《Fly in Fantasy》The mother and her eggs.

The mother was one of the more stupid flies. Flies were pretty dumb to begin with, but her intelligence remained in the single digits. It was just enough to stare at the corpse of a dragon. Just enough to notice all the other fly mothers staying at safe distance.Just enough to see the remains of charred skeletons resting against the cave's wall.
But not intelligent enough to comprehend what inbued magic is.
The fly remembered how the dragon roared as he fought against the four crimsonhaired adventurers. One of them got singed, and in a flurry of attacks, the adventurers beat the dragon.Their pockets were full from all the treasures the dragon hoarded inside the cave. Too full to carry the dragon with them.
She snorted. 'The adventurers are dumb. I could take it on a dragon anytime. It's just too much of a bother. But... since they left me the corpse, I won't mind.'
The fly mother sat on top of the dragon's chest. A huge wound flared up, his quietus. Gingerly the fly neared the wound with small jumps. 'Oh, this corpse is quite big', she thought, still not knowing a thing about imbued magic.
She remained silent for a moment, then laid out a whopping 75 eggs. She had no more sperm inside her. She needs more sperm, but the other males rejected her.
After laying her eggs, she took a quick peek at her Status screen.

Her luck was insanely high. Probably to compensate for something, she thought
You gained +1 WIS, +2 INT
She couldn't read per se, but she still had the feeling someone was mocking her. She turned around. The other flies were still there, waiting for her.

She felt relieved. They still treated her as family. Maybe someone could give her some sperms?
With newfound intelligence, she noticed she was hungry, and did what any hungry fly would when near a corpse. She nibbled at one of the dragon scales. The wound was full of her eggs, so she couldn't taste the flesh.
What she didn't know was, that most of the dragon's energy is stored inside their scales. So when she nibbled on it...
You have been Burned (300).
Because of her meager health and CON, she instantly died to the burn. She turned around one last time. They flew away, one by one. She glanced at her eggs. 'At least they would survive.' She thought.
And for once she was right.

As such, they have a strong basis in the myths and folklore of various cultures and religions.
