《I've Transmigrated... with a Broken System》Chapter 16 - Herbs

As the sign for The Misty Tree tavern came into Renard's vision, he decided that he should be far enough away from Beth’s gear to not get caught. He felt no guilt about the incident, as it clearly was the system's fault. The thought of Beth’s reaction to seeing stew all over her floor was enough to make Renard want to get the hell out of there. The mental image he had seemed quite bloody.
‘Jeez, these stupid system errors are going to get me killed. It's not like I've been hurt yet, but at this rate, it is coming sooner rather than later.’ The vision of Beth's reaction is still fresh in his mind.
Renard stood off to the side of the road to try and catch his breath. His mind started to wander, and his face became blank. He unconsciously began to think of the ways the system could get him killed. One particular scenario had Renard in front of a king.
‘What if the system broke the king like it did to the door? How am I supposed to escape from that with my life?’ He thought.
Renard shook his head to chase away those worrying thoughts. He didn’t have time to be wasting on useless ifs and maybes, ‘If it happens, I will just have to find a way to deal with it.’
Renard sighed, ‘Right now, I need to get more quests done. That way, I can get that cultivation technique from that Lord. But first, I need to actually find some quests.’
‘If I remember correctly, the system said something about finding quests the other day. What exactly did it say again?’ His brow crumpled into a frown as he desperately tried to remember what the system had said.
Renard harrumphed, ‘Damn it! Why can’t I remember? It was literally yesterday.’
He quickly gave up and thought, ‘I’ll just search for it. System, search for Quest, and locate.’

‘No wonder I couldn’t remember, it’s bloody vague. Now, how should I go about doing this? It says to just think? How hard can that be?’ Renard started to think. That's if thinking was the act of just focusing on the word quest that is.
Phillip had just finished picking up some food and decided that he should find some shade to eat in. After walking for a while, he decided to lean against one of the buildings such that the roof would shelter him from the sun.
The wall wasn’t the comfiest, but it was better than being out in the blazing sun. Looking down to the hard bread in his hands, he thought to himself, ‘It’s not tasty, or nice, but it’s cheap.’ He took a bite out of it, having to put extra effort into chewing. Whilst doing so, he glanced at the other side of the road and saw a terrifying sight. There was a man with a disgusting expression on his face.
Veins were bulging, eyebrows were slanted, eyes were wide open, and his face was bright red. ‘What the hell is that, so much for this being a peaceful lunch spot.’ Phillip felt disgusted from a single glance at the thing, it was so bad, that he just had to walk away.
Of course, the person that he saw was Renard trying to use the Questing Function.
‘Quest, Quest, Quest, Quest, Quest, Quest, Quest, Quest, Quest, Quest, Quest.’ Was how Renard started.
‘QUEST, QUEST, QUEST, QUEST, QUEST, QUEST, QUEST, QUEST, QUEST.’ After 5 minutes, that's how Renard's thought looked.
Then after 10 minutes, which was when Phillip had seen him, he had been thinking like this: ‘QUUUUUESTTTTTT, QUUUUESSSTTTT, QUUUUESSST, QUESSSSSSSTTTTTTT.’ Now, although it seemed that Renard was just absolutely insane, he was actually feeling something every time he thought of the word quest. It got stronger each time, and the harder he thought about it, the more intense the feeling would be.
‘QUUUUUUUUUEEEEEEEEEEEEESSSSSSSSSTTTTTTTTTTTTT’
*DING*
[Quest Sense is now Level 1]
“YEEEEESSSSSS” Renard shouted out, which attracted some weird looks from the crowd, at least they didn't see him the same way Philip had.

‘I finally did it, I knew I felt something. Let’s see how it feels now. Quest.’ There was a nagging feeling coming from further down the street, it lasted for a few seconds before disappearing.
‘Wow, it never lasted that long before, it was usually only there for less than a second. Guess it was worth it. Now time to find where this quest is.’
Renard thought of the word again, and the strange feeling returned. Taking a second to orient himself, he started to walk in the direction that the feeling was coming from.
Every time the feeling left Renard, he would then think the word again. Eventually, after walking past a couple of buildings, the feeling led him inside the one in front of him.
It was small compared to the others on the street, there was barely enough room for a door to fit. ‘Looks like this is where the feeling is leading me. This building is tiny, must have been built in the gap between houses. Must not be the most profitable shop.’
Renard glanced at the sign above the door as he walked in ‘Jem’s Herbs hmm, must be some sort of fetch quest then.’
The door hit the wall with a thud as Renard underestimated how close the wall would be on the inside. He took a quick glance to check that he didn’t break anything, luckily he hadn’t. ‘Does fate have a weird grudge against doors, this is the second door related incident since I have been here.’
The inside of the store was just as small as it looked on the outside. Thankfully, it was quite long, so it wasn’t just a tiny cube. On the right-hand side of the shop, there were three shelves, with different herbs littered on them. To Renard, most of them looked the same, as most were green. He did notice that the leaves varied quite dramatically between them. However, Renard did not care enough to investigate.
‘Quest’ The feeling was towards the other end of the shop, where a girl was standing still next to one of the shelves. She looked as if she hadn’t noticed Renard’s entrance.
‘She must be the one I am looking for.’
Renard made his way towards her direction, the feeling got stronger and stronger the closer he got.
Once Renard got close enough to talk to the girl, the sensation almost felt like it was about to burst. The girl still wasn’t responding to his presence despite being close enough to talk to her.
“Um, Hello? Are you ok?” Renard asked.
She shook slightly and turned to look up at Renard and said. “Oh, sorry. I was thinking about something. How can I help you?” At this point, the weird sensation felt like it exploded inside his head.
*DING*
[You have completed the requirements to locate a Quest, would you like to start the Quest scenario?]
‘Oh, Yes please.’ Renard thought, surprised to see the system after the explosion.
The girl then took a step back and looked Renard up and down. Then got on her knees and begged, “Wait, you look like an adventurer, please can you help me, I beg you.”
‘Since when do people in giraffe pyjamas look like adventures.’ thought Renard.
“Please it’s my brother, he went out to collect more herbs and hasn’t been back for two days. He should be back by now!” She continued.
*DING*

Also available on Audible! After centuries of endless wars, the three greatest nations of the continent have come together in peace. As a symbol of their cooperation, they have worked together to establish the Grand Academy of Spiritual, Martial, and Arcane Arts, a place where the best and brightest of each nation can gather on neutral ground and share knowledge, techniques, and cultures. Can the peace truly last, or is the academy just another proxy for the constant conflicts the three nations face? None of that matters to Lee Jia, a homeless young girl who's biggest concern is surviving the winter. But when she accidentally stumbles into the academy in search of a new place to stay, her destiny is changed forever. Determined to carve out a new place for herself and make the most of her good fortune, Lee Jia dives head first into the world of magic and martial arts. Fates Parallel is my first serious attempt at writing a story, and a personal love letter to Eastern fantasy and xianxia stories. It's heavily inspired by East Asian culture, folklore, and mythology, with what is likely going to be a decidedly Western artistic license. I try to write every day, with a goal of about 45,000 words per month (~1500 per day). Chapter lengths are around 3000 words on average, releasing on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays. Cover art drawn by the incredibly talented Tsuu (TsurotArtistry).

Single Mother Cultivator: Determination to deny her naïve son a terrible destiny
Lucia Martinez had to fight for every little victory in her life, especially when she was responsible for raising a teenage son by herself. But when the teen gets summoned to another world by a dysfunctional martial sect as their would-be savior, she’ll have to fight harder than ever just to get him back. Brought along to a world of Eastern fantasy, Lucia finds herself face to face with obscure magical creatures, various rich cultures, and a familiar yet unique chi-based magic system that every faction has their own way of looking at. Single Mother Cultivator is as the title suggests, a Cultivation novel. Unlike other Cultivation stories, this one focuses on multiple Asian mythologies rather than just Chinese myth, and isn’t just a generic power fantasy. It explores the very nature of strength itself, and how it could and should be used. The foundational power system is the same for both major factions, with differences in their philosophies on how to pursue it. New chapters on Mon-Wed-Fri

My Life As A Superhero Slash Supervillain
James Jude Jamison is experiencing something a bit odd. He was sitting quietly at his computer desk, playing some kind of RPG, he couldn't which one, although the fate of the universe rests on him remembering which (Oh well, it had to end sometime). So, anyway, suddenly, out of nowhere, he got a bit of a headachne, his nose started to bleed, he then proceeded to make a mess in the family room at the computer room. His mom shouted at him, then he died. Then he woke up. He was reborn. Only he had a UI screen suddenly at the edge of his vision. What the hell. He was meant to have some cool powers, like lazers that shot out of his nipples, maybe some mad dancing skills. He would finally be able to speak to girls without laughing in their faces. Sigh. So this is his story, of how he couldn't decide which career prospect appealed to him more. So he decides to give both being a hero and a villain a go. What could go wrong? *** Edit: 2017.06.18 - 03:08 am EST - JJ seems to have buggered off somewhere without telling me where he went. So I am going to have to piece together this story back from the start with the fragments that he gave me. I will leave the original chapters up, but I will be renaming them so they are obvious if new readers don't want to read them. I am currently trying to write chapter one anew. It will feature new reasons of why JJ starts with the villainous lifestyle first, and the reasons of why he is granted the power he was given. If JJ does come back, I will inform you thusly. Then it will be decision of writing from where he left off or telling him to go choke on his own c**k. If I do decide to take the story up, then it will be a decision of to split the stories in two, and if to keep my version alive and concurrent. Thanks.

UNSPOKEN
Unspoken is a book filled with poems and songs I've made throughout my life. Each chapter will be either a song or poem. They are similar to what many of you have experienced in life... featuring love, heartbreak, loneliness, etc. These are all the emotions I was never able to let out so I chose to write them out on paper.
