《Battling Records of the Chosen One》C193. Give It a Shot

The beautiful maid dare not overthink. Soon, they arrived at the second floor of the Commune.
They walked down a long aisle for a while and came into a quaint hall.
Here, a learned and refined man wearing dark green silk clothing and well-trimmed mustache sat behind a desk with his legs crossed.
With a tobacco pipe in the left hand and an inscribing pen in the right hand, he was inscribing spiritual tattoos on a piece of indigo blue animal skin while smoking, leisurely and carefree.
“Childe, he's Chu Feng, executive of the Commune of Spiritual Tattooists,” the maid said softly.
Lin Xun nodded. In his eyes, Chu Feng was absolutely a gentleman clearly knowing how to enjoy life.
His clothing was made of exquisite cloth with obscure spiritual tattoos, although it seemed common. Also, each of the accessories on him was of great quality, pleasing to both the eye and the mind. Even that tobacco pipe was made of polished ribs of “Groundramon”, glittering with a light cyan halo.
What impressed Lin Xun most was Chu Feng’s two small tufts of mustache, which were trimmed in an exquisite curling shape; together with his charming face, it made him look elegant and unconventional.
But soon Lin Xun was attracted by the spiritual tattoo Chu Feng was inscribing. That piece of indigo blue animal skin should be tanned with the swings of Blue Lightning Bird, which was a superb-quality spiritual material to refine high-grade inner armor of Human-rank.
The inscribing pen Chu Feng was using was like a pointed cone, slender and gleaming, on which was inscribed with teardrop-like dark red patterns.
Under Chu Feng’s hand, slender and dense spiritual tattoos emerged, with his smooth actions.
At just a glance, Lin Xun knew that Chu Feng was a spiritual tattooist, and obviously he had many years of experience and great attainments in this field.
As Lin Xun looked Chu Feng up and down, the maid explained what Lin Xun came for.
“Friend, sit down please. Let me finish this ‘Wind Shadow Developing Lightning Spirit Formation’ first. Then I will authenticate you as a spiritual tattooist.
Without raising his head, Chu Feng went on inscribing. But his voice was warm and gentle like a spring breeze, making Lin feel that he was not given the cold shoulder.
“Oh”, he said and sat on one side.
Seeing this situation, the maid left quietly.
This quaint hall suddenly became quiet, and only the rustling the inscribing pen made could be heard.
As time lapsed, Lin became a little impatient and couldn’t help looking up at Chu Feng. Lin Xun noticed Chu Feng frowned, staring at that piece of indigo blue animal skin. It seemed that he met a big trouble.
At the moment he was as still as a sculpture. He even didn’t notice that fire in his pipe had already died out.

As a spiritual tattooist, Lin Xun could clearly tell that Chu Feng fell into a deep thinking. And if the problem couldn’t be solved, he might be sitting there still for a few days.
He had ever been in such a situation more than once when he was young, so had Master Lu.
Lin Xun stood up and came to the desk, with his gaze falling on that piece of indigo blue animal skin.
He didn’t want to keep waiting like this. It was a total waste of time.
Only with one glance, Lin Xun noticed that Chu Feng was making a pair of inner armor, but which was different from a usual one. There were three totally different spiritual tattoo formations, including Condensing Mountains, King Kong and Wind Shadow Developing Lightning, on this armor.
The former two belonged to defensive spiritual tattoo formation, separately having the attribute of earth and metal. Both were low-grade spiritual tattoo formations.
Only the third one was quite particular, with two attributes of both wind and lightning and the most complicated pattern. It belonged to the middle-grade spiritual tattoo formation.
Now the problem Chu Feng encountered was about the third spiritual tattoo formation. It was not due to refining method but lack of a medium that could unify the three formations.
In this case, even refined successfully, this pair of inner armor would be much less powerful.
Looking at it carefully for a long time, Lin Xun suddenly said, “If you authenticate me as a spiritual tattooist now, maybe I could help you resolve this problem.”
Chu Feng didn’t hear a word of him at all. Or you could say he was totally immersed in his thinking and forgot all the other things.
On seeing this, Lin Xun sighed in his heart and bent to snatch the inscribing pen from Chu Feng.
“Damn it! What are you doing?”
Chu Feng was awakened from his thinking and shouted at Lin Xun.
“I am trying to help you.”
Lin Xun said casually, and then sat on the floor, trying to inscribe on that indigo blue animal skin.
“Where are you from? Who let you in? Get out of here!”
With anxiety, Chu Feng reproached him on and on. But however angry he was, he maintained a polite demeanor throughout and didn’t lay a finger on Lin Xun.
“Stop bothering me, or this pair of inner armor will be destroyed.”
Lin Xun already began to inscribe while speaking.
“You, you, you...”
Chu Feng got so pissed off that he wanted to beat the crap out of Lin Xun. But at last, he held it back.
It was not because he didn’t dare to do it, but that this pair of inner armor was extremely valuable. And it took him a few years to collect several rare spiritual ingredients in it.
Once he hit Lin Xun, the inner armor he was refining might be destroyed completely.

This was the last thing Chu Feng wanted to see.
But how could he watch Lin Xun wanton mischief and do nothing?
Chu Feng was caught into a dilemma, with his charming face twisted because of anger. Since he became the director of the Commune of Spiritual Tattooists in the Mist City, this was the first time that he had met such a bold teenager.
“Tell me, the earth corresponds to Kun (one of the Eight Diagrams, so did the following Dui, Xun, Zhen and Kan), gold corresponds to Dui, wind vs Xun, and lightning vs Zhen. If I want them connected with each other, what is the medium?”
Lin Xun asked suddenly. While saying that, he was still inscribing.
“Kan!” Chu Feng paused and answered subconsciously. Soon he got angry, for the little guy dared to guide him. Who did he think he was?
“Yes. Kun benefits from Kan, Dui is derived from Kan, Xun and Kan were complementary, and Zhen and Kan resonate. Now that you know this, why don’t you inscribe a ‘Kan Benefiting Four-Image Spiritual Formation’?”
On hearing that, Chu Feng said without thinking, “It is impossible! The skin of Blue Lightning Bird, serving as the carrier of this pair of inner armor, has the two attributes of Kan and Zhen. Therefore, it’s impossible to accommodate four spiritual tattoo formations in one pair of inner armor.”
After that, he flared up again, “What’s wrong with me? Why is a boy leading me by the nose?”
But next moment, he was attracted by Lin Xun’s words.
“Of course, it is possible. Although this spiritual tattoo formation is powerful, you can throw away some structures in the formation and leave the position of four images for the circulation of Kan water. With this as a medium, the other three spiritual tattoo formations could be compatible.”
Saying that, Lin Xun had inscribed a complete spiritual tattoo formation.
At this time, Chu Feng felt like getting struck by a flash of lightning. After quite a while, he clapped his hands and said, “No wonder! I see now.”
As he spoke, he completely came to his sense, with a weird on his face, looking at Lin Xun. “Just now, was this boy directing me?”
“How could it be possible?”
“How old is he? How could he know this?”
“Alright. This pair of inner armor has been finished. But, if you want to maximize its power, you’d better soak it in Real Heavy Kan Water for a while.”
Lin Xun put down the inscribing pen and stood up. He said that while pointing to that indigo animal skin with a wisp of soft spiritual light.
Strictly speaking, it was not animal skin anymore, but a pair of inner armor full of spiritual Qi and illusory color now!
Chu Feng strode forward, picked it up and stared at it for a while, with his heart overwhelmed by a shock.
Had this “Xun-Zhen Spiritual Armor” on the middle grade of Human rank been refined so easily?
It was incredible!
Chu Feng felt like that he was dreaming. After quite a while he couldn’t help asking Lin Xun, “My friend, who on earth are you?”
There was kind of respect in his tone this time.
Lin Xun smiled and said, “I already told you when I came. I’m here for getting the qualification of spiritual tattooist.”
Chu Feng thought for a while and then patted his own head, “I remember, but...”
Looking at Lin Xun’s young and handsome face, Chu really couldn’t connect him to a spiritual tattooist.
“Now, the inner armor has been finished. Is it time to certify me as a spiritual tattooist?”
Lin Xun was speechless when he saw the surprised look on Chu’s face. He got tired of being treated as a monster when he stayed with Old Mo.
“Yes, yes, you are right.”
Chu Feng nodded, took a few deep breathes and forced himself to suppress his shock and doubt, smiling, “But, you have certified yourself just now, haven’t you?”
Lin Xun was astonished, “When?”
Chu Feng pointed to that Xun-Zhen Spiritual Armor.
Lin Feng suddenly understood what he meant and then smiled too.
“Here are four badges that represent the different levels of spiritual tattooists.”
Chu Feng took out a jade box, in which there were four jade badges with different colors. Each one was as big as a copper coin, and their models were simple and classical.
“They represent four certificates of the primary, middle, senior and top spiritual tattooists. I wonder which level you are in now.”
There was a touch of strong curiosity in Chu Feng’s eyes.
“The first level.”
Lin Xun thought about it and directly chose the certificate for primary spiritual tattooists. This was a bronze jade badge with the logo of the Commune of Spiritual Tattooists on the front side and a blank on the back.
“The primary level?”
Chu Feng was surprised and said, “But in my opinion, you are enough to be worthy of the middle-level badge with your way of refining that inner armor.”
Lin Xun explained patiently, “I just benefited from you and inscribed a simple spiritual tattoo formation. You are the one who have finished this inner armor.”
It suddenly dawned on Chu Feng and he smiled, “It’s rare to meet such a young spiritual tattooist like you. If known by others, it would cause a sensation. What you did is a wise choice to protect yourself, I understand.”

Azarinth Healer
A new world with nearly unlimited possibilities. A status, classes, magic and monsters. Sounds good? Well, for Ilea it didn't come quite as expected as for some other protagonists, nor was there a king or god to welcome her. The grand quest? Well, she might figure that out someday but for now, a new world with new food is prize enough. Her fists at the ready, she's prepared to punch and get punched, however long it takes and however many limbs she might have to regrow. A story I've started writing now quite a while ago. Transported to another world, somewhat standard fantasy setting with my beginner attempts to make it dark but funny. There are Litrpg elements here but I do hope it's not too heavy and annoying. The fights should be interesting and aren't just numbers vs numbers. Contrary to the title the protagonist will be quite an offensive fighter. Ilea Spears is your average sarcastic kick-boxing fast food worker and soon to be student. She will be transported to another world rather conventionally and will be confronted with survival in the wild. Give it a shot and let me know what you think. My experience is incredibly lacking. If you find yourself hating it early on, do convey your anger in a detailed comment or review :) I want to get better but without any feedback it's simply quite difficult. Quick heads up: Around chapter 120 there are a bunch of longer PoV changes that I discontinued again shortly after. The Arc around chapters 150-200 is darker than the rest and the themes shift quite a bit. Just know that it goes back to what you've come to know after that section. Thank you for reading. Quick update June 2019: Many complaints regarding the formatting, specifically spacing in conversations and of course the usage of the present tense in the first 36 chapters have been addressed. I'm of course learning by the day but compared to how it was before it should be an improvement at least. Chapters usually around 3k words Cover art by Kevin Catalan

The Foretold: Sun Child (Complete)
As a sixteen year old commoner, your future is bleak. Worse, your appearance sets you apart from others. Your only achievement so far, is befriending the second son of the Lord of the Keep. He has been your only friend for eleven years, initially partner in mischief and later your hunting companion and confidant. Now your friendship is being torn asunder, he has turned eighteen and is being sent away to become a Judge Knight Aspirant. What is to become of you? Before your friend leaves, there is murder and conspiracy! Magic left the land hundreds of years ago, all you have is your bow and hunting skills, nevertheless you must fight to survive and save another to have any hope of a future! Note: The graphic isn't mine; it is a re-imagining of a few separate images, any objections by original artists let me know. N.B. If you are looking for Sexual Content every chapter, or every second, third or fourth chapter this isn't the story for you - the Sexual Content is required for a plot device, not a way of life and the later chapters reflect that - please stop dropping Low Ratings when you feel I haven't met your idea of "fan service". This is finished as much as a multi book vision can be finished. At 750,000 words give or take and very little readership I can only blame myself. I have learnt a lot, possibly forgotten a lot as well! I will probably return to the Chapters at some point - a touch up here and a touch up there. The second book though will probably remain in my head for a very long time, so yes "cliffs" although I hope the characters and their motivations are developed enough that you can have a good guess at the content of Book Two and tell me so I can confirm or deny! This isn't a LITRPG where classes are developed, great foes are defeated by a hero of immense power. This is a story based within (I hope) a very real and consistent culture, that leaves breadcrumbs for the reader to work out what the heck is happening and why. This is a slow burn story as the MC is stumbling around discovering her new place and role. Author's Note (Apr 2021): I dropped the Fantasy Genre for the Mystery Genre, because while the setting mentions magic, is it about past glories and trying to return to them. Whereas the MC from Chapter One doesn't understand her predicament and the range of mysteries she must solve to survive. If I have this wrong PM me and I will change this back.
