《Cursed Armor Reincarnation》Chapter 17: What About a Tournament?

Rune was bored. He still went out to kill random monsters, but it just wasn’t enough. The gods were growing bored as well. There was nothing to do. He lazed around on the sofa for a bit. It was saturday and he wanted to find something fun to do.

He looked up at Sophia who was giving him a lap pillow and asked her.

“Is there anything fun to do?”

“...At the capital there are theaters and gladiator fights.”

“That’s it!!!”

He sat up quickly and stood up from the sofa. He gave Sophia a quick kiss for giving him an idea and he left.

“Lisbeth. I got it. We will make festivals and tournaments in this school.”

“What?!”

“Yeah. It makes perfect sense. It’s like those culture festivals the japanese do and all the tournaments in those anime. We gotta do it.”

“What? Anime? You actually watched those?”

“Yes. Anyways, let’s prepare the plans.”

“Huh? I have to do it too?”

“Yes. That is final. Oh. Do try to contact the rest of the class while I am doing it. We have, what, a month until the meeting date? Let’s just meet here!!”

“A-. Actually, that is a good idea.”

Rune stood up with his coffee mug in hand and left the teacher’s lounge. He wanted to start the tournament in one month. He had the perfect person to contact as well.

He quickly grabbed some sheets of paper and started to scribble down ideas. He believed that he could create an actual arena as well as a training ground for the students. It would be a great idea if that could work.

His plan was to create a building like a coliseum and have seats surrounding it so that people could watch. He also figured that he should make an inside area for the coliseum for something like a snack bar for refreshments.

After an hour of planning, he had finished an outline of what he planned for and went to Ulf. Rune now had about 5,457 gold coins to spend on it.

“Hey, Ulf.”

“Oh, hey Rune!”

Rune walked into Ulf’s store after he teleported to the capital’s front gates. The store was a building made of wood and had a sign with a hammer and chisel on it.

“How much would it be to build this?”

Rune presented his outline to Ulf who looked over it carefully. Then he looked at a piece of paper and looked back at the outline.

“I suppose that it is possible to do this, but it may take a week or two if we had access to several carriages. We may need some help to build this.”

“I should be able to create the base using [Higher Transmutation]. My transmutation skill should actually be able to take care of the general shape, but it would be great if you got some guys together to help out the details.”

“Sure. It should be about… 2,050 gold coins if you are able to do what you said.”

“Sure. Here you go. Let’s try to finish as soon as possible.”

After he left, Rune decided that he could go to the adventurer’s guild to quickly change his class. He had been stuck with the Enchanter class for a while. He moved briskly along the streets and made it to the guild building.

He entered and walked towards the front desk. Manning the desk was a different person than last time, but it likely wouldn’t have mattered as no one would recognize him in his human form.

“I am here to change my class. Here is my guild card.”

He pulled out his card from his storage and showed it to the person. She took the card and inspected it carefully.

“And who was the important person who recognized you?”

“King Leo Regis Domini.”

“What?!”

“Anyway, can I do this quickly? I’m kinda on a tight schedule.”

“Ah. Yes. This way, please.”

She led him back to the room and opened the locked door. Then she turned towards him.

“We got a new job machine that can tell you which jobs you have completed the requirements for. This was made to help people get stronger faster.”

“Oh. Sure.”

He placed his hand on the orb and names spewed onto a tablet. Some names had a checkmark next to it and he guessed that those were the ones with the requirements he had completed.

The ones with the checks were:

-Blacksmith

-Cryomancer

-Lightning General

-Alchemist

-Dark Paladin

-Mage Killer

-Mage

-Warlock

-Butcher

-Rogue

The unchecked ones were:

-Soldier

-Dark Hero

-Death’s Hand

-Wizard

-Thief

-Samurai

-Ninja

-Hunter

-Earthen Guard

-Pyromancer

-Berserker

-Sorcerer

-Water Spiritualist

-Cleric

-Assassin

Then, as per what the person instructed, he took all the jobs that were already completed, then had to choose a job from the unchecked ones.

It seemed like she wanted him to choose Dark Hero because there were too few heroes for the humans in the past couple centuries. Obviously, he was going to choose something that would better himself.

“I think… I think I’ll choose this one.”

He tapped on Death’s Hand as his job and the woman next to him sunk to her knees. She was muttering something about how he should have chosen Dark Hero.

Death’s Hand immediately gave him a magic known as [Gravity Control] as well as a skill known as [Deconstruct] to revert objects into their raw materials.

He also gained [Cut], [Eldritch Blast], [Rage], [Electrocution], [Jab], [Modify Voice], [Unholy Smite], [Forge], [Freezing Aura], [Frostbite], [Gust], and a combination of the job Blacksmith and Dark Paladin to create a magic called [Create Cursed Weapon].

Less than a month had passed until they finished the arena. There was only one day until the meeting of the class. Lisbeth had already told everyone to show up and they all were surprised when they found out that Rune was the founder of a school.

Inside the coliseum, there were two rest areas. One was where the fighters could prepare and rest. The second was where people who were watching could get food and drinks as well as go to the restroom.

Over the past week, Rune decided to have everyone participate in the tournament. Earlier he went over the plan with the three other gym teachers. They were Ms. Baklan, the ranged weapons teacher, Mr.Traiphum, the simple weapons teacher, and Mrs. Nortiore, the martial weapons teacher.

When the other three teachers agreed, he prepared a speech during the gym class. Soon, when eighth period arrived, he gathered every student in the high school.

Usually, they would be split up into whichever weapon they wanted to use and start training, but this time that was intervened by Rune.

“Ok. Everyone. I need to tell all of you about a new upcoming event. This event will be called the ALF tournament. It will be held once every two months to see which people’s skills have increased or decreased. I have already hired builders to work on the arena. Right now, you all will be training to reach first in this tournament.

If you win, you will prove yourself as the strongest student in the school for two months. Additionally, you will all get specially made weapons of your own designs using magic crystals. This event will start in exactly one week. Start preparing.”

People became excited when they heard that they would get one weapon of their choice made of magic crystals. So, over the past week leading up to this point, people trained in gym and outside of school to be placed first.

Rena and the rest of the Honor’s fighting students were also encouraged. Erin seemed to be thinking about something more than just a weapon though.

“If I get that weapon, I can beat you. After all, it will be a weapon made of magic crystals, right?”

Rune looked at him. He was a tall dragonborn who was wielding two huge greatswords. He pointed one at Rune while speaking.

“What is your strength?”

“It is 30. It’s pretty high, right?’

“Yeah. Compared to most. But didn’t I say my strength is over 9,000? To be specific, it is 19,044. 1,044 over double of 9,000. Even with a weapon made of magic crystals, you can’t hope to beat me. On top of that, every single one of my weapons use magic crystals.”

Erin went silent as he heard the odds of beating Rune was basically about zero percent.

The others trained against each other to become the best among them while the students outside of the Honor’s group was talking about how they could become popular with the opposite sex or what weapon they would have.

Rena yawned as she had dual kamas made of Dark magic crystals. Rune was sitting on the school roof looking down at them. Then he lied on his back and looked at the setting sun. He muttered quietly.

“There aren’t any good enemies…”

Something suddenly whispered in his ears. It sounded like five voices talking at the same time.

“You want a worthy opponent?... I shall give you some…”

Rune sat up and looked around. He didn’t see anyone, but knew that it was not just a voice that he made up. He wouldn’t brush it off as nothing like some others would.

On the day of the tournament, the rest of the class had arrived. They came in carriages and a couple flew in on wyverns. Stacy was actually flying with her dark, feathery wings.

It seemed that a couple of his classmates had found boy or girlfriends over the past six months. To Rune, it seemed that the time he spent in Arborea went by in a flash.

Tyler was actually riding up in a carriage. He was smiling with a stupid grin on his face. As soon as he came out, he introduced Rune to his girlfriend, Mari, a Cat Girl from Aymren village. It seemed that he had helped out the village a lot over the past months and was favored by most of them.

He was slightly feared at first because of his tail, but told Hersker that he was Rune’s friend. He was welcomed in a more friendly manner after that and created business. His business was like a clothing store. Now Aymren village was famous for something that Tyler called a “mall” where he contacted other businesses to gather and start selling many products.

His wife, Mari, was someone who was freed from slavery by him. He had bought her and used his cheat skill, [Ruin], to stop the magic that bound Mari as a slave. Mari then became his maid for a while before he asked her out on a date.

To be truthful, he was actually very rich and was very charitable to the poor. The peasants liked his generosity, but he didn’t hand things out randomly. He only gave to those who tried to help themselves.

Stacy had become the queen in a small kingdom to the south and was managing it well. She was respected as the founder of her territory, which she called Fallen Rome. It was home to the unwanted people and even had some floating islands where people lived.

Jared and Kelly started dating when they met at the last reunion. They were working on a prototype for multiple technologies, but no one wanted to sponsor them. They had a semi-hard time getting by.

Rune heard them talking about this and went up to them.

“I heard that you are working on some modern technology in this medieval world, but you don’t have enough money to do so. Why don’t you work for me. I will give you a place to stay and good food to eat and even money for your projects. The catch is that I will use this tech to further develop my school.”

“R-really?”

“We gladly accept.”

Jared was a Draegloth, but his current human form was that of something that looked like a dark elf or drow. Kelly was a lamia, but her current form was one where she had a snake tail and sharp ears.

Ms. Flustern had come back from a village she had been in. The people there were poor and destitute and she was trying to help them. When she heard that Rune was running a school, she wanted to help.

“Ah, um… Rune. I know that it is bad for a teacher to ask a student for help, but can you help me? I found this village of Bastets, or egyptian cat people, who are in dire straights. They will work for any kind of pay and the children are hungry. Can I count on you to bring them all in? I’m sure you can-”

“Sure. I don’t see why not. I just need someone to teach because there are only a few teachers here. Do you know anything other than math?”

“Well, I can read, write, I did well in the arts, I can cook, sew…”

“Home economics. Can you be in charge of that?”

“Yes! Thank you. Also, if it is not too hard to ask, why are you a human now?”

“Two factors. One was that I gained the power to shapeshift. The other is the Norse relic, Gungnir.”

The class was sitting in a spot underneath the area where the Honor’s class and the teachers were sitting. They were enjoying some popcorn from the refreshments area in the arena. Rune had found the specific type of corn that could be heated up to create popcorn. They also had orange juice from the oranges imported from the south.

The first battle was going to begin between a greatsword wielder and a Fire magic user. They were on both sides of the arena and the entire school was watching. Some parents had also shown up to see how far their children progressed within a month.

When the two competitors were ready, Mrs. Nortiore used a huge mallet to hit a gong. The sound resounded throughout the coliseum and the match began.

The greatsword wielder’s name was Lyne. He was a Majin who came when he heard of this school from the Majin Empress. She had told some people to spread fliers that some people could go to the human continent to learn in a school that doesn’t discriminate.

The Fire magic user’s name was Ein. He was a High Elf who wanted to try out a “inferior race’s” school and came to the ALF school. He was surprised when he came to the school and was interested the education and fighting systems and the food was great.

The battle began and the greatsword user rushed the other student. The Fire magic user moved back and cast [Fire Lance] which created a rod of fire that flew at Lyne. Lyne dodged and counter attacked with an overhead swing of his sword.

Ein moved behind Lyne and cast [Flame Bearer] which summoned a gout of flames from his palm. The fire moved towards Lyne and he ducked just in time for the fire to go over his head and he lunged at Ein with his sword.

In a single strike with ferocious precision, he struck Ein in the heart. Unable to continue with just a single attack, Ein lost the match.

To prevent the students from dying they would have a thin, but strong barrier and the winning system would be decided by how strong the attack was and where it was placed.

It was clearly evident from how far the man flew back as well as where it hit that Ein had lost. Lyne held his sword up in the air to symbolize his victory and it seemed like an auspicious day.

He raised his sword as the cloud darkened and thunder was heard. It seemed like he had summoned the storm until he looked up in surprise at it.

Suddenly, a lightning bolt struck the ground and there was a blinding light. People had to cover their eyes and, when they looked back, there was a blue dragon standing in the middle of the arena.
