《Griffon's Fury!》Chapter 17: BARON CLAUS

It took only several minutes for the sky lizard to reach the Lord’s manor. As soon as it landed on the platform, closing its wings, Primus turned and looked at Nero.
“It’s time, Young Master,” said the man as he used his inner energy and slowly put down the body under the cloak at the stretchers which were long prepared. There were already some people gathered near the platform when they finally stepped on the ground.
The boy quietly followed the Primus as they passed through one column after another, while knights and mages saluted them. Nero paid no attention to people but concentrated his gaze on their armor, robes, and surrounding buildings, which were glowing from time to time. He had seen nothing like that and mentally noted to learn about it as soon as possible. Even though all these things were new and very shocking, Nero calmed his curiosity and just clenched his fists, holding the same stoic expression on his face to hide shock, curiosity, and other feelings. He still wasn't sure whether he could trust these people.
Soon, after ten minutes, Primus raised his hand and everyone stopped when they just reached a beautiful pond with fish, swimming there. When Nero raised his head and looked for the reason, he noticed an old man with gray hair in the armor who was quickly approaching them. Before that man even reached them, Primus already fell on his knees and bowed to that figure. Other knights and mages who accompanied them mirrored his action, leaving only Nero who kept standing.
“My Lord, as promised, I returned her home,” said Primus as he continued to look at the ground.
“You may raise,” said baron Claus as he nodded and approached him, but Primus continued to stand on his knees.
“My Lord, I deserve punishment. If I came a bit earlier, she would have ...” said Primus when the old man interrupted him.
“Enough. It’s not your fault. I saw those reports. You made everything you could and arrived much earlier than expected. It was just another of her mistakes. Why hasn’t she activated her signal earlier? Silly girl,” said the man as he approached the stretchers.
Nero, who was watching and listening to their conversation, felt how rage filled his eyes as he clenched his fists. Just when the baron was about to touch the cloak, Nero’s patience burst and he gathered all his strength in his right hand, in which he tightly clenched his training sword. Just when Baron touched the cloak, his brow rose, and he turned right when a sword appeared near to his face.
“Never call her like that,” said Nero as he threw his sword, imprinted with his inner energy.
Of course, mages and knights who were still on their knees regarding the Primus jumped on their legs, but they only saw a fast blue line that quickly flew through them. They could only unleash their swords and adjust staffs when the sword was already an inch away from their baron.

Nero, who fell on his knees from fatigue, kept looking at him with rage in his eyes when Baron Claus only released his breath. A moment and Nero’s training sword transformed into the dust while the old man shook off the dust from his clothes and looked at Nero who was already surrounded by several swords and staffs near to his neck. Baron only spent a moment looking at him before turning and looking at the scratchers and taking the cloak to look inside.
Nero, who could no longer do anything and even say a word, just continued to look at his grandfather, who was now looking at his mother’s face. The boy only gritted his teeth, not because he failed to make him take his words, but because he saw there was no reaction. Baron Claus only looked at his mother with a stoic expression on his face. Nothing moved or changed on it as if he never looked at the face of his dead daughter, but looked at the ordinary thing he saw every day.
In such a manner, several moments passed before the old man returned the cloak and turned away.
“Bury her at her favorite place below that tree,” said Baron Claus as he started moving towards the big, beautiful manor. “Primus, come to me as soon as possible.”
“It will be done, my Lord,” said Primus and saluted at the back of that man.
Other knights and mages also bowed and watched how their Lord slowly moved when he paused and turned, looking at Nero, who was laying at the ground. Rage filled his eyes as he looked at him. Their eyes met and an invisible tension appeared between them. There was so much tension that even the surrounding mages and knights felt it.
“You have her eyes,” said baron Claus before a smile appeared on his lips. “That’s why you are still breathing, boy.”
As soon as he said those words, goosebumps passed through Nero’s spine as he felt as if he looked at the monster, not a human. He didn't doubt his words because he felt the real threat behind his words. It wasn't a threat to scare him, but the one which could easily take life. Nero had felt nothing like that and cold sweat appeared on his forehead. Ethel who was at his shoulder also adjusted his posture, ready for battle as he cautiously looked at that man, but soon baron Claus only turned and continued his way with the same stoic expression on his face.
Nero only released a sigh of relief when Primus approached him and gave a signal to relax to the mages and knights.
“Not bad for the start,” said the man as he patted Nero’s shoulders. “Since he didn’t kill you, then he believes you are indeed his descendent.”
Nero ignored him and just took Ethel into his hands to calm down his racing heart while Primus only smiled as he watched after his actions. Even though hate and rage, filled Nero, he was still a child in comparison with his Lord.

As soon as Lord disappeared, Primus cleared his throat and started giving commands while Nero slowly stood on his legs.
A beautiful woman of eighteen years old, dressed as a maid, appeared before him and bowed.
“Greetings, Young Master. My name is Clara, I am your personal maid, please follow me, I will show you your chambers,” said the woman as she bowed.
Nero spent a moment looking at the woman with brown hair and brown eyes. She had a fit body and visible hills on her chest. She was dressed in maid's form with a dagger on her leg. Overall, Nero felt no danger or threat from her and nodded, following her.
...
..
.
As soon as he and Clara passed through several buildings, forest and ended up inside a lonely manor, at the eastern side of the complex. When they finally reached his room, Nero, already exhausted to open his mouth in shock, tried to keep an indifferent expression on his face, but all his efforts were futile when Clara approached the door to his room and smiled, looking at him. That's why Nero just moved with the flow and tried to get as much information as possible. He was still unsure whether he will be safe here with that crazy old man.
“Young Master, this is your chambers,” said the maid as she opened the door and entered inside.
As soon as Nero followed her, his eyes and mouth wide agape as he looked at many things inside. There were many things there, starting with chairs, armchairs, tables, and cupboards. In short, there were so many things which he never saw in his village and all of them were glowing from time to time. He was under cultural shock when Clara smiled and looked at him.
“This is your waiting room, Young Master. You can meet your guests here,” said the woman as she already wanted to move further when Nero stopped her.
“Wait, a bit. My chambers are not one-room?” asked the boy.
Clara only widened her smile and nodded at him.
“Of course, Young Master, your chambers comprise several rooms, training field, meditation room, study room, and many others. In short, the whole area around the east side of the Lord’s manor is dedicated solely to you and you are the only one who lives here,” explained Clara with a polite smile on her lips.
“What about that bas, I mean Lord, where does he live?” asked Nero while a woman only widened her smile a bit, understanding what he wanted to say.
“Lord lives in the western part of the complex,” said Clara as she scrutinized the boy. “Do you have any more questions?”
“Yes,” said Nero, as he patted at the glowing things at the nearest table. “What is that? Why is it glowing?”
It was Clara’s turn to widen her eyes in surprise.
“You don’t know?” asked the woman as if it was a common thing to know to which Nero only nodded.
“Back at my village, there were no things like that. I mean, of course, we had different furniture, but none of them were glowing and I never felt strange energy from them,” explained Nero, to which Clara nodded with an understanding expression on her face.
“I see,” said Clara. “This is a chant, placed by the enchanter Young Master.”
“A chant?” asked Nero with a dumbfounded expression before a certain realization stuck him as his lights shined with a certain light. “Do you mean it’s a piece of work, created by the enchanting specialist who knows how to use his mana differently than spells?”
Clara only smiled politely and nodded as she watched how a boy in front of her started looking at the ordinary chair from all angles and didn’t know what to do.
She didn’t even notice how she got trapped and Nero started pouring her with different questions about that chair and other things in the room. Only after another half an hour, a bit exhausted Clara and delighted, Nero, entered the next room.
As soon as Nero saw what was inside, he got frozen to his spot and only raised his hand pointing at the enormous bed inside.
“Is it for me?” asked the boy, while Clara once again nodded with a polite smile on her lips.
“How am I supposed to sleep at that giant if ten adult people can easily sleep there?” asked Nero, as he looked at Clara.
The maid only widened her smile.
“You will get used to it, Young Master,” said the woman.
Nero only released a sigh while Ethel quickly jumped from his shoulder right at the bed, and started moving a blanket before he constructed a small entrance to the warm and dark cave before he disappeared there, leaving his friend behind.
“At least you liked our new home,” said Nero as smiled bitterly and looked at Clara.
“Young Master, this is a thing with which you can call me if you need something,” said the woman as he gave a small circular object to Nero. “Just press it in the center and I will come.”
Nero only nodded and quickly placed it into his bracelet in his left hand while Clara bowed and disappeared behind the door.
When his maid left him, Nero threw another glance at his new home and released a tired sigh before sitting at the edge of the bed. He was exhausted both physically and mentally. Even his short walk here was a big challenge for him and he could fall at any moment. That's why as soon as he was sure that Clara left, he laid on the soft bed and fall asleep. Now when there was anyone who could be a potential threat to him, the boy finally relaxed his nerves.

The main character will not be OP immediately and will develop into one in his own way over time. This series is built less like modern Japanese, Korean, and Chinese webnovels and more like the old school fanstasy novels like DND and Forgotten Realms.
