《Lord of the skies》Chapter 15 - The calm before the storm

The city was becoming more and more complex. In the beginning, the elders held the power while the others were only mere paws of the system. Now, the system was slowly taking its influence away from the city, and it let everyone know that eventually, someone would control the city.
Factions were forming everywhere with the intent to control the city when the time arrives. the city missions were almost unavailable because people thought that they would have great importance and began to amass them.
The complexity was becoming bigger and bigger. Bryan didn’t like it. He only wanted to survive in this cursed land.
Although a long time had passed since the system gave the message, nothing happened. It was as if the system was giving the people time to prepare.
Bryan and company were not preparing to fight for control of the city, but control of their fate. They had amassed enough money through these last months to buy something that would change the balance if something were to happen to them.
There were some items and skills that were limited and had requirements to be bough. they were very powerful according to their descriptions.
The unique item that Bryan was interested in was named Zeus Bolt. A spear that was supposedly made of lightning. With it, Bryan expected that his powers could be augmented enough so that he could get more safety for him and his friends.
Selecting the weapon on the blue scream, it appeared in front of him after deducting almost all of his points.
Points
7.415.634 → 165.634
The spear was blue all over its surface, but not because of the metal but because of the symbols like runes that were freely flowing over it. The material used to forge it was something that looked like silver but was much stronger. Bryan could feel the power of the weapon. He tried to infuse a little bit of lightning in it, and the result was surprising.
“WONNN”
The energy was multiplied by it. making its power even more deadly.
Bryan was amazed by the effect of the weapon and began to swing it. He was now on the roof of his building. When he made the first swing, the energy left the weapon, leaving a huge gash in the ground.
His eyes almost popped out of his socks. The weapon was even more powerful than he imagined. Until now, the building had proven to be very resistant to damage, and almost nothing could destroy it, now, he could.
He immediately left the building and went to the training center to see the full potential of it.

arriving there, the place was a desert, because there was no one there. not even the elder that usually stayed there was in it. He found it strange but dismissed it.
After arriving there, he signalized the system and entered the mindscape.
Arriving there, he selected a horde of monster and began the slaughter.
The creatures didn’t stand a chance, the spear made his attacks even more powerful and concentrated, the blue lightning flashed from one side to the other of the place and the monsters fell one after the other.
After the time was up, Bryan left the mindscape and was amazed by the weapon, even more, its effects were grander than he thought.
Samuel and Jessica were going to buy unique weapons as well, he wanted them to buy them as soon as possible to get used to it.
***
After getting home and cultivating for the rest of the night, Bryan felt refreshed, he was a new man now. His powers had soared beyond what he thought possible with the spear, and there was still much ground to go yet.
He got up and went to the kitchen to eat breakfast with Jess.
“Honey, did you buy the moonlight bow? If not, you should. The spear’s powers surprised even me.” Said Bryan after arriving at the kitchen.
“I know what you are talking about. After getting the last needed points from the mission yesterday, I brought it. I believe what you’re saying, the weapon power is amazing. But I still think it was to cheap for the power that the bow holds, I think there is still something more to it.” Said Jess with a frown on her face. The weapon power was unbelievable, but it was too cheap for the power that they got, they only trained and made missions for a few months to get them.
“Don’t worry about it honey, the important thing is that the weapons are now in our hands, no one's gonna take them from us.” Said Bryan with a reassuring face.
“Well, if that’s what you say, I’ll try to keep my mind at ease.”
Bryan smiled and caressed her face. then said.
“Samuel must have gotten the Aegis shield by now. We should go to the training hall to test the weapons together. “ Said, Bryan.
“Of course we should, the dynamics of our combat must have changed a lot after getting our hands at these weapons.” Completed Jess.
After finishing their morning activities, they went toward Samuel's house and called him to go to the training hall.
After getting there, they accessed the system terminal and entered the mindscape to train.

The bow that was now in Jess's hand almost looked like it was forged from ice. It had a mysterious aura around it and looked godly, there was no bowstring to be seen, but when Jessica put her hand on it, a mana string magically appeared. Just like his weapon, various runes were flowing over the weapon surface.
Samuel’s shield looked majestic, it had a lion carved in the surface roaring, on the border there were dragons coiling around the shield, eating the other one's tails, looking almost like an ouroboros, but instead of having only one snake, it had three dragons.
The monsters surged from the plains. Samuel went to the front and activated the shield, a golden aura began to appear around him, together with the aura, a golden armor also appeared.
Samuel brandished his shield in front of him and dashed in encounter of the horde. He slowly approached them and the impact finally came.
But instead of standing his ground or stopping, he continued to advance. the monsters looked like insects on his way and nothing could make him stop.
A few seconds after the impact, some shadows began to appear from the sky, and some things began to fall.
Arrows began to descend like raindrops. The arrows killed many monsters and stopped the ones in the back to advance, after all, all the ground and creatures around where the arrows fell freeze like icicles.
“Hey Jess, you didn’t let any monster for me to defend from!” Complained Samuel from the front.
“It’s not like you didn’t test your powers muscle brain.” Said her while laughing.
“Now that the two of you have shown what you are capable of, let me do it as well,” Said Bryan while running to the front.
Lightning began to appear around him, and some clouds was revolving around him as well, hiding his features and his body completely.
It was like a monster was hiding inside these clouds, and it was preparing to hunt.
Bryan jumped above the frozen space that Jess created and appeared above the rest of the monsters that were left behind. Blue lightning and thunder began to concentrate inside the cloud where he was hiding. Suddenly, lightning began to fall like raindrops from the cloud as a center, enveloping the whole battlefield, destroying the ground and all the monsters the were in the way.
Bryan slowly descended amidst the clouds and was amazed after seeing the damage that he had done to his surrounds.
The ground was almost leveled, there were only charred remains left.
Everything was quiet for a moment. There was only the silence left behind.
Suddenly a voice interrupted saying.
“WOOW, you got some power behind these punches buddy.” Said, Samuel.
They laughed and continued to train.
***
They passed the rest of the day training on the mindscape and only left when it was already night.
The streets were deserted, and no soul could be seen walking by.
“Hey guys, it’s only me that thinks it’s strange that there is no one walking at this hour or do you guys think the same?” Asked Samuel.
“I agree with you Sam, something very strange is happening, let’s go home and try to discover what this is about tomorrow.” Said Bryan.
Jessica and Bryan parted ways with Samuel and went toward their apartment.
“Do you think the factions are preparing to fight? The system has not moved yet, so how could they do something?” Asked Jess.
“Maybe, they don’t think the system will involve itself in the fights before some announcement, but the storm is arriving, everyone can feel it.” Said Bryan.
“Maybe they want to eliminate the competition before the fight begins. there are only two main factions from what we know, the elder faction and the Shifters. The rest are just trash trying to get a piece of the cake.” Said Jess.
“So, do you think this is one of the big factions doing? The elders had amassed quite a bit of power from commanding the city for some time, so it could be them.” Said Bryan.
“Maybe it could be the elders, but we can’t know for sure. We can be sure that the elder faction is making their moves as well, these days it’s hard to see anyone from the elder faction on the system buildings. Maybe it has already begun for some time now, and we were the ones that didn’t realize because we were focused on training.”
“It doesn’t matter now, I think we made the right decision from focusing on personal power. I think that now, neither of the two factions would want to mess with us.” Bryan smiled while saying this.
“For us, personal power is enough. But for others… I don’t know, there is still something strange to me.” Said Jess.
“What is it?”
“Nothing, just a hunch. let’s wait for tomorrow to come first. let’s rest for today.” Jessica said while pointing at the building that was in front of them now. They had finally arrived at their apartment.

The Mystifying Diviner
Content warning, there is cursing in the story and there will be some pretty heavy sexual innuendos in it also. I don’t really plan to write gore, but there will be fight scenes. Fair warning to readers, it is a slow start. But hopefully it is enjoyable for you to read. Follow the story of an old chef who was lucky to be selected to become a system host. Well maybe not so lucky, because gaining the system killed him. He will be given a system that might not be the best match for him. While also having to deal with a snarky system monitor who might not be that helpful most of the time. He will also use his new found powers to enjoy life in a new younger body. What you can expect from this story is bad writing, poor grammar, and slow pacing maybe. Food, cooking, comedy, slice of life, fighting, exploring, tournaments, scamming and probably face slapping. I mean who doesn’t like a good face slapping? This is my take on a cultivation story, a lot of Eastern stuff will be crammed into with a mix of Western. This story started as a goal for myself to write 60,000 words in a month for NaNoWriMo. I was able to do it even with taking days off and not writing. I plan to keep writing the story, but at a slightly slower pace. I am aiming for 2-3 chapters a week now with about 4-7k words written. This is only posted on RoyalRoad currently, and I have no plans to change that for now. Cover art is by Jack0fheart [Participant in the 2021 Royal Road Writathon Challenge for the month of November 2021]

Truck-kun Gets Sacrificed
Driscoll is my own version of a world with a game-like "system" of endless possibilities. MC has his own status, classes, skills, magic, and a living greatswordstaff in a world of monsters, demi-humans of all kinds, and even the supernatural. Sound good? Well, at first for Tru, it was a dream come true(I'm sorry). At least until reality hits him again and again. His quest from God is vague and must be discovered by him along the way. Hopefully, he can figure that out someday but for now, this new world's threats and his potential for power are motivation aplenty. With His new partner by his side, he's ready to embark on his mission of infinite sacrifice, however many lives it takes. The setting is pretty standard for fantasy, with my beginner attempts at writing. Litrpg elements are definitely involved here but It'll calm down as the story progresses and the world's foundation is laid. Judeo/Christian themes and principles take a major role and will be a backbone for much of the story. The fights will paint a picture in the mind rather than just be a bunch of number crunching. While he is meant to be a sacrifice to save all of Driscoll, he needs to gain enough power and influence to be a worthwhile sacrifice, or so he thinks. And so carnage will ensue as he avoids death as best he can while at the same time sacking himself for others. Truck Coon is your average determined, jiu-jitsu practitioner, tax associate that just started his new career. He dies to save kids from a semi-truck(Truck Coon got truck-kun'd, making him Truck-kun) and is transported to another world rather conventionally by God. Upon his arrival, he is quickly confronted with his first conflicts in the wild. Give it a shot and let me know what you think. Chapters are currently between 2300 and 4000 words and I try to post weekly, but also deal with severe limitations that cause late posts often. I have zero actual experience with writing stories and only recently started reading web novels in 2020. If you end up hating it, let me know your thoughts in a detailed comment or review, especially if you love it though :D I want to get better and welcome the feedback, so expect changes to be made with any flaws that y'all point out which I don't already have plans to address in future chapters. That being said, keep it constructive in nature, please. I have no Idea how the formatting and such will go, so if you like or dislike some techniques I try, give me that well-appreciated feedback! Thank you for reading.
