth was being drawn into the next mass extinction ahead of schedule. So, fascinated by the humans and their quick rise to power (after all, setting off a mass extinction is a pretty sizable achievement), what's a nearly all-powerful, somewhat bored, morally ambiguous, savagely violent, shapeshifting alien entity to do other than assume the form of a human and do some front-line investigating? Little did Bath know he would soon stumble upon a mysterious human organization with a gate leading to planets eons away. And that's just the beginning... A story with aliens, intergalactic space travel, mind powers, and an abundance of adventure! Author's note: ON HIATUS! Hello and thank you for reading! Constructive criticism and grammar-policing are both appreciated. Parts 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, and 6 are complete at 1271 pages! Part 7 is in progress! If you've ever read any other web serials, you might've noticed that authors get better with time (that is, their art or writing improves). Wutosama of Metaworld Chronicles noted that the first 20 chaps are always a mess. This is also the case with Apex Predator. The first two parts (ranging just under 30 chapters, or 161 pages) are absolutely subpar. While I have edited them as of 7-10-18, they require a rewrite, which is currently in the works but not complete. For a sample that gives insight into what the latter ~80% of the story's writing style is like, check out chapter 56. Vote for Apex Predator on Top Web Fiction! The Apex Predator Discord is here. Cover: original work done by me, the author, caerulex.

Edge of the Storm
A thousand years after narrowly escaping extinction, humanity still fights for survival on the fringe of space. On the alien, hostile world of Deana, Taro is tasked with dealing a mortal blow to an enemy that has pursued the last dregs of the human species across light years. From the Wild Summer hyper-carrier, Taro must strike out at an enemy that seems like it would stop at absolutely nothing to ensure humanity's time in the universe draws to an end. The key to it all is Valerie, a human bred super-weapon, and the discovery she makes aboard the enemy craft Delirium. What to expect from Edge of the Storm: You will find here a slow burning story that is punctured by moments of high flying action, intense mecha battles, gory hand-to-hand combat, tough decisions and sacrifices. What you won't find are black and white morals, harems, cute girls, big boobs, or anything else that might bring me troves of readers. You have been warned. Update schedule: Saturdays (and maybe Wednesdays).

The Plan
An infinite world couldn’t be real, but if it was, well this would happen. Imagine a world that isn’t covered in water, but an endless atmosphere. Plates of land, named “islands”, float and drift almost aimlessly. There is no sun, stars, roof, or floor; just boundless air in every direction. Light is generated from the movement of air flow. Magical and mystical powers keep islands floating and the world full of fresh entropy. Some of these floating islands drift upwards or downwards or any combination of volatile or patterned velocities. Air flow also follows the same characteristics of islands, which generates the light and heat. In a world with no horizon, the different inhabitants struggle. Beings calling them selves deities across the endless space are countless. If you were to fall off an island, you would inevitably hit another island; if you didn’t die from old age first. Many inhabitants don’t know the land further than their own eye sight or town they grew up in. Almost all inhabitants of islands have supernatural abilities, ranging in ability and skill. Magical abilities are kept individually; and mystical powers are borrowed. Islands float because the land is enchanted by either a magical or mystical crystal. Magical islands are known for vertical variance, while mystical islands are known for vertical stability. The islands rotate around focal points, known as 'the center'. There are many 'the center', but no one knows this yet... Warning: Tagged Mature 18+ for Strong Language, Gore, Violence, and sexual scenes. Google Drive (Click here to open new window) WIP/spoilers
