《The war of the Gods》Jason (Part 1)

The moment the sun set, Jason and Conner were on their bikes, homeward bound to reach the wake. They would hardly make it but vampires could not tolerate the sun. Especially young ones like them. There was just no way they would survive and the family had lost enough. They reached home just in time to see the last few family friends depart, leaving just aunt Linda and Jake in the driveway when Jason and Conner pulled into it. Jacob cried out Jason's name and the elder brother barely had time to dismount before a set of scrawny arms wrapped around him. He hugged his younger brother back then finally had a chance to pull off his helmet. His eyes locked on Jacob's. The sadness in his younger brother's eyes was painful. Jason's eyes fell shut and he gave a heavy sigh. What could he say? Nothing would make this better. All throughout their childhood Jason had done everything in his power to protect Jacob. Killing his uncle was his final gift to his younger brother. He had vowed to protect Jacob, no matter what. He'd spent time in Juvie for his uncle's death but he'd been let out on good behaviour barely two months ago.

That was when his life changed. Whether for the better or not was the prevailing question. He'd met a man that promised he would never have to fear death again. He'd have strength and power beyond comparison. And before this fateful meeting he hardly knew anything about the supernatural world. He'd become the second successful man made vampire. He'd immediately turned Conner. Now he avoided the sun and drank blood. Life was different but it was far more bearable now than before. He even thought of turning Jamie and Jacob. Jacob was still in the dark as well as the rest of his immediate family.

"You're too late!" Jason was pulled from his reverie by aunt Linda's poison laced words. "You missed your own parents funeral. You can get back on that bike and just leave again." She was scowling at the two delinquents. She still didn't believe that her husband was capable of the things that Jason had accused them off. Thankfully there had been a good lawyer on Jason's side that had gotten involuntary manslaughter. Jason scowled back.

"No! They just got here!" Jake cried out and looked panicked between Jason and his aunt.

"This is my house. If anyone should leave, it's you." Jason announced then nodded for his best friend to join him toward the house. Just as he was about to pass the scowling bullfrog, she grabbed at his arm and dug her horribly manicured nails into his skin. It was, by all accounts a stand off.

"I'm here to look after your brother since neither you or your brother seem to be able to do." She hissed low trying to keep Jacob from hearing what she was saying. Jason was sure Jacob could hear every little word.

"Like your husband looked after me?" Jason spat back.

Just then the familiar rumble of the pick up closed in on the house and just as it pulled into the drive behind the bikes, Linda roughly released Jason still sending death glares in his direction. Reece and Jamie hurried to greet Jason and Conner and invited them inside.

"Excuse me!" Linda cried and the gang of boys, all in the progress off entering the house, turned in unison to face her. "I believe that those two delinquents are a bad influence on young Jacob and as his guardian, I refuse to allow any contact." She stamped her dainty little foot on the cement floor, much to everyone's amusement. Jamie was the one to step forward, placing a hand on Jason's chest to keep him from clawing the woman's eyes out right where she stood.

"Aunt Linda. I believe your work is done here. As an adult, I have decided to take legal guardianship of my brother and ..."

"And until you do, the boy is my responsibility. I will not allow this boy to be influenced by that craton!" Aunt Linda pushed paused all of them and stopped in the doorway to the house, acting as a barrier to it. "Now shall I involve the police in this matter? I heard you are still on parole." Jason's glare grew just a little more hateful. If the police got involved and it was discovered that he was making trouble, he'd get sent back to prison. If it was discovered he was supernatural.... well, the place where vampires went was not a good place. Jason twisted round and headed back to his Harley. Conner followed behind. Despite Jamie, Reece and Jacob's pleas, he didn't stop his retreat.
