《Into the void》Chapter 59: Redesign

Finding the other two wasn't the problem. With the rune I had placed within Arnaud, it would be all too easy to track him down. And if he was there, then I was confident that Alexis wouldn't be far off. It only made sense that they would hang to each other.
I could find them, but I didn't, and I wouldn't. At least for now. If it is possible to give yourself more time to accomplish an objective, that time should be taken. Personally, there have rarely ever been situations where having more time to complete a goal has been a bad thing.
There was no need to rush the Organization to their locations just yet. They had made me the "expert' on this case. The pace of it was determined by me.
It hadn't been said out loud, but it was clear to see.
They took this invasion threat seriously and would therefore be deferring to me to help uncover it. I couldn't waste time, but things moved at my pace.
After I met with my new supervisor/commander, who clearly needed a break, I was escorted to my new room. It wasn't much, but it was livable. The bed was comfy enough, and the room was spacious enough to not feel like a cell. Which it was.
The veritable legion of guards stationed outside made it hard to think otherwise.
The rest of my time after that had been spent completing and streamlining the plan. The files that had been delivered to Scylus proved that things were moving ahead fine so far.
They didn't suspect anything just yet, but I was wary of the information on it.
It would be incredibly stupid of them to handle sensitive information next to a being that doesn't require a head to see. They hadn't given me too much reason for me to believe that.
I wasn't too worried about them just yet, but one could never be too cautious.
The rest of my time in the room had been spent meditating while waiting for them to retrieve me. It was only by midday of the next day that the same guard that escorted me came back to pick me up. After a quick shower and food, I was taken to the witness room.
The security of the entire facility had been upped. Weapons with the walls were active, and all personel were wearing high-tech combat armor.

Given that they had this available to them, I was curious how they hadn't captured Arnaud. The weakening of this universe should have made him weak enough to be captured.
The thought lingered through my mind until I arrived at the room. The door of the room was marked SG0481-02-01 in bold white lettering.
Scylus stood outside waiting for me. Once he saw me, without so much as a greeting, he started barking orders.
"You are to go inside the meeting room and acquire as much information as possible. The witness inside is the fiancee of 02, otherwise known as Arnaud Numenstraz. While we suspect that the endeavor is futile, it will be done regardless. This task falls under the SG0481 case and is therefore available to you for review. Is that clear?"
"Yes."
"The target is called Anne Repaue. Middle-aged, with no criminal record. She is currently with a child. She works a desk job and volunteers part-time at a church. She is religious and has a history of being taken advantage of. Do with that information as you want. " He finally looked up from a paper that contained all her data.
Much of that information wasn't all that useful, but I guessed it was just procedure.
"Once we're done here, we will re-investigate the house of the second anomaly of your cluster." As he spoke, I couldn't help but notice his absolute calm, whereas yesterday he had been a jittery mess, now he seemed to be an entirely different person.
"What happens to her once this is over?" I asked.
"Her mind and life will be wiped of all traces of 02 so that she may return to having a regular life."
"She isn't the only person that is aware of his existence. What if someone asks about him?"
He lightly shrugged at the question. "They won't."
"And the child?"
It will be aborted. Now, are you done asking questions?"
"Yep, at least for now."
"Good, you will be working with Anamoly 01 from the SG0241 case. His name is Falfae, and he will be there to aid in your endeavors."
There it was, the active supervision. "And where is my babysitter?"
"He is already inside."
"Well, then I'm ready to go."
He simply nodded before moving aside. Left unspoken by him was that if I fucked up in any way or was seen as a threat, then I would be filled with more bullets than flesh.

As I stepped into the room, I made sure that I had my head attached. She would definitely not be used to headless men walking around.
The witness was an older lady, probably in her 30 or 40's. She looked to be of Swiss descent. She had blue eyes and blond hair, and from the looks on her face, she was absolutely exhausted.
She didn't look malnourished, but I guessed that they probably kept her in here with as little information as possible. As I walked in her, eyes snapped to me.
The confusion and fear were clear to see, and above all, the silent plea for help was deafening.
I looked away from her and looked around the room. I hadn't been able to see inside the room from outside. Whatever this was made of blocked my vision in its entirety.
Her room had a table obviously meant for interacting with her, but it also had a bed and a large cubicle that was probably the bathroom. There was nothing else in the cell.
There wasn't a sign of this Falfae guy. Invisibility perhaps?
I ceased my search and took a seat at the table in the middle of the room.
I waited for her to come and sit of her own violation. This woman would not likely have any information. All this was just in case I was somehow connected to her.
I waited for over thirty minutes before she finally decided to sit at the table. She began to speak, but I was unable to comprehend her words. She was speaking german.
"I don't understand what you're saying."
"Oh, sorry. I didn't realize you spoke french." For a woman being held in captivity, she was surprisingly polite.
"I think you know why I'm here. If you have anything you want to say to me, please say it. We are here to figure out a dangerous situation." As I spoke, I used [The Great Pretender] to subtly increase her susceptibility to my words.
There wasn't any information I would get, but if they saw me getting results, then I could be given more leeway to act. It would build trust; after all, if I was lying, why would I try so hard to solve this case?
"I don't know anything about what you want. My fiancee just got stabbed and managed to survive. I'm sure that you're mistaken about whatever crime he's done." Her voice shook as she spoke. The exhaustion and desperation quaked in her voice.
"That's okay." I said in a soothing voice as I put more and more pressure on my title.
"All I need is for you to tell me if anything strange has been happening with your husband lately. With all the things that have happened to him, it must have caused changes."
She looked indecisive. My power was creeping in, just a little bit more.
"I promise that I'll try and help your fiancee as much as I possibly can." With that, whatever mental barriers had existed in her mind collapsed.
The Combination of stress, lack of sleep allowed me to easily influence her. It wasn't mind control. It just made her trust me a little bit more.
"Well, lately, he's been acting quite strange. He wakes up screaming at night."
I nodded my head sympathetically as she spoke. "Is there anything else that happened? Maybe something you dismissed as not being possible?"
"Well..." She hesitated once again before looking at me.
"You promise?"
"I will give it my all."
"Well, once when he was screaming in bed...this...this mark appeared on his forehead. I just thought that it was a new type of tattoo that can appear and disappear, but I've never seen it before. Arnaud is not the type of man to have tattoos, so that's a bit strange." She bit her lip as she thought more.
"He did seem a lot jumpier lately, and he seemed paranoid, but that's just because of everything that's happened to him. I think his incident reignited his PTSD."
"That's probably true," I said.
I let her ramble some more, but all the information was acquired. She didn't realize how much information she had just given. I could use this.
Looks like I would have to redesign those marks.

To Blunt The Sharpest Claw
The Velvet Paw of Asquith Novels are a series of New Fable genre novels that involve cats and dogs and high adventure and romance and espionage and food-fights and hotels and explosions and car chases. With large casts, exotic locations and an absurdity only possible in the absence of human characters, the Velvet Paw of Asquith Novels blend Wind in the Willows with James Bond, though with more cafes and fewer badgers. This submission is the third title in its Morigan Trilogy, beginning two-thirds of the way through the series' longest adventure yet. Here's a quick recount of what's happened so far: When Oscar Teabag-Dooven, a Velvet Paw of Asquith, is ordered to investigate how a mysterious poet, the Ar'dath-Irr, is able to travel instantaneously around the world, two very bad things happen. Firstly, he meets Lydia, an insane librarian who punches everyone in the face, and secondly, the Ar'dath-Irr reveals he is intent on taking over the world. Although this second thing might be considered worse than the first, Oscar feels differently following Lydia’s destruction of a cafe, a library and his face in one afternoon. In comparison, thwarting world domination just seems easier. Along with Binklemitre, a fellow Velvet Paw of Asquith, and Lydia, Oscar infiltrates the Ar’dath-Irr’s realm of dark poetry to discover the dog not only intends wrenching the world apart but has no intention of cleaning up afterwards. As a result, Oscar decides it’s all too hard and goes home to have a bath. After lots of arguing and the sort of food fight that posh restaurants were invented for, Lydia and Binklemitre convince him that they must stop the Ar’dath-Irr for several reasons, one of them quite serious. A vibrant cast of characters collide as Oscar, Lydia and Binklemitre battle the Ar’dath-Irr and his disciples in an adventure involving exploding cafés and appalling hotels, car chases and inadvertent surgery, dreadful poetry, lots of arguments and at least one temper-tantrum, all of which draw the three into dark and convoluted corners of a world they weren’t aware existed. Moreover, any chance of sitting down and discussing things over some buns disappears when Lydia punches the Ar’dath-Irr in the face. This results in her having a psychotic episode and Oscar getting run over by an ambulance. Although Binklemitre suffers neither, he witnesses both, which is almost as dreadful, though not nearly so messy. An enormous battle ensues, followed by a dinner party and then everything explodes.
