《Into the void》Chapter 6: Immorally Moral

Personally, I think that we humans are rather unusual creatures. I honestly believe that assertion, we've achieved a lot and survived a lot. However, our existence as the sole champion on earth, as the ruling monarch has made us arrogant.

That arrogance has manifested in our inability to stop sucking our own dicks. Figuratively speaking of course. No, I'm not going to break up into a long monologue but the trope of humanity surviving against all odds is one that grates my nerves. You shouldn't be able to destroy an interdimensional god because .... "deep breaths deep breaths."

It just wasn't a trope I liked.

Now I had the opportunity to put that hypothesis to the test. Despite that not being a major reason why I would add humans, it would provide the answers I was most excited to know. Was humanity as resilient as were made out to be or were our heads stuck too deeply up our asses?

Unfortunately, I couldn't do that right now as I needed humanity to survive. After all, that was how I planned to learn to use these energies and grow more powerful.

However, once they serve their purpose, they would be ... they would be what? I did not like the way my thoughts were going but humanity would not be babied once they serve their purpose. That doesn't sound any better than what I was going for originally, but hey it is what it is.

I had reduced the time rate between the two universes to two day per one day, so it was nearly equivalent. Watching that whole process had been immensely fascinating and honestly really eye opening. As a child I loved nature documentaries, but you know as you grow older you can't watch them as you used to. There are always things to do and you kind of started to see how messed up the animal kingdom actually is. Though the latter was never a problem for me.

Observing that had felt like watching the most magnificent nature documentary ever. There had been so many details that I hadn't expected to see, yet somehow, they were now stuck in my head. Everything, I remembered everything so clearly.

I love my powers.

It hadn't really sunk in you know, I just kind of jumped in and expected all this to be fake. I expected my mind to be making this up, I thought I'd gone crazy. Now that I know I'm not crazy you can't imagine how much this means to me; you don't understand what it's like...

Look at me I'm talking to myself again, ah whatever.

My plan for humans had been finalized yesterday. Now I was ready to carry them out. I ordered a taxi over, which according to the driver would be here in around 40 minutes.

I would be dressing in all black, out of respect. What I was going to do was not the most morally acceptable of things, but I needed this.

My plan was really quite simple, I was going to go to the morgue. I needed souls and I couldn't take it from living people. At least that's what the ball told me; no additional information had been added to my brain on this particular subject. I was hoping that it was as simple as it was made out to be. If for some reason I couldn't take souls from the morgue I planned to go to the hospital and take them from there. I didn't want to, but I wasn't particularly squeamish.

I managed to take a quick shower and had a pleasant breakfast of omelets and pancakes before the taxi arrived 30 minutes later.

I greeted the driver as he pulled up and entered before telling him to go to the supermarket. I was going to get some Flowers.

If you're going to desecrate someone's grave at least bring some Flowers. It probably made no difference whatsoever since I would be taking their souls, but this honestly wasn't for them it was more for me. I just wasn't comfortable with taking and not giving back. It wasn't an exchange of equal value, but they would have a life again once I was done with their soul. That would technically be three lives, so everybody wins.

The requirement for using their soul was that they would be brought back while keeping a small part of their powers. If I was in their situation, I wouldn't hate that deal at all. At least I don't think I would. Though some might disagree with me, people are different after all.

At the store, I got some nice roses, a couple of tulips and some other exotic flowers that I didn't know the name of. Also got a couple snacks since I was feeling a bit peckish by the time we got to the store. Right after that, I asked to be taken to the morgue.

Not knowing fully how this power worked made me slightly anxious, though the excitement was undeniable as well. It was a chance to learn and explore another avenue of my power. If I could take souls and transfer them, what other things could be done with them. Batteries and artificial soul creation were some of the few things that popped up in my mind.

According to what I was given low universes didn't have an afterlife, these guys were stuck in this reality. All that potential was just floating off into the universe unused. They could definitely be put to better use.

As we arrived at the morgue the sun shone brightly, the air was a bit chilly, but the heat of the sun made it a nice contrast. The grass was green, and the leaves were blooming, it was spring. The driver thought I was here to pay my respects, so he solemnly nodded to me as I walked out probably as a sign of respect. Not that it was necessary, but I appreciated the gesture at least. Walking into the morgue I feel the excitement continuously rise up. I could barely keep a grin from breaking out unto my lips.

Now if I remember correctly the deal was that I could take the souls of those that were recently deceased. What qualified as recently was something I didn't know but I was here to test that out. A couple days ago before I arrived a family had unfortunately been caught in a car accident.

Since it was such a small town the tragedy had been major news and a lot of the townsfolk had attended their funeral. When I arrived the very next day the news of their death was still on the newspapers and so was where they were buried. This family would be my first test on how far recently extended since they had died just 4 days ago.

It took me about 30 minutes of looking to find their names, they had surprisingly been buried at the back of the morgue. Yet, there was no mistaking it Alexis and James Franciose along with their kids Marco and Paulina were buried here.

A happy little family.

First, I put the flowers on their graves next to the others that were already rotting. Then I went into a meditative pose on a gravestone across them and focused on finding their souls. The process was not fast at all, for the first 15 minutes I felt nothing. It was only after another 15 minutes that I started to feel the energy in the air and only 30 minutes later that I decided to open my eyes.

My eyes were greeted by the sunlight and various floating mist-like substances ranging from black to blue. They were beautiful to look at and they seemed to be trails of some sort, but no souls were present. Rather these things seemed like they marked the areas that souls had been. Plus, the various brightness of the trails led me to believe they represented how long ago the souls had been there.

All of the colors were faded out with some on the verge of disappearing. There were four recent-looking trails, but they seemed to be fading out slowly, I arrived just a little too late. I was a bit frustrated by this but not entirely, now I knew more about my powers.

Me being able to see what I assumed were trails would help me to track souls before they were no longer in my soon deceased timeframe.

Though the specifics of that timeframe were still unknown.

Now, however, was time for the hospital. This was a bit more of a gamble since people don't necessarily die every day at hospitals. Especially in a town like this, I doubted that death happened too often, so I paid the driver a little extra to drive me to the city of Geneva.

He'd waited for me since I'd asked for basically what amounted to a personal driver over the phone.

As I rode into Geneva, I admired the cleanliness and the old European aesthetic. It was a beautiful city with a more laid-back atmosphere when compared to New York. It was rich in history and rich in reputation and its role in my life was second only to the big apple. Geneva taught me to love silence, to love art and history, to love reading, and to love the finer things in life. So, driving to the city to grab some souls felt a bit macabre even for me.

The taxi driver dropped me off at a hotel, I would be staying in Geneva for the night. I opted to take another taxi to the hospital, I didn't want to have one driver drive me from a morgue to a hospital. I probably wouldn't be suspected of anything, but a little bit of caution never hurt anyone. When I arrived at the hospital, I sat outside on a bench for 50 minutes simply meditating and focusing on the energy before walking into the hospital. By that time that the sun had started its descent.

I was greeted by searing white lights and a sterile white hall. Nurses and patients were walking and running around, all going about their day. Yet it was still somehow quiet and somber. Though that made sense since for a lot of these people, the reaper was waiting outside. To my newly acquired soul site, the hospital was an array of blacks and blues, the perfect place for me.

I wasn't going to take a soul in the hospital that just made no sense they were very restrictive and very attentive to unwanted visitors and I wasn't trying to get into problems with the law. Rather I found two rails that looked fresh and tracked them to the outside of the hospital, out at the back. In front of me, I found two souls that seemed to be talking to each other under a tree. Their eyes looked a bit vacant, there seemed to be a sort of horror in them.

I imagine dying and realizing that there's nothing else after, not even the quiet peace of eternal oblivion would do that. Not to worry though, they would get to live again. The first soul was that of an aged man he looked to be in his 40s and he was of a dark blue color. His hands looked frail and he looked extremely tired.

The other soul was that of a young woman and she was a lighter shade of blue. She looked to be in her mid-20s and looked rather healthy, surprising since she just died. While they both held that horrified look in their eyes, she seemed to be a bit better composed than the man, he just looked just like he'd given up.

Quickly I checked the surroundings to see that there were no other souls or people. Then I walked up to both of them, they turned in my direction as they saw me approaching.

As I arrived under the tree, I grabbed both of them. They had looks of shock on their faces as they realized I could interact with them. That shock quickly turned to horror as I willed them to appear in the fulcrum.

This was a bit of a different process than what I was used to. It was a battle of wills; they knew something was happening and they resisted as much as they could.

I could feel them fighting back but it was useless the more they fought the more be painful it was for them. They screamed, shouted and even try to hit me but all to no avail. That pain finally reached a point where it was too much for them to fight through it, at which point they were launched into the fulcrum.

Appearing high above them in the fulcrum I watched as they stumbled onto the ground of the island and were smothered in fog.

Soon after I could hear them calling each other’s names, the terror obvious in their voice.

I love my fucking powers.
