《Godly Otaku System: A Gamelit/Xianxia novel (Old Version)》Chapter 38: The Book of Thoth
Advertisement
As the battle between Myne and Lord Turnbull's lightning continued amidst the terrifying stormy weather, Will O'Dale stared at Zhen Shi in confusion and asked quizzically, "Weren't you suffering from constipation just now?"
Zhen Shi almost fainted sideways at his strange answer. He was confused for a moment at his nonsensical statement.
But looking around he immediately noted that while many people were looking at him, not a single one was staring at the Book in his hands. Instantly he realized that he was probably the only one who could see the book. And in the next instant, he realized how ridiculous he must've looked if everyone had just seen him straining in a great effort for no reason...
'Fuck! It definitely should've looked like a severe case of constipation.' But he couldn't focus too much on this embarrassment, especially since he needed to help Myne.
As such, he spoke out with thick skin, "Oh no... I think you misunderstood. That was a special technique-- to... find a way to help Myne! Yes, that's it," and finally made up a solution. Immediately, he ignored them and left them to their thoughts. He began to contemplate on how to open the Book of Thoth.
However, the majority of the crowd along with Vivienne didn't believe his words at all. His words were obviously made up on the spot, and Vivienne was confident that he had not used any type of 'special technique'. Nevertheless, she had faith in Zhen Shi and figured that he had his reasons for acting as he had, and so remained silent with a slight smile.
But while the majority didn't believe him, there were a few that did. Will O'Dale who had been 'saved' by Zhen Shi on multiple occasions had complete faith in his savior. Then the rest would be the audience of his 'divine music'. Initially, they had found it unbelievable that a divine musician of his caliber would do something appalling as trying to relieve himself of constipation in public. And now learning that it was a special technique, they had believed his words.
Either way, all of them completely forgot about this battle when the battle in the sky suddenly reached a new peak.
More and more pitch-black storm clouds gathered in the sky with the thrum of thunder and ominous flashes of lightning. As the lightning raged amidst the storm clouds, carnage ensued on the Island. The trees were writhing and flailing, their groans of pain carried away by the merciless gusts of wind. The wind screamed like a banshee, uprooting weeds and shrubs in a fit of ever-consuming rage.
But Myne was within the very center of this terrifying mass of lightning. His figure would disappear and appear with each flap of his cloak followed by the shadow of the hawk that continued to gobble up the lightning. Every time he moved, the cloak would flutter in the wind and reveal his bare skin riddled with popped veins and burnt marks reminiscent of the absorbed formation talismans...
At the same time, he was also directing a tornado of screeching shadow falcons to rip apart the defensive energy protecting Lord Turnbull. Despite the torrents of screeching hawks, Lord Turnbull was completely safe within the defensive energy of the formation. But, the fact that he was unable to defeat these troublesome 'juniors' even while using the legendary island formation was rather embarrassing. As such he roared with anger and tried to forcibly activate the next level of the formation.

Pu!
He coughed up some blood due to the back-lash and fell onto his knees.
Nevertheless, his bloodied mouth cracked into a grin, as the pitch-black storm clouds gathered together and reared up like a cobra readying itself for an attack. Instantly, it spat out an immense torrent of lightning at Myne who was preoccupied with defending against the mass of lightning strikes.
This was a very fast and sudden attack launched from point-blank range. Even so, Myne who was being empowered by the falconic magic should've been able to react to it easily. But, the size of the lightning torrent was simply too large, making it impossible for Myne to leave its range fast enough. As such, he would definitely be hit by the attack despite his superior speed.
Instantly realizing this Myne completely gave up on trying to dodge, and flicked his hand manifesting a lively green aether... But at the same time, the torrent of lightning seared through the sky like burning venom before crashing onto Myne's body.
Boom!
A small explosion rang out as Myne's aether in the falcon cloak fought desperately against the overwhelming lightning aether. Even though the amount of lightning was simply incomprehensible, the black aether continued to hold on...
The black aether seemed to hold an intrinsic eerie nature; that could absorb the lightning aether even without Myne's control. Nevertheless, the sheer volume of lightning was simply too much for the black aether to handle. As such-
Pu!
Myne coughed blood himself as he crashed onto the ground in a cloud of dust. The falcon cloak was in tatters and the black aether was on the verge of dissipation. The dust cleared revealing Myne's heavily wounded and burned body; which should have only been a step away from death.
Zhen Shi and Vivienne simply had had no time to react. That attack had been too sudden and too powerful. Nevertheless, they rushed towards the fallen Myne to make sure that he was okay. William followed their lead with only a moment's hesitation.
But even before they could get close and help, a strange lively green qi appeared and streaked to and fro over his wounds. And while they watched, the burns and wounds healed instantly under its miraculous effects. Zhen Shi who had been rather worried, relaxed when he realized that Myne would be fine. However, Vivienne continued to be concerned...
Myne wiped off some blood from his mouth and stood up slowly while holding on to Vivienne for support. Zhen Shi was rather intrigued about the nature of this healing magic which seemed to be even better than his own undying flame but remained silent. Then they all turned to Lord Turnbull and stared warily.
Unlike them, Lord Turnbull was in high spirits, despite having been wounded. Without the constant attack of the swarm of shadow hawks, the defensive energy from the Island formation covering him was now completely stable. His defense was still perfect, while the other party was injured.
As such, Lord Turnbull couldn't help but bask in his definite victory while preparing the finishing attack. And so while the storm raged on, another terrifying mass of lightning began to gather in the sky.
With his weakened body, Myne struggled to stay standing up. He turned to look at Vivienne and Zhen Shi while muttering, "That bastard forcibly activated the formation bringing out the strength of a pinnacle Grade 4 formation."
He heaved a sigh as he continued to speak while looking at Vivienne, "I didn't think we'd be forced this far so soon... How unfortunate to have to resort to this..." and raised his left hand positioning it to give a knife strike.

With a sharp qi slowly manifesting around his raised hand, he decisively stabbed his hand into his right shoulder.
Blood seeped into his shirt from his self-inflicted wound. Despite the pain that he should've been in, his face cracked up in an eerie grin. At the same time, his aura changed. As if a terrifying sleeping beast was being awoken...
His entire body began to radiate with powerful killing intent as he pulled back his hand from his shoulder. Flicking off the blood on his left hand he readied his right hand to do the same. All the while with his eerie grin growing even wider...
Zhen Shi, who had been unable to find a solution for the Book of Thoth, was appalled at the sight of Myne grinning after self-infliction of pain, 'What the hell? Was Myne hit so hard that his masochistic tendencies are acting up again?'
But Vivienne grabbed on to him and replied hurriedly, "No. Myne, you don't need to do this. I think Zhen Shi might have a solution..." She wasn't too sure of this. But seeing Myne going through this again... she couldn't help but say so.
Myne's killing intent and eerie grin lessened slightly as he turned to Zhen Shi expectantly and asked, "Bro, is this true?"
Zhen Shi was relieved as he realized that his initial conclusion had been incorrect and that Myne was only performing some sort of technique. But at the same time, he couldn't bring himself to tell Myne that he was helpless as well. As such, he racked his brain trying to figure out a solution for this matter.
Fortunately, he was suddenly reminded of a fact that he had overlooked.
If he remembered correctly, the Book of Thoth was an item that was not meant for the 'eyes' of mortals. Since he was a mortal... the fact that he was unable to open it made some sense. But at the same time, there were tales of how misfortune fell upon the mortals who read it. So why was he unable to open it...? Were things different here?
Either way, this meant that the only way to open the book would be to be a god. But that was impossible. However, while he couldn't complete this condition perfectly, he did have a solution to try!
And that was using his appraisal skill .
Zhen Shi had realized that every time he activated this skill, the nature of his eyes changed. And as mentioned in the name, he hoped that they were divine eyes with some influence from Odin's missing one. Therefore if he limited the skill to a single eye, there might be a chance of his eye becoming that of a god, ultimately allowing him to open the book.
After all, if one of his eyes were that of a god, the phrase 'not meant for mortal eyes' would be literally inapplicable for him!
As such, with new-found hope, he hurriedly activated the skill limiting it to his right eye only while staring at the Book in his hands.
Instantly, the pupil in his right eye shifted into a golden color. The appraisal label with the name [Book of Thoth] appeared instantly.
But nothing new happened and he was still unable to open the Book. Realizing that this was probably not sufficient, Zhen Shi focused his complete attention on exerting the skill on his eye. His qi began to drain at a rapid rate, and he continued to use the skill despite being faced with heavy tiredness and fatigue...
Even then, there were no new changes... So he decided to close his 'mortal' left eye for good measure as well.
With his mortal eye closed, the only eye being used would be non-mortal! And just as he did this, a familiar sound rang out followed by a familiar voice.
Ding!
Since the user has finally realized a solution, the seal on Divine Item: [Book of Thoth] will be lifted.
Zhen Shi felt like flipping a table in rage when he realized that it was the system that had made a fool of himself in public, 'Why the hell couldn't you just tell me? System, I get that you don't talk much, because you are shy... but this is just too much!'
System: ಥ_ಥ
Nevertheless, Zhen Shi consoled himself with the thought that the system had probably saved him from those curses that had plagued those other unlucky mortals.
Ding!
[Book of Thoth]: A Book written by Thoth a God of knowledge and writing, later enhanced with powerful magic used by God Heka. Current use:- Identification of any non-divine Magic with complete and detailed information. Usage only allowed during activation of the divine eye.
Zhen Shi's eyes glowed with excitement as he realized the capability of this item. But realizing that he had wasted enough time and that Myne was waiting for his answer, he hurriedly focused his divine right eye on the formation covering the Island and touched the Book of Thoth.
Immediately, the Book began to flip through pages by itself before stopping at a single page. Strangely enough, some of the words seemed to be in constant flux. Zhen Shi hurriedly read through the information, especially since the eye was leeching off a large amount of energy and he was slowly nearing his limit. But his eyes continued to widen in disbelief as he read through the information written here.

Zhen Shi couldn't help but grin as he read through the information. While Lord Turnbull continued to prepare the 'killing blow', he raised his head at Myne who was still waiting expectantly but rather confused as to why Zhen Shi was closing one of his eyes.
Disregarding Myne's confused look Zhen Shi spoke out confidently, "Of course I do! Who the hell do you think I am?"
