《I Will Slay Everything》Chapter 13

"It's already been a month." A voice echoed from the sky. Wei Xiaodan was familiar with the voice, and looked up to the sky seemingly irritated.
Mevis descended from the sky and landed on the ground, with a smile he greeted him, full of warm welcomes, "How have you been. Didn't expect you wouldn't return to me and beg on your knees just for you to become my disciple."
"Great. Would be much better if you didn't show up though."
Mevis chuckled under the crimson blood sky, "You're still as arrogant as before…. Bad weeds will never become good ones, it seems like they're right." Mevis paused and said, "So, have you finally found a way to return…?"
Wei Xiaodan ignored him and scanned his surroundings before fixing his gaze to the black tree under the mountain distance away from him and said, "No. But my guess is, I should be able to once I've found out the truth about the black tree that I'm sure you've already known of."
Mevis sneered and said, "Close enough, but you're wrong. The black tree under the mountain is what connects the portal over all worlds. For short, it's like Yin Yang. Once a leaf withers away and falls from the tree, it would mean someone had just died. Whether you're a god or an immortal, every creature, even me, has a leaf on the black tree."
"But why is it in hell instead of heaven?" Wei Xiaodan still has doubts in his heart after hearing what Mevis said. If the tree really has such an important background, wouldn't heaven protect it at all cost because it might destroy the balance of the world?
"Well, even I don't even know the reason. How could I know? That tree's been there before I was even born in this world." Mevis said as he shrugged his shoulders.

"How old are you in anyway?" Wei Xiaodan was kinda curious himself. If Mevis really is a devil, then perhaps he had lived for a hundred years or longer by now.
"Why? Do you wanna know? I'll tell you if you'll willingly become my disciple." Mevis said with a smile.
"Forget it." Since he couldn't get the answer, Wei Xiaodan decided to give up knowing. Well, what changes will it do knowing though? Since it wouldn't change anything, he wouldn't dare risk his own life just for curiosity.
Wei Xiaodan stood up from the ground, and without saying anything to Mevis, he took a step forward. As soon as he did so, his body temperature suddenly rose, and the golden visible flames brimming in his body started to fade away.
"What the hell are you doing?? Wasn't staying for a month ain't enough to satisfy you? What a masochist." Mevis said with a frown.
"If all you're gonna do is yarp here and yarp there, why don't you tape your mouth or distance yourself away from me." Wei Xiaodan still has his goal of returning to earth no matter what. He couldn't afford to waste even a second of even conversing with Mevis so once he had taken another 30 steps, his body lit in flames but all he did was sit down on the ground, and started meditating.
"Ehhei, this masochist stubborn bastard dares to. If only you're not the one I wanted to turn as a disciple, I would have murdered you right here right now." Mevis was kinda dissatisfied by the way Wei Xiaodan spoke. He couldn't even remember being harsh to him, but why was his attitude towards him a hostile one?
"Anyway, for short I've gotta cope with the heat, so please keep your mouth shut so I can focus." Wei Xiaodan closed his eyes, and as soon as he did, the golden flames brimming around him began circulating all over him as if it's his own body.

Mevis was suddenly shocked from what he had seen to the point he couldn't help but subconsciously cried out, "Demonic hell flames!!"
As far as he could remember, demonic hell flames are only inherited through royal demons. And from the color of the flame swirling around Wei Xiaodan, he could already guess that it's a high leveled one.
"Normally, the only ones who are supposed to have been taught these techniques were, us, the seven kings of hells. It was inherited through history, only ones who've seated upon one of the seven kings of hells would be the only ones taught of such a technique, but to see he learned it through meditating alone….," Mevis cackled and continued, "Like I thought, I wasn't mistaken in picking him."
Fortunately, Wei Xiaodan didn't hear him muttering that. If he did, he would have his forehead covered in sweat by now. Mevis' obsession towards him is growing at a frightening pace. Good thing Wei Xiaodan was deep in thought, and currently cultivating the unknown source of power he could feel within his body. Or else, he might have heard what Mevis said and shuddered in cold.
"Everytime I circulate the flame swirling around my body, the temperature lessens to a pace which I can withstand. Does it mean that the more I embrace the heat, the more likely I will be able to enhance my endurance towards the heat?" Wei Xiaodan thought to himself as he circulated the weird source of flame, burning ablaze inside his own body. He first discovered this flame while he was dreaming about his family's death over and over. Everytime one of his family members dies from the holy light that befalls from the sky, their body would disintegrate into nothing and Wei Xiaodan would see a burning flame ascending the sky, which he pictured over and over. And as a result, he pictured it over and over inside his head until the flame's image suddenly materialized inside his body before he knew it.
In the beginning, he was panicking while meditating in thought that his body would surely disintegrate into ashes just like his family since he could feel how powerful the flame was, but was shock to discover that not only the flame didn't burned him to ashes, instead made him feel warm and comfortable even enhancing his tolerance over temperatures.

Getting Hard (Journey of a Tank)
Herald Stone always built tank characters in every MMORPG he played. To be immortal—that was his first Goal, a simple childhood dream. However, the turbulent realities of life put an end to his gaming days. Years passed, and Herald Stone, now having attained success and stability, was presented with the opportunity to redeem himself...to fulfill his first Goal. Trivial? Childish? Others might think so. But Herald Stone always fulfilled his Goals—every single one. No matter what. Immortality beckoned in Mother Core Online, and this time Herald Stone would answer. Choosing a long-forgotten race, hidden away in an unknown region, the journey of an immortal tank begins. This is the tale of Herald Stone...getting hard. Schedule: Mon-Wed-Fri ~1.8k-2.3k words per chapter. Also published on Scribblehub. My other ongoing story: REND | Royal Road Expect a focus on building a true tank in MMORPGs. Heavy game elements and numbers are present. But actual math will take a backseat to strategies involving skill builds and synergies that steadily become more complex while remaining understandable. The main character is atypical in LitRPGs or web novels as a whole. He might take some getting used to. Character arcs will develop over a long period. What you see now will be different as the main character changes. The start of Getting Hard is slow-paced (more so than others of the genre) and includes world-building and character development before focusing on the LitRPG.
