《Battling Records of the Chosen One》C140. Mixed Reception

When the twilight fell, the quarterly assessment came to an end.
A total of 600 trainees participated in the test, but in the end only 237 successfully killed the strong ones from the Fire Barbarian Branch.
The other 363 trainees were all eliminated!
This was definitely a shocking result. It was, anyway, undisputed that the trainees who held on to the quarterly assessment were almost all elites, who amounted to ones of the best as regards not only their natural endowments and root bones but also their cultivation and combat experience.
But even so, still more than half of the trainees were eliminated altogether. It was simple to see how cruel and perverted the result was.
The elimination rate of Camp 39 was much smaller, with only a total of 13 trainees eliminated and the other 17 passing the test. In contrast, more than half trainees from most of the other camps were eliminated. So the performance of the trainees from Camp 39 was already excellent.
“They are much better than trainees of previous sessions. At least it was already very hard to have as many as 150 trainees passing the quarterly assessment then,” Fatty Middle-aged sighed with emotion.
Young Ke nodded. The performance of trainees in this session was indeed very great. But the moment she thought of Lin’s success, she couldn’t help but fall into a trance.
It wasn’t long before Young Ke was summoned to leave.
…
In the temporary central camp.
As the quarterly assessment ended, drillmasters of the entire 20 camps and some of the strong practitioners in the camps had already gathered here.
They had kept themselves well informed of the result of each camp. It was surly an exhilarating thing that 237 trainees passed the quarterly assessment.
The atmosphere was really lively at this time, but there were mostly quarrels and commotion, all over the first place of this quarterly assessment.
“Three seconds? Only by Lin that lad’s fighting capacity? How could this be done? It must be cheating!”
“Right. That is a strong Fire Barbarian whose power can amount to a practitioner in Gang Spirit Realm. Let alone this lad, who is only at the eighth level of Martial Realm, even a powerful practitioner in Gang Spirit Realm can hardly win within three seconds. There must be a problem!”
“Chief Shu, it’s not that we’re jealous of him and particularly hostile to him, but that the result is too good to be true. If it is not cheating, how can this lad, who has been obscure in the past, kill a Fire Barbarian Soldier within three seconds?”
Questioning voices and denunciations filled the camp.
The most agitated one among them was the drillmaster of Camp 7. In his opinion, if not for Lin’s cheating, his trainee, Bai Lingshi, would surly win the first place in the quarterly assessment!
Young Ke frowned and remained silent. Only she looked at Young Man with a kind of unspeakable strangeness.
In the meanwhile, Young Man, with slender figure, was standing right next to Shu Sanqi all the time in a graceful way. She folded her arms over her plump bosom, and smilingly looked at everyone around her, not seeming to have noticed the continuously fermentative smell of gunpowder on the spot.

She enjoyed the anger and frustration those guys showed. The more wrathful and unreconciled they were, the happier Young Man felt.
It was just yesterday that they clamoured to witness her failure. It was high time that she saw they made an exhibition of themselves!
“Chief Shu, please say something,” someone said in a low voice, which suppressed all others sounds there, and then all people present turned their eyes to Shu Sanqi.
Shu Sanqi had kept silent and paid no attention to the ongoing farce around him since the final result came out, as if thinking about something else.
Only now was Shu Sanqi dragged out of his thoughts. And coldness soon re-emerged in his sharp eyes which, like a cold knife, then swept all people around him.
The camp suddenly became deadly quiet.
Shu Sanqi stood up, without making any useless remark, his finger slightly slid in the air, and then a virtual optical screen emerged, on which the scene that Lin Xun killed the Fire Barbarian - Bafu abruptly reappeared. The process was presented clearly on the optical screen and everyone saw it.
The handsome lad who stood alone, the dreamy and magnificent silver arrow rain, and the numerous bloody holes on Barf’s dead body…All these interwove together, making up a beautiful, bloody and thrilling picture.
Immediately, many of those present held their breath, with their pupils dilated, and were shocked. Even those who had already seen this scene, such as Young Ke, Young Man and Fatty Middle-aged, still couldn’t keep calm when seeing the scene again.
This was Meteors Crossbow, an unprecedented and brand-new spiritual crossbow! It was a horrible killing weapon whose power was beyond imagination!
“You’ve all seen it. This scene can’t be fake,” Shu Sanqi said coldly.
Shu’s words made everyone suddenly wake up as if they had been in a dream. But someone already couldn’t help but cry, “Chief Shu, it is the fact, but that crossbow is not an imperial-made spiritual weapon at all. You cannot find a single weapon of this in the whole Bloodthirsty Camp. How does Lin Xun get it?”
“Right, equipped with such a powerful weapon, I am afraid that anyone can do what Lin has done. It’s already no different from cheating.”
Others echoed that one’s opinion in succession.
“Have you ever seen such a crossbow before?” Shu Sanqi seemed to have already expected this and asked with full composure.
All were in a daze and shook their heads. Indeed, they had never seen such a crossbow which was as magnificent as fleeting stars.
“This is Lin Xun’s self-made crossbow, which was finally completed by Old Mo. And there is no any ban in the camp on self-made weapons in the quarterly assessment,” Shu Sanqi said calmly.
Self-made crossbow?
When hearing the words, a lot of people present were truly shocked. What did it mean? It meant that Lin Xun could also be an incredible spiritual tattooist!
Whereas, on hearing that this crossbow was finally refined by Old Mo, many people had already realised that this unprecedented crossbow also had an inseparable relationship with Old Mo.

“Chief Shu, Old Mo is a spiritual tattoo master. This lad created such a thing with the help of Old Mo. He’s obviously cheating,” some people yelled, unable to accept the outcome.
“If any trainee in your camp can design such a powerful crossbow, let alone Old Mo, even if I am needed to do something, I will surely not decline!”
Shu Sanqi frowned. He simply implied, “You can also do it if you think you can!”
At this point, all people present could do nothing but shut up their mouths. No matter how reluctant they were, they knew that there was already no way to change the result that Lin Xun ranked first in the quarterly assessment.
Seeing this, Young Man also laughed. She was already prepared to settle accounts. She cleared her throat and said, “Hey, everybody, do you still remember the bet of yesterday?”
For a moment, many people present looked quite embarrassed. Young Man did win this ridiculous bet! This was simply…not reasonable!
…
The first place in this quarterly assessment: Lin Xun, with the battle time of 3 seconds!
Second place: Bai Lingshi, 36 seconds.
Third place: Zhao Yin, 41 seconds.
Fourth place: Lee Duxing, 44 seconds.
Fifth place: Zhangsun Heng, 45 seconds.
…
When the grades and rankings of this quarterly assessment came out, it instantly set off an uproar in the whole Bloodthirsty Camp. Heated quarrels blasted off in each camp.
“Lin Xun? Which bastard is this Lin Xun? How can he kill the opponent in three seconds? This must be cheating!”
“Yes! Definitely cheating. Look at his scores; he should take a full thirty-three seconds less than Bai Lingshi did. Is he even stronger than Bai Lingshi?”
“Shit, I just wanna go to Camp 39 to see who this Lin Xun is. How can he win the first place?! This matter won’t be finished if he doesn’t give a satisfactory answer!”
Remarks full of question and curses like this were made in almost every camp. Maybe even Young Man could not have imagined that Lin Xun, who had won the first place, didn’t gain any applause or praise; instead, he became a target of criticism.
Even in Camp 39, when hearing the result, everybody almost went crazy all of a sudden. Did Lin Xun, this guy really won the first place?
This was just ridiculous!
It was even more ridiculous than the bet of yesterday!
Some people already couldn’t help but question the result loudly.
Lin Xun was on the spot. Seeing those strange eyes cast on him and listening to the various arguments filled with doubt and anger, Lin Xun couldn’t help but treat them with a sneer.
These guys, all seeming to be full of indignation, were in fact just jealous and unhappy to see Lin’s success.
What was more, even Drillmaster Young Ke hadn’t said anything, which was undoubtedly a kind of affirmation of Lin’s grade. But they just kept accusing Lin of cheating. Were they really so stupid?
But Lin Xun didn’t bother to pay attention to this. Anyway, he knew that the sensation he caused this time was really too big since even those top ones such as Bai Lingshi and Zhao Yin ranked behind him. It was understandable that they were unhappy about the result.
But Lin Xun didn’t regret doing this. Even without Young Man’s bet, he would also do it.
Unhappy?
Well, you could have also made a Meteors Crossbow, right?
This was simply what Lin Xun thought. Although it was a bit arrogant, he was indeed not happy. He had finally won the first place, but now was subjected to the censure of everybody. No one could stop feeling depressed in the face of this.
With a bang, Lin got a punch on his shoulder and then he saw Ning Meng shouted excitedly, “Damn it. You are just marvelous!”
Lin said with a grin, “Aren’t you worried that my cheating bring shame on you?”
Ning Meng disdained, “Cheating? Those guys are just jealous of you. If capable enough, why didn’t they also go cheating? Even the drillmasters in the camp didn’t say anything, but they keep clamouring. How annoying they are!”
Lin laughed. He suddenly discovered that though Ning Meng this guy seemed straightforward, but it was often a simple person that could see through the truth.
“As the saying goes, you should look upon others in a different light from before. I didn’t believe it before. But now you make me finally believe it,” at this time, Shi Yu walked over with a smile, and the way in which he looked at Lin Xun was slightly different.
“Is this irony, or overpraise?” Lin asked.
Ning Meng pre-emptively sneered, “In my opinion, that is neither irony nor overpraise, but only flattery from this gorgeous young fop.”
Shi Yu’s look suddenly stiffened, and the eyes he cast on Ning Meng grew unkind.
Lin Xun decisively shut up, unnoticeably standing some distance apart. He knew that the two guys were just about to quarrel again.
Sure enough, the two begun arguing in next minute.
…
The quarterly assessment had come to an end in lots of arguments and doubts. In any case, Lin Xun’s name had spread throughout the Bloodthirsty Camp almost overnight and became known to all drillmasters and trainees.
At the same time, all kinds of questions and criticisms of Lin Xun came along. The controversy continued, giving Lin Xun a mixed reception.
This might be the price for being famous.
