《Death's Heir》Chapter 28 : Just The Basics

"Sir! Reporting in!"
Commander Zhou didn't know what the soldier was reporting about but he was already feeling a headache, all the soldiers under his command knew how bad his temper was so none of them would dare to disturb him without a good reason.
"Enter"
................
After walking for about fifty minutes Azreal finally came up to the alliance camp.
It wasn't heavily guarded there were a few soldiers on patrol outside the camp but nothing that you'd expect from a camp in the middle of a war.
But that didn't really matter much to him, if anything it made home quite happy.
Azreal wasn't really sure how he wanted to attack the camp but he knew he wanted to push himself as far as possible without dying, looking at the size of the camp there were probably a few thousand people and that was just a rough estimate based on his expectation.
From the bushes he was hiding in he could hear a few soldiers complaining.
"Why the hell did we have to get patrol duty today? While all the rookies get to stay in bed"
"Ugh let's just look around for a while then head back"
"Why even bother?"
A group of soldiers dressed in a brown military uniform with thick coats wrapped around themselves but they were still feeling cold.
They were approaching the area where Azreal was hiding.
Since his short training with Rhyno, he's been developing a bit of a six sense for gauging how strong people were and based of the feeling he was getting from these soldiers as well as the camp as a whole he wasn't worried about anything.
So as soon as the soldiers came close enough he walked out in front of them, at first because of the fact that they were still talking they didn't notice him but as soon as they did they all drew out their weapons.
"Identify yourself and purpose is coming here!"
"Speak up kid or this won't end pretty for you!"

Azreal brows crease because he didn't understand something, it was the same as when the man and woman had attacked them on the road but he wasn't sure so he didn't say anything, but this was the third time it was happening the other time was when he'd killed the bandits and he didn't believe that there was such a coincidence.
"Why aren't they using magic or anything like that? Why would they draw weapons?......Divine, God and True God that's what Maseru said but these people couldn't possibly be Divine Beings they're too weak, so are the demi's that Dustin mentioned before just normal humans?"
ignoring the soldiers in front of him, Azreal mumble to himself while frowning
This was something that had been bothering him for a while now but he hadn't asked about it because he thought that the first time was just because everything was happening too fast and the second time he didn't have much of an excuse for it, but now with this being the third he was sure that this was something normal but they couldn't be considered normal humans because the strength each of them possessed they could conquer an entire nation on earth or any other planet but here they were just meat shields.
Realizing that they were being ignored, the soldiers found it hard to suppress their rage.
"kid are you deaf?!"
"Why are you questioning him?. Let's just kill him and go back!"
When they were about to rush forward a soldier in the back began smiling before speaking.
"Not bad, if we kill him we can just take him back and say we saw some unidentified people that we couldn't handle but we managed to kill him, the commander would have send out a some stronger guys to search, all we have to do is make sure that the details are a bit ambitious so if this kid is alone and they don't find anyone they'll just think that then enemy escaped or went into hiding."

When the others soldiers heard that they could use Azreal as an excuse to go back to their warm beds they all became giddy and decided to kill him without a moment of hesitation but when they looked towards where he was standing there wasn't anyone standing there.
"Why'd he go!?"
"Everyone scatter and search!"
"We can't let this chance escape!"
Before anyone of them could get started on their search they all felt their bodies growing colder and colder followed by a splitting pain from their necks, blood spewed out like a fountain.
The bodies fell to ground while not too far away the five head rolled on the ground each of their eyes filled with confusion.
Azreal was standing about a meter away from them with the bloody sword in his hand, he didn't even bother looking at the bodies instead he looked to the sword to see if there were any changes.
One second..
Two seconds...
The changes that he wanted to see started happening the blood that was originally dripping off the blade stopped.
The runes on the blade started rotating and absorbing the blood that was on the sword after all the blood was absorbed the runes that were still rotating had a red glow to it.
About five greenish strands of mist, that didn't really look anything like a person except for the fact that they all seemed to have tiny faces filled with terror on them that were trying to talk but no sound came out.
When the runes had trapped the souls as well as the negative emotions the rotation slowed down a bit and lost it red glow but the aura that the sword gave off was slightly darker but this didn't really matter to Azreal nor did he focus on it for a second.
He just wanted to see what would happen when he released them.
''Come out!''
When the command was issued the rune rotation picked up speed and five illusory phantoms came out of the sword, they no longer looked human more like skeletons with barely any flesh on them. They were about half their former size surrounded by a thin black fog.
Everything the fog touched would start to rot slowly but something happened that he wasn't sure if it was just his eyes playing tricks on him, as the black fog caused more of the trees and grass to die he could've sworn that the five phantoms seemed to become less illusory becoming a bit more compact.
The change was practically unnoticeable, if Azreal wasn’t paying attention, he wouldn’t have noticed.
"So they can take the life of other things and strengthen themselves?"
Azreal was extremely happy when he thought of this.
'Do they have a limit?..’
Think about this he quickly took out the book and flipped the pages but to his surprise it didn’t mention anything about it.
‘Wait are these just the basic outline of the spell?'
It had become clear to Azreal now that the book so far had probably only had the basics of the spells and nothing more, so he'd probably have to discover everything else on his own.
Coming to that conclusion he only became happier because that would mean these spells that were already so powerful were only in their infancy! Who knew how much further they could grow.
The realize cause a bubbling sense of curiosity inside him, he couldn’t wait he wanted to see where he’d end up now.
Although he didn't know where Maseru was or held much ambition at the moment from his days on earth he'd already learned the importance of strength and self preservation.
Thinking of it like that he couldn't help but smile while walking towards the camp he wanted to see what else he could do with the spells and he already had a pretty good idea of something he wanted to try.
