《WriTE Halloween Contest》The Swarm - by RedDragonyte13

It’s been several years since the swarm of bugs came to earth. We thought they came in peace… we were wrong. Millions dead in the first day, only the strongest survived. My name is Vaughn and this is my story.
“Vaughn! We have to get in the cellar! They’re coming!” My wife Lindsay shouted as she grabbed our son, Thomas and ran into the cellar.
I stood there, dumbfounded at what was happening.
‘They said they were coming in peace… those goddamn liars!’ I thought in rage.
I heard the sound of chittering in the distance. They’re here.
“Shit!” I shouted as I ran to the cellar.
We were there for hours.
Days.
Weeks.
They didn’t leave.
We took our chances and ran.
It was a mistake, Lindsay was ripped in half with Thomas in her arms.
I screamed in despair as I fell to my knees. But, they ignored me.
They just crawled past me and ate everyone else.
I was the only one.
The only survivor.
I swore to avenge my family.
My friends.
My sanity.
It took five years, but I finally got enough people together to put up a fight against those… those monsters.
“Now! My friends! We shall go to war against that shit eating swarm! Let’s go!” I shouted to the resistance.
“”YEAH!!!”” Thousands of men and women shouted back.
“TO WAR!!!” I shouted as I opened the door and gunned down two of the giant bugs outside.
The resistance followed suit and started to gun down every fucking bug they saw.
But. It was all for nothing. Even if we killed thousands. Thousands came back.
There’s just too many of them.
Everyone’s going to die.
I’m going to die.
I… don’t want to die.
...I’m not going to die!

I’m going to rebuild!
I’m going to kill every single one of those giant bug fucks!
“RETREAT!!!” I shouted.
The sound of hundreds of men and women running towards me hit my ears.
Then, the chittering.
Every second, dozens of soldiers died.
Until, there was only one left.
Me.
I’m the sole survivor, again!
“Why!? Why am I the only one to survive!?” I asked myself. Not noticing the chittering behind me. Until it was too late.
“Huh?” I said as I felt the mandibles of the giant bugs on my neck.
Then, I heard a crunching sound.
Then… nothing.
THE END.

Shades Of Meaning Book 1 : Ghost Shy
Grace tried never to interact with the ghosts that plagued her. After years of practice she was pretty good at pretending they didn't exist. Life was almost normal. That is until she was betrayed and kidnapped. Then it went to hell fast. Breaking free of her captors was only the first step. Blue Road
Richard didn't heed his guardian's warnings about the mysterious and shady place from the flyer he came across. He wanted a big break and a chance to make quick and easy money, but never expected to find himself tricked and caught in a twisted experiment conjured up by scientists. Transformed into a monstrous blue, blob-like creature, Richard flees the scene in a panic. He teams up with a ghostly child named Fawn, who wants revenge on her parents' killer, and leaves town to find the one responsible for their (recently) destroyed lives. Federal Agents, corrupt corporate heads, shady scientists, and even the police are all on his trail. Richard will need to use his newly honed skills to uncover the truth of who's really behind the scenes, and who to trust. What will they uncover? [Heads up, it's going to be a slow burn, and will take a while for the story to really get going.]
