Chapter 9

~ Snippets of GeaOnline~

SW/SW/SW

Kail opened his eyes to look at the usual scenery before him: his room ceiling. He sat up, removing his visor.

Looking around, his room seemed emptier than before. Maybe it had something to do with Agriella’s presence. They just met once, but she brightened his day and mended his bleeding heart. Having her around was a joy.

He recalled the events in GeaOnline and a smile graced his lips.

...why did you have to throw it at me?!

...so hungry I could eat a house—no, on second thought—a castle.

Yes, she was a Summon Beast, but he found her beautiful and real. It was but a brief moment, but he already missed her. He missed everything about her—her smile, her laugh, her annoyed voice, and her kindness.

Kail sighed and reached out to charge his visor. Now that she wasn’t here, things started to get depressing. Turning off the lights, he went to sleep.

He didn’t dream...

It was a fine morning. Nia woke up at five thirty. She made her bed and opened the window, taking in healthy morning air. After a quick stretching, Nia took a warm bath and went to the first floor in her school uniform.

To her surprise, there was no one in the first floor. Normally her brother was the first to wake up, cleaning the house until six before preparing himself for school. Looking at the clock, it was six fifteen.

Until five more minutes before her mother and father coming down for breakfast.

Placing her bag on the sofa, Nia walked up the stairs and went to Kail’s room. Leaning against the door and listening, she frowned. It was unusually quiet.

She knocked, “Brother, are you awake?”

There was no response.

She knocked again, “Brother, it’s six. If you don’t get up, mother will be angry.”

Still there was no response. It was weird, seeing that the mere mention of her mother would send Kail to a momentary speed boost.

“Brother, I’m coming in,” Nia slowly opened the door and was shocked to see that everything was dark. The window was shut, the curtains blocking the light from entering the room. In the dim-lit room, she noticed a weird helmet on her brother’s bed.

Kail was, of course, sleeping.

Pouting and arms akimbo, Nia strode to the window and opened it wide. The ray of light illuminated the dark room, making Kail flinch in his sleep.

It was so bright it hurt. Kail instinctively covered his head with his blanket, attempting to cross the bridge to the dream world again.

“Brother, wake up already!” that familiar voice broke the bridge he was crossing and he instantly opened his eyes.

Pushing the blanket aside, he saw Nia standing in front of him. He rubbed his eyes wearily, “What are you doing here...?”

“Why are you asking the obvious? Of course I’m here to wake you up! Unless you want to stand in the hallway, then you’re free to go to sleep again.”

Sitting groggily, he rasped, “...what time is it?”

“Six twenty.”

Crap! It was the time his mother started preparing breakfast! He scrambled down and ran to the bathroom on the second floor.

He took a quick shower, and emerged ten minutes later fresh and clean. By the time he got downstairs, his father had left and Nia was sipping his tea, waiting for him.

“And now you woke up late,” was his mother’s greeting in the morning. Seriously, why wouldn’t she say something nice for once?

“Doing some homework,” he didn’t bother explaining and just bluffed like usual. He munched on his toast and took a bite of his sausages.

Fifteen minutes later they walked outside. There was still approximately one hour before the school started and, as usual, they took their time and went to nearby park to talk.

Around seven thirty they left the park. This time, they walked in silence, savoring the tranquility between them. Kail took out his cell phone and stared at the clock. Six more hours until he was free from school. He couldn’t wait to see her, to see Agriella.

He missed her voice, her kindness, and especially her smile.

“Waiting for Alisa’s message?” Nia asked out of the blue.

Kail smiled slightly, bluffing, “Yeah. She always sends me a message around this hour.”

Nia didn’t answer, but nodded.

Finally they arrived at the school.

“Good morning, Kail,” he couldn’t get bored listening to the soft voice. In an instant, his heart warmed up and positive energy spread all over his body.

Turning around, he saw Alisa, who had her hair tied up in a low twintail. Letting her hair down, having it in a ponytail, or even a twintail, the style would always suit her.

Her green eyes soothed his loneliness and he smiled, “Hey.”

Nia bowed her body a little, “Good morning, Alisa.”

The friendly gestures earned a sweet smile from the green-eyed girl. The expression soon disappeared when she noticed his colorful face. “Kail, what happened? You got a black eye!”

Kail grimaced at the memory and instinctively covered his right eye, “Nah, it’s nothing.”

“If it’s nothing, then why you have your arms covered in band-aids?”

Noting that it was the time to act, Nia approached Alisa and whispered something. Alisa then pursed her lip while saying, “You idiot! Why didn’t you call the police when you were mugged?”

Kail blinked in confusion, but understood that Nia had just saved him by lying. Though she didn’t know that he had been bullied, she would always there ready for an excuse.

He went along, “I-I didn’t remember their faces clearly! Besides, they didn’t steal much from me!”

“Where did it happen?”

“Somewhere in a park near the mall. I was... taking a break from shopping and all of a sudden they attacked me.”

“But you were going with Wawan, weren’t you?”

If the cooling fan inside a laptop could spin at a certain speed per minutes, Kail’s brain spun way faster than it was. He was best when it came to lying, but doing so required unbelievable concentration to make up for one, and superb determination to look at someone’s eyes.

“Wawan already went home. At that time, I was buying the visor for GeaOnline,” it was a white lie. He lied to her, but not completely. He did go out to the mall and buy it.

“So that’s what the strange helmet was,” Nia murmured, finally enlightened.

“A-Anyway, I’m going to the class first! See ya!” and he hurriedly left before he could spill anymore nonsense.

Once he was inside the class, he put away his bag and sat down. Looking around, he noticed that something was missing. It was an unusually quiet day. Then he slapped his face. Of course it was, since a certain lamia girl wasn’t there.

Since he played the game, it was normal for him to be curious about GeaOnline. Kail took out his old cell phone. It wasn’t a smartphone, but still could be used for surfing the web. He entered the keywords and the result popped out.

The Wi-Fi was fast. The tuition fee didn’t go to some fat rat’s pocket, then.

He clicked the official page, but only found general information such as Races, Tel Nevos, Story, and recent updates. There weren’t any detailed information about Summon Beasts.

Sad...

He had no choices but to browse other websites. He found a trustworthy website that housed much information about GeaOnline. He started with Summon Beasts.

Summon Beasts in GeaOnline were divided by their primary roles: Attacker, Defender, and Support. He scrolled down to find Agriella’s name on Support-type Beast. Her rank wasn’t very high since she was a low-level Uncommon Beast.

He read the comments about Agriella and shook his head. They said that she was useful on house chores only and that was why she was an unpopular Beast despite her being an Uncommon Beast. What was more, she had low HP for an attacker and mediocre MP for a supporter.

She had Casting skill, but unable to learn any spell before reaching level 10. She started out wearing almost nothing but a claw and veteran Summoners called her a glass cannon Support Beast. Kail didn’t know what a ‘glass cannon’ meant, but it sounded awful. The meaning must be awful, too.

Tired of Summon Beasts, Kail browsed through the Boss section. There was a long table filled with each of the bosses in GeaOnline.

This bosses list was sorted based on levels. However, we decided to sort the Dread Trinity (Azariel, Etherios, and Hathor) based on their difficulty.

Kail frowned. The... what?

So, these three bosses must be the... uh, Dread Trinity, as the web said.

These three bosses were ranked by their difficulty, huh? It meant that this level 350 boss was harder than the level 390 boss? That was kind of weird. What was more, their status gap was like heaven and earth.

Curious about the level 390 boss, he clicked the link on the right side and gasped.

Azariel the Chaotic Madness

One of the main villains of GeaOnline, Azariel was created to fulfill the descriptions of what a final boss looked like. His attributes were once so high that even 10 of 300-leveled players couldn’t bring his HP below 50 percent.

In the latest update, Azariel is much more tolerable and easier to beat. Although most of his deadliest movesets were deleted and replaced, he is still as dangerous as he once was.

In GeaOnline story, Azariel is a ruthless king who governs without mercy. Aided by Etherios and Hathor, they gleefully spread terror throughout the land.

Hmm, Invisipen, huh? Sadly Kail wasn’t into arts and obviously clueless to the name. But he knew which art was good and which was not. This one was epic.

He scrolled down to see the comments.

Kulaima78

Thank god the developer is back to their senses

Azariel was too damn hard to kill

Now if only they could make Soul Slicer easier to get... T.T

Mi-Mi-Mirakuru

Kulaima78

@Mi-Mi-Mirakuru I have killed him more than fifty times, but he doesn’t drop the damned sword... ?

Panko

@everyone tough luck to you guys jajajaja

I happen to got one and it’s just rarity one Soul Slicer

theatp is 2400 so high! can you belive that

A legendary weapon!

Kail grinned widely. If only he could obtain such an awesome weapon, he’d be invincible! But wait. He was a summoner, so he couldn’t use it. Dang...

Were there legendary staves for magic users? They should exist. There were a lot of bosses and there were bound to be many kinds of legendary weapons, not just swords.

Kail clenched his first in determination. Next time he was online, he’d definitely going to find those weapons! Of course with Agriella’s help! If he could get a hand on one of them, he’d sure be able to protect the lamia girl he loved…
