《Breaking The Game》Quest 53: Access A Domain

“Here we are, our humble abode!” Lust said. She shouted out with glee. The Unnamed Team followed behind her as she entered a massive chamber. The cold stone floor was cracked in several areas, but the entire ground was covered in a sort of sealant to cover its edges. Deposits of limestone connected the floor and ceiling at symmetrical intervals. The room’s main area was vacant, and its edges were lined with plenty of finely crafted tables and chairs. This was the ballroom of the Demon King’s castle.
“Two hours on horseback and an hour walk for this?” Nicholas said. Needless to say, he was unimpressed. This didn’t look like anything that belonged to the Demon King, the strongest monster in the world. It was rather drab. His team silently agreed, though only because the four had been spoiled by the capital’s riches. This place didn’t hold a candle to Quarters De Royale or the Kingdom of Diosevich’s castle. Then again, they were only guests and this was a place built by and for demons.
“Yeah, I would’ve thought it’d be more…fiery?” Xander said. This was far from what he expected. It was too nice. Too clean. Too tame. His confusion was understandable. It was mostly because of his preconceived notion about demons and the like from his own religious teachings. Hell was supposed to be a place of ever-burning fires and torture. Demons were supposed to be monsters that thrived off of suffering. Everything was supposed to be designed to make a person miserable, yet it wasn’t.
“We don’t live in the underworld,” A voice said. The Unnamed Team looked around in confusion. This was someone new. They immediately got into defensive positions. Could this be the final boss? Was the team about to get eliminated before they could slay any more sins? The truth was more lackluster than what they expected. Lust waved her hand and approached a table where a lone woman sat.

This was the final embodiment of sin that the team would meet, Gluttony. Despite her namesake, she was a thin woman to an almost sickly degree. Her armor offset that frail figure by being extremely dense. That was because it was created from the carcasses of five dragons. With her armor, Gluttony was essentially immune to five elements: fire, frost, lightning, acid, and poison. The top layer of her armor was from a copper dragon and seemed to struggle at keeping its lower layers at bay. Gluttony looked much thicker than she actually was. Her armor almost seemed like it couldn’t contain itself and would burst at the seams, but no one would ever point that out.
“Uh-huh, we live in a castle that's in a cave that's full of demons,” Lust said with a smile. She gestured out to the room once more as if to say look at it. She looked back and forth between the room and the heroes, hoping they’d understand. Her words were meant to inspire and provide insight into her home, but they only added to the growing confusion.
“Right…not hell,” Rex said. As Xander said earlier, the only thing that was missing was an ever-present and overabundance of fire. This place had demons. It was underground. A looming fear sat on the shoulders of anyone that didn't truly belong there. Death could be lurking around any corner. Hell wasn’t a bad comparison.
The team recalled what their trip up till now consisted of. It starts with hours on horseback. Naturally, a domain filled with demons couldn’t be terribly close to human settlement. They were then forced to walk through the realm’s confounding maze of halls and rooms. After an hour of that, they finally arrived at the ballroom they stood in now. Every step of the way was tedious, and every demon they encountered along the trip wanted to kill them. Lust would have to step in every time to tell them not to fight. Thankfully, her position as a sin meant that she had authority over all lesser demons.

“Should we really be here?” Robyn whispered to her friends. Lust and Gluttony were chatting amongst themselves. It was the perfect opportunity to talk as a team. They hadn’t been able to privately converse since they departed on the trip, and Robyn was feeling uneasy.
“Yeah, why not?” Xander whispered back. He didn’t see a problem with their current situation. Why would he? [Lust] was hindering his mental capacity…as was his own lust. It was hard to resist the temptation, especially after seeing all of the succubi that work under their companion. Truly, his mind was hazed.
“Lust literally just said we’re in a castle that’s in a cave that’s full of demons. That doesn’t feel wrong to you?” Robyn yelled at her friend through a whisper. This was getting ridiculous. She pinched her brow and prayed she wasn’t this stupid when it came to Prince Morgan. If she was, she at least hoped someone on her team would try to snap her out of it.
“Is it supposed to?” Rex whispered. He was much like Xander, in that he was a male and idiotic. There wasn’t a problem with what Robyn was saying. Yes, they were practically surrounded by demons in what was essentially the underworld, but they also had Lust who was more than willing to protect them.
“Hello? We’re heroes, remember?! We’re the four morons that killed five sins and then just waltzed into their home like we own the place!” Robyn said. Her whisper was practically gone at this point. It was hard to control her voice’s volume when her anger was overflowing.
“I mean, we were invited,” Nicholas said. It seemed like common sense to him. They were invited. Hence, they were welcome to be there and wouldn't get attacked. That was the wishful thinking Robyn was desperately trying to point out the flaws in.
“Are you fuc-” Robyn tried to say but cut off.
“What are you guys talking about?” Lust said. She turned her head and smiled at The Unnamed Team. She and Gluttony had finished their conversation, and they were eager to hear what the heroes thought about their home.
“Nothing,” The four immediately responded.
