Butterfly effect.

Where a seemingly natural act of a butterfly flapping its wings in Brazil can cause a tornado in Texas. It reminds us that everything is interdependent upon each other. Things that seem totally irrelevant could possibly drastically alter the course of the future.

While writing, an author has to always draw the curiosity and interest of the reader. To do this he/she needs to focus on the plot and not on stuff that the character should do in order to get there.

For example, let's take the following hypothesis: If your character has to go up to his room which is on the second floor. There exists two options, one where he either takes the elevator or he takes the stairs.

Let's assume he takes the stairs and goes up to his room. But as soon as he enters his apartment he’s attacked. The character manages to defend and a battle takes place. But he soon finds out that he and his opponent are both equally matched and a battle of endurance commences. But because the character had just taken the stairs, he lags behind and soon ends up dead.

As we can see here, seemingly unrelated events like taking the stairs ends up taking the characters life. Some might argue, what if he hadn’t taken the stairs. If he had done so, then he might not have even made it past the surprise attack in the first place.

Keep in mind that when the character took the stairs his body warmed up and it made it easier for him to take the attack. But when he took the elevator, suddenly moving his muscles too hard and too fast had a high chance of causing a sprain or a cramp.

This is where the line between real life and a book can be drawn. In real life, too many factors are in play which makes it almost impossible to predict what the future holds for us. Small actions that we take, continuously shape our future. This also makes us wonder about the vastness of the world and how little or large our lives may amount to.

When Reid didn’t allow his maid to clean himself up, our how he suddenly fell unconscious in the beginning of the transmigration or the act of him hugging Miller. All these small deviations from the actions of what the real Reid might have taken eventually piled up and resulted in this outcome.

Reid knew this and that is why he wasn’t naïve enough to even assume that he could possibly maintain the flow of things as they might have occurred without his intrusion.
