《World 2.0(DROPPED)》Chapter 5: First quest

I put the card in my pocket and began walking over to the quest-board. As I didn't have a group right now, I had to do it alone. It was going to be hard, but I did not want to sleep on the street.
That's when I looked up and saw someone waiting.
It was that dude with the long blonde hair.
I wonder what he wants.
He walked over to me, presumably to have a conversation.
“Have we met before?”, he asked, with a questioning face.
“Yes. Ten minutes ago, when you saved me from getting a black eye.”, I answered him.
Does he not have short-term memory?
“I mean, have we met before if we take that from 10 minutes ago out of the picture?”, he asked again.
“No, I don't think so. I have only been in this town for about 2 days. It would have been hard for us to have met.”
He must be mistaking me for somebody else.
“Wait a minute”, he said. “Were you that guy who was out in the forest in the middle of the night alone?”
Wait a minute. Is he who I think he is?
“Yes, that was me. Did not really mean to be out in the middle of the night, but I had to get to the city.”, I answered.
“Cool dude. My name is Eros. What's yours?" he said while stretching his arm out for a handshake.
He seems like a nice guy, but Eros? Really? What a weird name
“My name is Jack. Nice to meet you.”, I said while shaking hands with him.
“So, you are joining the guild?”, he asked.
“Yes, just got my card just now actually.”, I said.
“That's cool. So are you already set up with a group, or are you just going to do the gathering quests?”, he questioned, with a weird look in his eyes.
“What do you mean by that?”, I asked.
“Did you not realize that there are requirements for most of the quests, and having a blank record, you won't get accepted to do anything other than gathering quest?”, he said the look in his eyes grew stronger.
“No, I did not realize that there are requirements for the quest. Do you know any groups that would accept a new adventurer like me?”, I asked.
“That depends on your class. Wait, that thing you did back when you were about to get killed by the wolf. Was that magic”, he asked. His eyes were now figuratively glowing.

“Yes, that was magic. I'm a newly awakened mage actually. That's actually the reason I joined The Adventuring Guild.”, I answered, my hope of joining a group strengthening.
“Cool. What's your talent?”, he asked, his eyes now actually glowing a little.
“I'm an Elementalist.”, I answered, a small smile on my face.
“The mage in my group actually just left. He got married and decided to just quit. Because of that, I am in need of a mage, for my group. Would you be willing to join?”, he asked, the glow in his eyes slowly dwindling into non-existence.
“Yes”, I answered him.
Find a group. Check
Next objective: Get rich
Eros´s group was not the biggest. There were five people in total, I included. There was Eros as the archer, a guy named Egil as the ax-man, a heavily muscled lady named Lozen as the mace-wielder, and a guy named Alex as the one with too many knives.
I was introduced into this group fast, and we got down to group formation in the relaxation area.
Eros and I would be support. I did not have that big of a mana reserve so I could not attack constantly. Eros needed time to fire with his bow.
Egil and Lozen would be Frontline attackers. Lozen would be the tank, and Egil would be the off-tank in emergency situations.
Alex would be on the sidelines. He needed to be very close to using the most of his knives, so he needed to not be noticed.
Now that group formation was decided, we had to decide which quest we had to do. Eros as the leader began the discussion.
“Jack, have you ever done stuff like this before?”, he asks.
“No. The only real fight I have been in was with the wolf.”, I answer while being slightly nervous.
Do you have to have done this before?
“Well then. Because of Jack not having tried this before, we should do a simpler quest today. Any suggestions?”, he asks out to the group, looking for feedback.
“What about just doing an extermination quest? It's easy, and there won't be any stronger beast we can't take care of. It would just be us getting used to the new group formation”, said Alex, while smiling at the girl taking care of the bar. He seemed to be one of the two playboys in this group.
How the hell is he paying attention to the conversation while flirting with a girl?! He must be the divine god of multi-tasking!
“That is a great suggestion Alex. Anyone who thinks that an extermination quest is a bad idea?”, asked Eros, with a smile.

Everybody shakes their heads, so we were good to continue. Now we just needed an extermination quest.
We found an extermination quest to exterminate a portion of the newly established wolf tribe. Its numbers had grown a lot these last few months, and their attacks had become more frequent. They have even started attacking people in the forest when they were alone. I knew that last one from experience.
We headed out.
We were walking in one of the trails leading to the main area the wolves resided. It was actually quite close to where I came from when I first came to this world. Weird.
There was actually not much to do while walking over there. There were not any mobile phones in this world so I could not use one to distract myself. I guess that's why people here are much more social than where I came from.
I also found out why I thought Eros looked weird. He wasn't human. Or at least not fully human.
“My mom was human, but my dad was a Moon Elf. That's why I became an adventurer actualized. Couldn't stop dreaming about seeing the world. A trait from my dad, I was told.”, he had said, with a smile on his face.
Maybe he will come with me on future adventures, I thought, with a smile on my face. It probably would be quite good.
We finally came to the area where the wolf decided. It was easy to get we were there because there was a small pack of wolves waiting for us.
Five in total. One for each of us.
Eros starts it off by firing an arrow that gets one of the wolves in the eye. Four to go.
Then everybody attacks.
The four wolves charge at Eros, but Lozen stopped them from getting close. The wolves would try to get Lozen down on the ground, but Egil would make a wide-swing with his ax making a wolf's whole head get torn apart. Three to go
I channel my magic and make an Earth strike hit the back wolf, disorienting it for a couple moments. In those couple moments, Alex had taken out eight knives, stuck one in each eyeball, one in each ear, and one in each leg. Two to go
I channel my magic again, and make a weak wind slash across a wolf's eyes, making it blind. I then make three earth strikes, in a row, to kill it by smashing its head to bits. One to go
The last one, seeing its friends had been murdered without a real fight, runs away as fast as it can. It doesn't get very far, though. Eros shoots one of its legs, and Lozen goes over to it, and smash its head in.
“Well”, says Eros. “That went well”
We all nod silently, making as minimal sound as we could. Wouldn't want the rest of them to run away.
We do this a couple more times, but we had to go back for two reasons. One, I had spent all of my mana reserves, so I would not be able to assist in the fight. Two, Alex had a date.
I did not know why Alex having a date was so important. He was one of the two playboys in the group, so he should have plenty of them. Weird.
We got back to the guild building to officially complete the quest. As I maybe would have to do this alone sometime, I was the one who had to go over and complete it.
I went over to the counter. There was the same lady there as before.
“Hi, I'm here to complete a quest.”, I said, with a failed attempt at a smile on my face.
“Certainly. What was the type of quest you went on?”, the lady asked.
“An extermination quest”, I answered.
“What were you supposed to exterminate?”, she asked.
“A portion of the new wolf tribe.”, I answered.
“Okay. Are you in a group where the leader is Eros?”, she asked.
“Yes.”, I answered.
“Good. Here is the quest reward. 5 gold. Remember to split it in the group.”, she said.
“I will remember that. Goodbye”, I said.
“Goodbye”, she said.
I went outside to where they were waiting. We split the money evenly with me getting 1 gold.
Get rich. Check
I wasn't really rich, but it was close enough.
They had invited me to go celebrate the success of my first quest, but I politely refused it and got back to the Inn.
I ate some dinner, which was a steak with some potatoes, and went up to my room. I cast a look at the books, but I wasn't in the mood.
Maybe tomorrow
I got over to the bed, emptied out my mana reserves, and went to bed.
Sucks that I can't sleep until it's late in the morning. I already have some plans.
MORE ADVENTURING, AND THIS TIME IT'S TO SLAY A BOSS.
