It's a damn labyrinth, isn't it.
Jason stared at a long corridor that was filled with torches. The walls were made of stone and everything had a dark scary atmosphere to it. Jason started down as far as he could down the hall but he could only see darkness after 100 feet.
"Frick this isn't going to be fun"
Boops tried to give advice
'you know, if you follow the wall on the left you will eventually reach the end.'
Jason laughed to himself
"ha I'm not that desperate to try that"
He looked at the darkness at the end of the corridor. Took a deep breath and plunged in. He expected some light to show up so he could navigate the labyrinth, but it seems that the maker was an evil bastard and made the people walk that labyrinth with no light. Well, Jason could have prepared but who does that anymore.
With no light source in the darkness of the corridors, Jason lost sight of the exit. With no idea where he was, he pulled out his sword and started using it as a walking cane. He held it in his dominant hand and centered it in front of his body sweeping from left to right in a pattern about shoulder with.
Jason kept on walking, his walking speed was at an amazing 60 steps per minute. Jason didn't know how blind people in his old world were able to move because to Jason it felt even more difficult than when he was being chased by a giant monster gorilla. He ran into so many walls that his face felt a bit flat and hit so many corners with his ankle he was pretty sure it was already bleeding.
Jason felt like he was going nowhere. He started thinking about anything he had that could be used as a light source. He thought about his status board but even though it gave off a weird glow it didn't illuminate anything on the corner of Jason's eye. He thought about magic, didn't have that even though he read a crap ton of books about them.

It was weird how he didn't actually get stronger from reading all of the many books in the library. Sometimes he got the occasional intelligence point and the skill level up but otherwise it was something along the lines of 'you have gained information about etc..'
To Jason right now it was useless. But whatever he was sure Boops could use it for something useful later. Jason started getting desperate after staring into absolutely nothing, yet being able to feel walls on his side and put his hands on them. He remembered that when he used his skill Precise strike it gave off a soft glow.
He raised his sword and activated the skill.
A blue light covered Jason's sword and stayed there for 5 seconds and then was put out. With those 5 seconds, Jason was able to get a quick glimpse of his surroundings, which didn't amount to much. It was just a long corridor with two walls on his side. Jason had about 5 meters in between the two walls and he still couldn't see the end of the corridor.
Jason was on the brink of logging out and taking a break when Boops started talking.
'Jason I was looking through all of the information that I just got. I found something about mana manipulation.'
Jason paused and focused intently on Boop's voice
"continue"
'Okay, close your eyes and use precise strike again, you should feel something exiting you.'
Jason used the skill and true to Boop's words he did feel a stream of energy leave him. He couldn't piece together where the energy came from or how it could be moved, but he knew about the energies existence and that was enough for now.
Boops kept on looking thought the information
'Okay, according to one of the books you just read, that steam of energy was mana and its everywhere. Blah blah, you know this stuff, its basically the energy of the world, and the source of magic and other important skills.'

"Okay, and how is understanding mana going to make me able to see?"
'mana is blue, glowy blue'
"details"
'so if you get the mana manipulation skill then you should be able to emit a strand of mana and therefore light. You can transform that into an element but that's magic and something for later. You can train mana manipulation by, well manipulating mana'
"so I should use precise strike when the cooldown is over to understand mana and how it feels?"
'Yeah, just keep on doing it while focusing on the steam of energy and you should get the skill in no time.'
Jason didn't know how long he was using his skill but he was just walking down the maze following its twist and turns, sometimes he had light thanks to his skill but most of the time he didn't.
Eventually, he just gave up and used Boop's strategy of following the left wall the entire time. On the plus side, he didn't need to look around for any more exits or entrances in the maze and could run with one hand on the left wall as best as he could in the dark. Thankfully there weren't any traps or monsters.
Just as Jason as again going to fall into despair a notification popped up as he studied the stream of energy leaving his body again.
[you have gained the skill (mana manipulation)]
[thanks to the knowledge you have gained already +1 level]
[(mana manipulation level 2): you can manipulate mana]
And then right in front of Jason was light. Not the light from Jason's mana but from the labyrinth itself. Jason sprinted his footsteps getting lighter and lighter. The joy on his face and a smile about to erupt from his face.
Boops started muttering really fast
'please don't be what I think it is, please don't be what I think it is, please don't be what I think it is'
Jason landed in front of the lit-up hall a giant slap of marble was displayed on top of a large door.
[answer thine question prepared for the on thee slab, declare thy answer and thy door shall open]
Jason looked carefully at the question written on the slab.
The question
If x is the average (arithmetic mean) of m and 9, y is the average of 2m and 15, and z is the average of 3m and 18, what is the average of x, y, and z in terms of m?
"friickkkkkkkkkkk"

A Broken World [Rewrite]
In a world of floating islands of stone in the sky, where rivers flow through the air and defy gravity from one island to another, and ancient ruins can be found containing wonders beyond what can be produced by the lands current inhabitants- a millenia long war rages. In the distant past, beyond recorded history, when the crown of humanity's glory, the city of Uri, had stood whole against the enroaching demon swarms- even as hope seemed lost, a band of heroes, against all odds, managed to steal powerful magical knowledge from the demons. With the demon's forbidden knowledge, in the heart of Uri a new ritual was made. Called, "The Millenial Summoning," the ritual had the power to call a being from another world that would have the power to change the world forever. The first being summoned became known as "The Speaker," and he brought the power of the Gods to the world. With the blessings and power of the new priests, the unstoppable demon hordes were finally halted. A thousand years later, the ritual was used again and "The First Sorceress" was brought to the world. She brought the knowledge of advanced magics, and techniques to find and refine magical talent. With the magic power now added to the battlefield, the stalemate was broken. And for the first time, the demons were pushed back. Another thousand years later, and all of humanites hope for a final victory were dashed. Traitors slew the ritual's participants and took their places, and humanity quaked as The Demon King stepped into the world. His name, his nature, where he came from none of these are known, but what is known is his overwhelming power and his brilliant strategic leadership of the formerly formless hordes. Still, despite their position being even more dire than it has ever been since history has been recorded, humanity held on for another thousand years. Aided, thankfully, by The Demon King not taking the field after the first few years and battles. Now, the ritual is being cast again and a new hero is being summoned. In our world, after nearly three decades of study and hard work, Lucas Jaeger is making his dreams come true. With a double doctorate in both genetics and microbiology, as well as an associates degree in accounting, he has finally, after nearly driving himself mad from stress and sick from overwork, been able to put to together a presentation and ask for a business loan. His long time dream, earned by his own blood and sweat, to start his own commercial genetic company is finally coming to fruition. Lucas's car never left the banks parking lot and Lucas was never seen again in our world. This is a rewrite of "A Broken World." It is basically the same story, just a thousand times better and with decent length chapters!

8 309The Mortal Acts
The Mortal Acts is an epic progression fantasy with a lower focus on training aspects and a great focus on discovering new ways of using powers intelligently. I've always been drawn to stories where characters use their powers creatively to overcome opponents and obstacles, and I think all the possibilities can provide a great playground for twists and turns. It's inspired by a variety of media, including Will Wight's Cradle, Hunter x Hunter, and Bioshock, so if you like the creative power use elements from those, come check it out. This is my first serial, and please feel free to leave comments and feedback. For backstory, behind-the-scenes, and other fun stuff, come chat on my discord! Become a patron to read up to 20 chapters ahead here! Blurb: Riven Morell cuts short his regular life at school and home when his mother falls terminally ill. Desperate to find a cure, he travels to Severance Frontier, a desolate land haunted by hordes of ghosts, witches, and demons collectively called the Deathless. But a miraculous cure doesn’t magically fall into his hands. Things are worse in Severance Frontier than Riven had assumed. Ghosts are banding together into armies, demons are kidnapping anyone who strays out of settlements, and witches are enslaving everyone left and right. Riven, of course, gets embroiled in the mess. Missions to curb the Deathless activity are one thing, but when it starts to look like this is just the beginning of a war that extends beyond the mortal realm, Riven has a hard time focusing on why he came to Severance Frontier in the first place. His mother is inching towards death with every passing day, but if he doesn’t face down the Deathless, what little civilization the Frontier holds will be overrun and destroyed. Thankfully, it looked like the Deathless might just hold the secret of the elusive cure.

8 64The Fall of The Gods
Synopsis: In the year 1966, an army of Orishas led by Sango stormed Amadioha’s palace and razed it the ground, starting a decades-long war between two of Nigeria’s most powerful divine orders. Blinded by the rage of battle, the gods did not detect the rise of a third power, far greater and deadlier than anything they could have imagined. When gods, on both the Yoruba and Igbo sides, begin falling mysteriously to their death, Sango seeks the help of Odion, a Lagos teenager destined to rise from his dark past to become a hero. But can a human hero save the gods from a doomed fate? The Fall of the Gods is an action-packed YA fantasy based on the mythical bond that ties human life with the realm of the divine. It demonstrates the power of stories to change our lives. It also reminds us that Sango and Amadioha are not relics of the past and that, sometimes, what it means to be a hero in today’s world is knowing how to find inspiration in the stories of the gods. PLEASE NOTE: Weekly chapters will be released every friday along with interludes once in a while about Nigerian mythology. I'm a young 17 year old writer and I am new to the site so I will appreciate your comments and reviews. Thank you very much.
