《Is there a day after tomorrow》Ch 2 Just in case

After a brief moment Richard could see his destination unfolding in front of his eyes.
Relieved that nothing else had happened and seeing the people carrying on with their normal lives as usual, he took in the peacefulness of the scene with open arms.
Hotel Montserrat was just as he remembered from before the booze cruise, no living dead swarming anywhere, the forefront slightly rugged as the actual mountain Montserrat with some of the paint scraped off by time.
Three star hotels were the go-to for Richard as they provided a comfortable place to sleep for relatively inexpensive sums without being a total crap hole.
He walked towards the hotel entrance wondering where to get food and water just in case shit was about to go down, spotted local super mercat (small shop) and headed inside for supplies in great strides.
The super mercat shopkeeper saw Richard entering and nodded towards him and he did the same for him while figuring out food supplies with long expiration dates.
Richard grabbed a shopping basket and started to shove cup ramen, chocolates and other high calorie foodstuffs inside the basket as the shopkeeper wondered where a man could need such a large amount of candies and food.
While finishing the shopping spree, Richard picked up a few 8 liters canisters of water and headed towards the counter.
The shopkeeper couldn't help but ask in curiosity what he was buying so much.
Richard obviously couldn't say that he saw scary shit today with the message of team godly included in the equation as people could easily think he has gone insane.
It is not uncommon for people to start seeing and hearing strange things after some emotional trauma, as people have different coping mechanisms to tragedy.
Contemplating what he would say to the curious shopkeeper, he answered the question with a probe of his own.

''It has been a rough day, I can tell you that much. Anything recommended for massive hangover?''
The shopkeeper chuckled and started to tell his own hangover cures of which Richard did know most of them.
Richard played it cool and did not ask anything related to the previous incidents, but probed slightly if he was the only one hearing the strange androgynous voice.
''Yeah alcohol and me are not a good combo, I even heard strange voice earlier today about games but that was just some hangover hallucination.''
''I too heard something strange today. I was totally convinced that I just need to rest from being overworked.''
''What did you hear from the voice'' Asked Richard in serious manner to which the shopkeeper answered
''Only that some game started and I saw some sort of status of myself.''
''So I was not the only one, huh?''
Few seconds passed by in silence and then Richard pulled out his wallet and told the shopkeeper he was paying by card, to which the shopkeeper just silently pulled the card reading machine while lost in his own thoughts.
After paying the groceries Richard started to haul his supplies towards his hotel, checked in and went to his room.
Richard stacked the supplies on the ground and slumped on the bed staring emptily towards the ceiling.
As he stared at the ceiling, the earlier episode from today came to his mind and when he remembered the gore he witnessed the nauseating feeling started to well up towards his throat and quickly he felt like vomiting again.
Few minutes passed as he was kneeling in front of the toilet bowl trying to vomit, but with nothing coming out of his empty stomach.
He stood up, walked towards the hand basin and leaned on the basin with both arms while looking up towards the mirror.

What was reflected back was a slightly unkempt 31 years old, slightly muscular, 1.84 m tall Finnish/American man. The normal eyes that were always blue were now bloodshot with nausea and hangover, stared emptily at the visage before him feeling lost.
Unkempt, slightly scruffy beard, some belly fat and somehow you could see self hate reflecting from his entire being at the moment.
Richard was still staring at the mirror in daze and decided to shower off the hangover cold sweat off, wash his black, half long hair and go get a few canisters of water and supplies afterwards just in case.
Few hours later Richard had attracted odd gazes from hotel employees and guests while dragging the water and food to his hotel room, but he couldn't care less about strangers.
If something happened, he would not starve at least.
The evening went on uneventfully and as the night came and Richard wondered why there had not been any news about the earlier bus crash or anything related to strange happenings of the day he started to focus on the status screen he could call up in his mind.
As he tried out multiple things and played what he could do in the status screen he wanted the explanation of the stats he had and got the following.
Main Attributes
Strength - physical damage, Carry weight, overall strength
Agility - movement speed, reaction time, attack speed
Vitality - toughness(1 vita=10HP), regeneration and recovery time
Stamina – Endurance, stamina regen, recovery from attacks
Intelligence - Magical damage, mana points (1 Int 5MP), faster brain function
Spirit - mental fortitude, MP regeneration
Secondary Attributes
Luck – Increased luck, fortunate things happen more often
Charm – Affinity towards some lifeforms increase, may get discounts
No other attributed unlocked
''Huh... ? If this status board is correct there is a chance that magic exists?''
While pondering the significance of the stats and how to utilize them he couldn't help but wonder what it is like to cast magic.
''I believe in science and believe that shit is true when I can personally do it, I won't be convinced by any of that hoccus poccus sleight of hand bull crap.'' Richard could not help but state his belief in science out loud.
Stopping his train of thought he decided to ponder on it later and now it was time for him to hang his brains on autopilot mode. Richard jumped on the comfy double size bed, turned on the TV hanging on the wall and watched the late night shows in his undergarments until he felt drowsy.
''I wish I had not come here.'' he muttered in a low voice and began to wonder why he did book the first tickets abroad.
''It's all her fault, fucking bitch of an (ex) fiancé...''
A while passed cursing his former lover and after that Richard cursed himself for a moment for being inadequate...he fell finally asleep not knowing what lies ahead.

Grim Beginnings
For most, ghosts and monsters were fantasy. For Tessa Byrne-Reyes, they were a constant in her daily life as a reaper. The legendary gods and creatures of mythology were, to her, historical figures. From a young age, she carried the weight of the world on her shoulders, possessing what she saw as a curse but what her family considered a gift. It was her birthright, to use her abilities to guide the deceased to the afterlife of an eternity in peace or in torment. Her classmates viewed her as "the fainting girl" who would pass out in the middle of a lesson with inexplicable injuries. She experienced each death in the town of Belmont Falls, from the mundane to the gruesome. A gunshot wound in the gut, broken ribs, her heart ceasing to beat for several minutes. No one understood what caused these incidents but over the years, she gained a reputation for being abnormal. While Tessa is the freak of Belmont Falls, Fin Belmont, the charming rebel and son of the richest man in town, is her polar opposite. Knowing each other for years but never saying more than a dozen words between them, one night changes everything, thrusting them into each other's unfamiliar and daunting worlds. Together, with the help of her best friend/his ex-girlfriend Elena, they begin to unravel secrets about their town and their pasts, learning that some secrets are better left buried and grudges can be held for centuries.

The Orb Weaver Chronicles
"The Orb Weaver Chronicles contains several major and unique events that may or may not unknowingly intertwines with one another. The author of these chronicles is unknown, although some have hinted at the symbolism behind its name..." - Year unknown, location unknown 9 February 2022 Update: Welcome to the companion short story compilation of my novel trilogy The Shadow Paradigm. This compilation features prequels, sidequels and sequels to the novel's major plotline, as well as featuring a wide range of characters, new and recurring. Prior knowledge of the novel is not necessary as the Orb Weaver Chronicles' short stories are standalone. Once called The Arkesyyan Chronicles, I've deleted quite a few of its old stories. Due to the new avenue and revision, oriented toward more mystery and film-noir ambience, that I took my stories into, I've removed all aliens and overly sci-fi aspects of the whole TSP lineup, so I've updated the Orb Weaver Chronicles accordingly. I hope you enjoy them, and in time, a revised version will also be updated.
