Chapter 26: Memory Dive
Everything else shattered into a ball of light and my consciousness was escorted back to reality. My vision faltering to a certain degree. As my eyes strain around for details, I found myself standing on a small altar. My right hand pressed on this magic circle with the outward shape of a star.
“Meles?!”
I put a hand on my forehead as I wonder. It felt like I traveled for a few days inside a different body, Meles in particular. When she butchered those men, it passed through my senses as if it was me who’s done the killing.
“What else would you like to see, My Master?”
“……Huh?”
Even more confused, I look around me to search for the owner of this voice. Yet all I see is a wide space devoid of souls except for myself. It made me think if I’ve gone insane with all the things that just occurred.
I blew a sigh and scratched my head. Perhaps I need to check with Tersa regarding my sanity when we get home. Oh well, feeling somewhat depressed, I turn around and started to walk, yet that voice called out to me again.
“My Master!”
It was the delicious voice of a woman, so of course, I’ll turn around to face her. But alas, there was nothing over there except for the altar that I previously stood on.
“Who are you?! Show yourself!”
I feel like an idiot shouting that question in this empty space, but I had to, my guts told me to do it.
“Mufufufu, the moment I saw you, my Tyrant’s Eye revealed to me our destiny. Isn’t it so! Dark Flam—”
“AHHH!!”
I couldn’t help but cringe and scream, as if her words reminded me of unpleasant memories. Oh that’s right, this little “thing” hovering around me is the owner of that delicious voice.
“Prepare to taste the might of the Dark Flam—”
*Wa-chop!*
I chopped her head. I did it without thinking. Hearing the rest would blew my face in embarrassment. My instincts told me so.
“Hidoi! Master was the one who told MeiMei to introduce herself like that!”

The little creature complained while she rubbed her hands on top of her head. Just what is she? She looks like a human at most, but her miniature size belies that opinion. What’s more, she floats in the air without wings.
“You keep calling me Master, yet I’m pretty sure this is the first time we’ve met.”
“Indeed it is.”
This creature, who calls herself “MeiMei”, sat on my left shoulder and crossed her arms. She looks like she’s pouting. Her mouth curved upward—that makes her look silly by the way—clearly indicates that.
“So would you explain as to why you call me Master?”
“My apologies, but Master told MeiMei not to reveal to Master as to why MeiMei need to call Master My Master.”
She proudly said such complicated words, her long crimson hair fluttering around on my shoulder. But rather than clarifying some things, her weirdness just further complicated the matters in my head.
First, who is this Master that she speaks of?
Second, why would that Master prohibit her from speaking the truth?
Third, she’s saying that Master is me?
My head started to hurt. It made me want to lie down and forget about all of this nonsense. Good idea, I’ll just pretend I didn’t see or hear any of this. But this “little girl” would no doubt chase me if I just walk away.
While thinking about that, I decided to ask her one more question. A meaningful one.
“Then tell me, what is your purpose? Why are you sealed up here?”
She answered immediately. “MeiMei being sealed up in this small altar was not My Master’s choice. And as for MeiMei’s purpose……”
She stood up and floated to my eye level. A pair of golden eyes stare into mine, like she’s sucking me inside a vortex of time.
“It is to remind My Master that he’s……… or no, you are……still Human.”
I swallowed a big gulp. “What do you mean by that?”
She shook her head. “It’s futile to explain. It’s better if Master sees the truth behind his own eyes.” She offered me her hand accompanied with some tempting words. “Come My Master, I shall let you see the truth behind this world.”
-…………Don’t.-
-Tersa?-
-Don’t reach for that hand.-
Tersa’s voice was almost shaky inside me. This is definitely the first that she’s acted like this.

-I’ll explain in due time… It’s not the right time yet.-
-Okay??-
As abnormal as this sounds, but I trust her more than this little girl who claims to know me. Yes, because of these memories stuck in my brain, I’ve always thought that I’m somewhat special. Perhaps I’m stupid if I decline her offer. Perhaps I won’t get another chance like this. Nonetheless, I will follow what I believe is right.
“I’m sorry MeiMei, but I’m gonna have to pass on that offer.”
“I see.”
She retracted her arm while sending me a wistful glance. Damn, maybe I should’ve accepted it after all. Oh well, that can wait until I’ve conducted a proper conversation with Tersa later on.
“That aside, I do have another question for you.”
“As long as it doesn’t violate the contracts inside MeiMei, I shall answer whatever type of question My Master has in mind.”
“What are you?”
After hearing my question, she pressed and covered her small face with her hand, revealing a single golden eye.
“Mufufufu, I’m glad you asked… Devourer of Worlds, God of Destruction, those are just the many names that your kind has—”
*Wa-chop!-
I chopped her again.
“I’m not talking about that, dammit!”
“Muuu…”
She hovered to my cheek and pummeled my face with punches that doesn’t even tickle. Seeing this girl’s childness made me blew a sigh.
While I wondered if I should ignore her or not, she grabbed the tip my nose and gave me a quick kiss. Actually, it’s more on the lines of a peck.
I snorted and blew her away with a single gust of my nostrils, for the sole purpose of mocking her. Dealing with this little creature made me smile however, it’s still not enough to distract my thoughts away from what I’ve seen.
Just why did I suddenly saw Meles’ memories as if I was dreaming?
If it wasn’t her fault, then I can’t think of anything else.
“Please, I want to know.”
For what have been a few seconds at best, I waited until she regained her composure. I stare at her in silence, waiting for a proper answer this time. While brushing the dirt off her clothes, she opened her mouth to speak. Finally.
“I am what you call an “Anime Figure”, from the old world. MeiMei was but an unmoving doll, yet one day, MeiMei gained consciousness along with the ability, Memory Dive.”
“Memory Dive?”
“Indeed. But it’s not as simple as Master thinks. Only those whose life are about to get extinguished and only if they hold a considerable amount of importance to My Master, could Master only view their memories that will soon cause their deaths.”
I felt sweat blotting down my eyebrows. “Then… Meles will die?”
“That is a question MeiMei could not answer.”
I feel like I lost all of my energy just now. My legs and hands are shaking in fear. It makes sense. All of the actions that Meles took are screaming for her demise. Even her inner thoughts were saying the same thing. She wept in her sleep. She shouldered all of her problems by herself.
And I didn’t notice all of this? I fisted my hands to answer this anger that I’m feeling deep inside my heart.
“MeiMei, can their fates be change?”
“I believe that is the sole purpose why MeiMei was given consciousness.”
“Is that so? Hehehe… HAHAHAHAHA!!”
Good lord, laughing like this made me sound like a stereotypical villain.
“HAHAHAHAH!!”
“Fufu… MUFUFUFUFU!!”
MeiMei joined in the fun. The two of us relished our hearts out and laugh like an evil final boss. Although I do not know the full details as to why Meles wanted to return, as long as I know the source of all of these, that’s all that matters.
“Oh…”
I stopped and MeiMei followed. Before I sort out any other problems, I should sort out this problem child first.
“What do you plan to do now?” I spoke using the most gentle tone I could muster at the moment.
“Of course, MeiMei will be with Master from now on~”
This little creature came flying at me and hugged my face, sticky like a frog. I don’t hate it, but the softness of her body is kind of giving me a weird feeling. Although small, she does have a chest, and quite bountiful for her size too.
“Aaaaahn! MASTER!”
Even when I poke her tiny butt like this, she doesn’t seem to mind. Or so I thought, before she slapped me.
-Idiots.-
I can hear Tersa sighing inside me, but I also heard a faint laugh.
Yes, there is no need to doubt myself.
I will follow my own justice.

Hacking Reality (A teenage Mad Scientist's story.)
Maya Williams was smart. For the first time however, she realized she might be a little too smart. At least if the fact that a gang had kidnapped her was any indication. But that didn’t matter, because she’d show them. She’d show them all!!! Just as soon as the voices in her head could agree on how to get out of this mess. --- Please Note: This is a version of a forum quest I run following a teenage Mad Scientest with heroic tendencies in the same city/setting as my other stories the Huntsman's Quest and Get Ink'd. Meaning that while a majority of the plot is made up by me, the major choices as well as what each chapter is about are usually made by the actual readers in forum votes. Additionally, given how this is essentially a story version of a Tabletop game there is also a background RPG system that while the characters aren't necessarily aware of, the readers can see these stats to know how each chosen 'Action' effects their character's development.
