《J`nk: Refuse Refuge》Chapter 20 - That's Not How Things Work!

The material covering Hanshi’s stomach was stretched and then split. The point of a great sword suddenly pierced through Hanshi’s stomach. Her eyes went wide and her hands instinctively reached for the blade. Jason went instantly from relaxed yelling at her to tensed back into prepared to fight. It was possible that he could still save her he thought which was the only thing that prevented him from running as fast as he could away from this situation. His feet shot him forward and he reached out to pull her free from the sword before the Goblin could cut through her, doing ever more damage.
To Jason’s surprise Hanshi stepped forward off the blade and turned to face her attacker angrily, “What the fuck?!”
She grabbed the great sword and pulled it out of the hands of the Goblin, tossing it away. She threw it so hard that it pierced a nearby tree and was fixed in place. The Goblin attempted to back away, but found that there was no where for him to run away to. She grabbed the creature by the neck, her hand fitting easily around it, and she squeezed. The force of her grip would have been enough to make the Goblin’s eye’s bulge and for all anyone knew they did slightly, but this was before her hand crushed and ripped through its neck. Its body fell to the ground and Hanshi turned away from the group of Goblins to throw the Goblin’s head into the air in a perfect arc for her to punt it beyond their visual range. A mist of blood lingered in the air where her foot made contact with its head briefly, but after a moment it faded away.
All who were present didn’t know what to make of this. They had just witnesses an incredibly beautiful amazon giantess rip a head off of a living being and kick it into oblivion. There was no reaction that seemed appropriate nor did any of them feel comfortable to take any course of action. The Goblins chattered to themselves, pushing backward as they tried to decide what to do. The one behind them who hadn’t seen what happened were still pressing forward trying to capture Jason. He too was left stunned. He was thankful that she was ok, but how could he feel safe around her now. The realization that he could have ended up like that Goblin a short time ago. He shuttered at the thought. He was also baffled as to the fact that she was ran through, but seemed to be perfectly alright.
“Boy?” Hanshi queried him.
“Yes?” he responded without thinking.
“What the fuck are those things?
“Uhhh...You don’t know?”
“I’ve never seen those things in my life!”
“Then how would I know?”
“Aren’t they from your world?”
“We don’t have anything like that on Earth unless you count our fantasy novels. They look like some variation of a Goblin from fantasy and mythology,” Jason explained as it dawned on him that whatever they were, they weren’t normal for this world, not in their appearance or their ability to cross between the border from dungeon to the outside world.

“Novels? Your culture produces stories in a tangible form?” she looked like she was surprised, as if that wasn’t at all common in the universe that she knew.
“Uhhh.. yeah. Why?” he wondered what she was getting at.
By the time that they had gotten this far in their dialog the Goblins had come to a decision. They couldn’t go back. Attacking individually was suicide, but attacking and hoping their fellow comrades would attack they may be able to get themselves a good meal, or perhaps some loot. They all came to this decision at roughly the same time and a swarm of Goblins rushed at Jason and Hanshi ending their conversation prematurely. Jason had seen the first of the horde now rushing towards him. It was in the air and it took very little effort for him to unsheath and thrust through it. It was unlike the previous Goblins he fought. It didn’t have armor, weapons, nor did it look particularly insane. He had simply and easily dispatched it, but he doubted that the wave of green monsters would be as easy to deal with despite most of them being of similar states of readiness for combat.
Several Goblins jumped on Hanshi, biting at her and attempting to pull her down to the ground. With every passing moment more jumped on top of her and forced her down. Jason’s situation was no better as a many of them swarmed after him. He could do nothing to help her, only only able to fend off the torrent of gnashing teeth and razor sharp claws. He defended and dismembered them as fought back against the attacks. He was pushed back away from the mine entrance and Hanshi the more he fought. He had killed or severely disabled at least a dozen within moments. He saw no reaction from the pile of Goblins that had formed over Hanshi.
The ground around the pile lit up and in an instant a metal ring of shot out upwards slicing through the bodies of the Goblins on the outer edges. Then the ring seemed to then come together towards it center cutting many more and then vanished. This was followed up by an explosion of Goblin bodies being violently ejected away from its central mass that was Hanshi. From out of this chaos Hanshi stood up and dusted herself off. Her clothes were scuffed. Her hair was messed up. Anywhere that there appeared to be open flesh had a bite mark. A bang fell over her eye messily. She puffed, blowing the tresses out of face. “I’m going to kill them,” she said under her breath shortly before her fists began to glow in an orangish color.
Hanshi’s fist lit on fire and she explosively charged at the Goblin hordes. Each of her attacks that she made landed on a Goblin, lighting it on fire. Screeches rang out and the Goblin masses attempted to retreat away from the psychotic beauty. When she came for them, they tried to dodge, but no matter how fast they were another one of their numbers fell to the ground wailing in unimaginable pain as their nerves were melted in the flames. Those she caught suffered an even more grim fate. The body part that she was able to grab hold of’s skin was melted and pulled away, skinning them into a gooey mass before crushing their bones and ripping them limb to limb. One would think that this would take quite a while to do, but it was like she was a machine and performed the requisite action over and over again, taking only seconds to murder each of the creatures.

Jason was backed into a tree, but he felt confident that he could handle these dozen or so Goblins that were attacking him rather than going after Hanshi. It seemed that he hadn’t taken any damage from any of the attacks that came his way. One of his attackers picked up a large rock that looked much bigger than it was due to the relative size of the rock to the Goblin’s height. It chucked the rock at Jason. He rolled around the tree to avoid being hit. One snuck up behind him and using a dagger it stabbed at his calve. It had no effect save for the blunt for impact. Jason grimaced, shifted his weight, and kicked the in the head sending it flying into another tree. The Goblin’s had cracked against the trees. It’s body fell to the ground leaving a streak of blood on the trunk.
The other Goblins around Jason surrounded him. He tried thrusting his sword at them, but they were too fast and dodged him. Two jumped toward trees and used them as springboards to launch themselves at Jason. They slashed at him with their claws, but he moved back letting them collide with each other. This would have gone perfectly, but he tripped over one behind him and fell to the ground. Quickly the Goblins pinned him using their weight to keep him from moving, but that wasn’t all. Each of the little monsters started to gnaw on him attempted to break through the ARMS body material. Some of them bit at his neck, face, and hands where he was unprotected. Chunks of him were being torn out of him with very little he could do to stop it, but his struggles did keep them from getting any large chunks. One latched onto the top of his head and began to bit down on it. As this went on he began to feel blood from punctures in his scalp around his cranium trickle down over his face.
Eventually, one of the Goblins saw his dagger at his waist. The Goblin grabbed it and jumped up on Jason’s stomach, straddling him. It raised the blade above its head and brought it down fiercely, using all of its strength after it had seen what happened to another of his kind. This time the dagger stabbed into Jason’s chest. Seeing that it was successful the Goblin twist the dagger before pulling it out of him. This was a but a minor reprieve as the Goblin began to stab the knife into Jason over and over again. With each attack the blade make his chest a greater and greater bloody mess, but the Goblin had either failed to hit his heart or was intentionally tormenting him. Jason coughed blood as he felt his consciousness slowly slip away. His final thoughts before slipping to a black void was of becoming food for a fantasy monster, seduced into entering their territory by a deranged woman.
The mob of Goblins on Jason were cackling maniacally when the one stabbing Jason’s hands were wrapped by a line of what seemed to be from a leather whip. An instant later it was pulled from his body and towards Hanshi. It dropped the dagger, gravity stabbing it into his left arm. Her leg shot up in a side kick. The combined force of her pulling and her kick landed the heel of her boot squarely in the face of the Goblin and then ripped its arms away from its body. She switched to the targets that still remained on Jason’s bodies, snapping her whip on them, shattering their spines, ripping their heads off, or whichever way she could find to kill them and get the to stop as quickly as possible. The last Goblin, the one that had attached itself to Jason’s head, she closed in on, grabbed it by its mouth, ignoring the sharpness of its teeth, and pulled it with such force that its upper head was ripped away from it’s lower jaw. She released the head and used her whip to destroy it with a single blow.
The horde of Goblins took this opportunity while Hanshi was distracted to retreat away from her back into the mines. Their numbers had been reduced by more than a quarter of their total number. Had this been a medieval village the losses that the Goblin faced would have been just within the amounts that they could reasonably expect to lose in a losing battle, but it was hardly an amount to completely devastate their community. The oldest men and the children would be able to refill their ranks in time. This would be of no comfort to the mothers, sisters, and wives of a human village, but to a Goblin village there was a strong chance that they would just go on about their lives as if nothing happened after the initial events happened. However, there was also a chance that these creatures would become a plague upon the house of any that took part in such an event. Only time would tell whether these Goblins were forgetful pests or vindictive malevolent creatures that would never quit attacking you and your kind till they or you were completely eliminated.

Magriculture
When Aurum Industries announced the first Full Immersion Virtual Reality Massive Multiplayer Online Role Playing Game (FIVRMMORPG if you're hip) Limitless Online, most people saw it as an opportunity to live out their sword and sorcery fantasies. John, however, saw it as the opening of a new and as of yet uncrowded job market. One he was willing, and eager, to exploit. Determined to make money through virtual hard work and effort, John sets his sights not on the heights of magic or the perfection of the sword, but instead upon the tilling of the soil and the sowing of seeds as he explores the wide and wonderful world of magical agriculture all from the comfort of his own bed. Disclaimer: This is, at best, a very rough draft. I have already had to do one major rewrite and several minor rewrites of entire sections of the story, and it is a virtual certainty I will have to do re-writes again. Such changes may be as small as editing a few numbers (such as going back and changing how much mana an object holds) or it may force me to re-write entire chapters (this has happened once already, and I'm really hoping it doesn't happen again, but... life). Minor re-writes will probably never be posted here. Major rewrites probably will.Anyway, what this boils down to is: If you're looking for a fully cohesive story with few to no errors and publisher level editing, this is not the story for you. If your looking for a cohesive plot that's more than "Man farms, man farms, man farms well, man maybe makes money" you're probably also in the wrong place, but I will attempt to entertain you anyway.
