《A Short story collection》The baker

The baker drummed His fingers on the counter nervously, waiting for someone to arrive. Will They Come? They must be curious right? The baker sighed, and a little nugget of doubt as to if this would even work. He knew it was a long shot, but he couldn't give up now. Should I just give up? The man sighed, going to check the sign, which he really Should have done beforehand. The We are open sign was facing him, and he nearly smacked himself. With shaking hands, he flipped the sign open, and went to his counter, then sighed softly, looking at his pastries. He had put so much time and so much effort into them. He groaned, looking at one of the bobblehead statues he had placed in the windows and a Russian nesting doll on another. Am I missing anything? He thought to himself, then shook his head. Everything looked good to him at least, but he still had that feeling he was missing something. Hazel brown eyes went and scanned the room, a picture of the beachfront on it. The chairs were there as always, but there was something still missing. Then the silence hit him like a freight train. Ah-So that's what I was missing, will it ever be there? He shook himself out of his stupor and looked at one of his pastries. It was a velvet muffin, topped with an intricate wreath of flower designs and patterns, everything from rosy red to baby blue to even a soft gleaming white. He smiled, he had worked hard on that one. His eyes drifted to a chocolate muffin, the sugar particles on top gleaming the light like diamonds. He sighed again, wondering if anyone would come. He was getting anxious, as people started to pass by, occasionally pausing to view through the window. A strange woman in a long silky cherry red dress, with a cold indifferent expression, paused at the window. Her face morphed into a small smile, as her eyes drifted over, asking a question, and she smiled, her icy blue eyes seemingly matching the man’s twinkling brown ones as she entered the bakery, humming cheerfully. She paused at the sugar cupcakes, as the white seemed almost to glow almost iridescently, and sugar cubes gleamed like diamonds yet again. Cherry red lips pursed, seemingly considering buying the goods.

“How much,” She asked, pointing at one of the cupcakes, bringing the man out of his thoughts
“7.99 for one, but around 15.99 for a dozen” He replied, having run the calculations already, several times over. She nodded.
“I’ll take a dozen of the flower cupcakes” She said, and he nodded, going to the back to get a Box, and putting the cupcakes. “Any color preference Miss?” He yelled, and waited for her to answer.
“No, Assorted please” She yelled back, and he started to put the cupcakes, using them to form a shimmering rainbow, adding small amounts of sugar as necessary to make the cupcakes gleam. He came out the back with the box in his hands, and hummed cheerfully.
“Since you are my first customer Miss, you will also be getting a buy one get one free Coupon for future use” He said cheerfully, handing it to her, and then remembering something, he rushed in the back, and grabbed the business card holder and put it beside the register, putting cards neatly on. She grabbed one, and paid for the box of cupcakes as the baker waved “Come again Soon!” he said as she walked out with her Goods, and stuffed the business card, and her credit card in her pockets, leaving a very happy baker behind
